I didn't ask you for a list (for the purposes of my question it doesn't matter who's on it)..... I asked you to summarise and quantify your strategically superior insight on the matter. Tellingly you declined to do so.

Not really...... Combos of Dier, Davies & Sanchez helped get us into the CL the year before last. Lenglet played 35 times last season and we got nowhere close.

Despite your proffesional prowess; I'm not hearing strategy... Just (premature) panic buying.
Harry Winks and Sissoko helped us reach a CL final in the past, time moves on, players decline

It's not just the last two days, I think the nervousness was building for a while, only now that it's become clear that the CB situation is completely up in the air people are (imo rightly) losing their shit.

No other club has a history of going an entire season without any transfers.
Having just got back from the pub I'm feeling quite relaxed about the whole situation right now. I perhaps am more relaxed about it than some by nature. I want to see those CB changes but it will happen when it happens.

They do indeed.... (However my post wasn't a vote for Dier or Sanchez)

My question about defining your strategy still stands should you want to dabble with it.

Otherwise; I think we may as well call it quits on the notion that you'd be happy going into the season with Lenglet & Max Killman and call it a minority position amongst most fans.

I'm sorry, you totally lost me here. What does Woolwich's start last season have to do with how we'll start this season?
I said

Well like I said, making the acquisitions early would have allowed them to Gel, we could have hit the ground running and rode the momentum wave like the Gooners did last season.

So what I’m saying mate is imagine if we bought a CB early and they gelled really well with Romero early doors and we started the season on fire like Woolwich did last season and we used the momentum of those early results to keep on winning like Woolwich did this season.

Is there a crayon function on here? If so I will draw you a picture

This is not an attack at all... There's nothing going on here other than robust debate. You post with your chest well and truly puffed out (especially to begin with; before you became faced with some fairly formidable counter-arguments)..... Now you object to similar?
I love a good debate, hence why I am on here. But calling bullshit because I would have been happy with Kilman and Lenglet, saying I have pissed myself because we didn’t sign players straight away. You are acting aggressively because I don’t agree with you, it’s just a bit uncalled for.

I put my hands up, some of my posts have been a bit twatish.

You and I are going to disagree on things, that’s cool I can live with that

I did not say that.

No more so than you have done, fella.

Touche & likewise.

It’s impossible for me to answer your original question because I don’t know our budget. If our budget for CB’s is £30m then Kilman is quite high on my list, top 10 for sure given that he is Prem proven.

If the budget is £100m then he is further down and I would look at blowing a much larger amount on Guehi at Palace.

My preference would have been Prem proven. I would prefer Tosin over VDV.

Most fans wanted Ndombele and Lo Celso and that was the best part of £100m down the drain

Again; I didn't ask you about who or for how much...... I'm not asking you to role-play as a scout.

It's perfectly possible to answer......

How far down the list is fitting to stoop to by week 2 of the window? #5? #10? Presumably option Z (aka #26) is 10.59 on deadline day? ... Is it linear scale? ...When should a club panic?

Strategy...... Your professional comfort zone.

[Honestly; I'm logging of shortly..... So I shan't persist any further]

Think people correlate the goals conceded last season with our CBs a bit too much.

Yes there were some stinking performances and a good chunk of goals ended up being individual faults, but I can't help but feel they shouldn't have been in those situations as often as they were. The system backing off and inviting pressure, not defending all over the pitch was just as responsible for a large chunk as the individuals.

In regards to signing replacements before the tour, sure in an ideal world I expect the club would have loved to have finalised all deals already. But to suggest that it's 100% the clubs fault is just disingenuous. Some might be fiddling over fees that we have a track record for, some might be clubs having an agreement in principal pending the signing of a replacement. We don't know for sure but dealing in absolutes for either side of the argument on every case is most likely incorrect.

Since Toby and Jan, we have a shocking record of CB signings. If we get this right, I don't care if its on deadline day. I'm in for the 2-3 year rebuild where a few weeks in summer 2023 ought not define our 2025/26 season. The ones calling for immediate SPEND THE MONEY centre halves are likely buying in to the traditional pre season hype as though we are going to blow the league away next season. We won't. We will lose a bunch of games, concede some shit goals, have periods of reliance on backup players and continue being Spurs.

Oh sorry I thought you meant your question about how far down the list Kilman is.

Honestly, most of the work should have been done before the window opened, players sounded out about do they want to move - legally using agents talking to agents in the roundabout way they do. Fees discussed with clubs.

So my wait time would be nothing at all, I wouldn’t be hanging about for opportunistic signings. If a selling club told me that they would need a week to line up their replacement then maybe I wait for that but honestly my list is exhausted day one - at that point I know which deals are viable and which are going nowhere.

Of course that could mean that you miss out on a player who suddenly becomes available at the end of the window - I think that’s preferable to waiting all window to see if that transpired before realising it won’t and panic buying Rodon

Our midfield had to play as deep as it did to protect our shit defence - CB’s and Hugo declining were the number one reason without a shadow of a doubt.

If we spent the money on Guehi and Tosin whilst keeping Kane I am confident we would finish in the CL spots

Problem is this is our 7th window of trying to sign CBs. How has the recruitment been so bad that since we signed Verthongen in 2012 and Alderweireld in 2015 we have managed to sign one better than average CB Romero in 2021. That is 6 years between Alderweireld and Romero for a right sided cb. Left sided cb’s we have not signed a decent one in 11 years.
