Rice is in the elite group of DMs in the world.
He’s certainly in a bracket of players that isn’t realistic to expect Levy and ENIC to sign.

They could but never would
I rate Rice. Clearly the best English DM in the Prem.
Really thought he was going to Chelsea or United. Timing is everything. The year West Ham make him available and Chelsea are in flux and can’t offer European football. I guess his preference is to stay in London.
Yeah, it’s disappointing that we’re not in the race for Rice-like players, although, like Chelsea, it was never going to happen for us this year.
the Levy OUT voices will come back fast and louder
They’ll never go away. There is a part of a fan base that won’t be happy until we are sold to a Middle Eastern sovereign wealth fund (possibly via an intermediary). If it can happen to Man City and Newcastle them we demand it too. Joan and his lick-spittles were positively salivating at the chance to become PSG Nord with bent Qatari money.

Bill, he has a blue check mark. Obviously legit.

It's the VdV one which is totally odd. He came over to London with his father and agent, they met with Spurs, by all accounts everything was agreed, and since then it's all gone silent. I would guess that VdV is the one Ange really wants but someone at the club is pushing for Tapsoba and this is what is causing the deadlock. Comical.

And Wolfsburg already have VdV's replacement

Former Celtic stopper Moritz Jenz has smoothed the way for Wolfsburg’s Micky van de Ven to join Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham revolution.

Jenz, who starred on loan for Postecoglou’s Hoops side last term, joined Wolfsburg for £6.8million from FC Lorient three weeks ago. And that has allowed the Bundesliga club to cash in on their highly rated Dutch centre-back for £30million. Jenz was brought in at Parkhead last summer to provide cover for Carl Starfelt and was a regular early in the campaign. But the Swede’s return from injury forced him out of the side and the stopper cut his time at Parkhead short in January to seal another loan move to German side Schalke.

The 24-year-old was rated as one of the best defenders in the second half of the Bundesliga season, despite Schalke’s relegation. And Wolfsburg snapped up Jenz in June, knowing that van de Ven – dubbed the next Virgil van Dijk - is keen on a big move to England’s top flight.

His switch to Tottenham still hasn’t been finalised but the 22-year-old defender is expected to become Postecoglou’s second signing at his new club after Leicester playmaker James Maddison. Wolfsburg seem to think the transfer will go through as they still haven’t given a shirt number to Jenz

It has been speculated that’s because the former Hoops loanee could land the No.5 jersey that belongs to van de Ven. Both Jenz and fellow defensive recruit Cedric Zesiger still don’t have a number and it has been claimed that’s because Wolfsburg don’t want young fans splashing out on a replica shirt with an incorrect shirt number.

Jenz isn’t the first player to have traded the Hoops for the green and white of Wolfsburg as Brian O’Neil spent two-and-a-half seasons with the German club from 1998-2000
Wolfsburg are prob just dragging it out to get an extra few million. it's understandble.

I'm confident VDV will happen, then Tosin,

Tapsoba unlikely imo.

Why do they have to be Saudi owners?

FSG won everything at Liverpool.

The only that is hard to deny is that British owners can’t win the premier league anymore

I was only ever disputing this notion of "top"....... (To me you'd be talking top 10 in the world, top 15, 20 maybe at a push.)

.......And the notion that any "top" player would be particularly enamored by our current position.

Forget Levy; bid what you like; tell me, which "top" CBs would come here for what we have on our plate this season?
You pay players, they come.

Unless they have a better offer.

We have always and always will sign players that fit our budget. CL football can help to add a cherry on top but money makes it all go round

Honestly, I just want us to sign a CB purely so people will chill the fuck out.

They won't, after the initial furore of signing them dies down people will turn their angst to getting rid of the deadwood, give it 4-5 days before people start moaning at the fact that Lo Celso and Sanchez are still here and we're not acting like a big club by ripping up their contracts...

Can you show me an actual quote from Ange?

And no, it’s not your club nor mine. We may not like the reality of that but it’s a fact.
You are very wrong about this. It isn't Levy and Lewis's club anymore than anyone else. Knowing the cost of something does not mean you know its value. The team is a history and legacy that extend beyond simple ownership. They are at best it's current custodians. I have even heard Levy himself acknowledge this.

Given the conversation at hand, that's a hollow cliche, mate.... We both know that the world's best CB (whoever that is considered to be right now?) isn't leaving their current club to come to Spurs this season.

We have always and always will sign players that fit our budget. CL football can help to add a cherry on top but money makes it all go round

Relax your mind and free yourself of all the Levy-ism and entertain my question as asked.......

Be real...... Name me a "top" CB that would come here on the spec of Spurs 2023.

They don’t have to be Saudi. The anti-ENIC crew were salivating for Qatari money. Saudi <> Qatar. Most of the oil producing states have multiple national investment funds.

FSG don’t put in their own money. They start with a 100-150m advantage over us each year because Liverpool have greater brand recognition and a much higher commercial revenue. They need to put in far less to compete with sports washed clubs. Even then, there is a huge FSG Out movement because they operate on a self-sustainable model.

It’s not that British owners can’t win the EPL anymore. It’s more that they’re not rich enough to buy clubs that generate enough revenue to win the EPL. A subtle difference but, in practice, it amounts to the same thing.

In any practical sense we are owned by ENIC......

I'd love for this to be like the Bundesliga, but it isn't.......

I have even heard Levy himself acknowledge this.

Pure platitude on his part....... Where'd all the cynicism suddenly disappear to?
