Agree look at last season, defence was a shambles, if not for Kane we would have been lower half of the table.
Too many, are caught up in this attacking football, being all exciting to watch, but without the right people in place it all falls apart.
I can see it falling apart quite quickly, there is less than a month to go before the first game, and yet as the recent friendly showed nothing has improved on the defensive front.
It was the stats for the last ten games that were a concern. Especially away from home.

I’m not a doom monger at all, I just think it’s unfair to assume that Ange is going to miraculously turn things around by telling the players to play 30 yards further up the pitch.

We need CBs.

So if they discriminate which rumours to rubbish, the ones that Ali G writes about and they don’t rubbish them, they are happy to let them run…
Ie Bastoni, Tapsoba, Skriniar etc etc
You're assuming they're using Ali G as a mouthpiece, which is bordering on conspiracy theory territory. He's just a journo that doesn't provide any more insightful information than the next semi-respectable journo.

It will all turn to shit if we don't.

Hahaha there it is, not winning argument, bring out the conspiracy theorist accusations 😂😅😂

Where did I assume they use him as a mouth piece?

He’s a beat journalist that only covers Spurs and uses a policy of only writing stuff when he’s got 2 sources saying it. People in the club are absolutely some of his sources.

Exactly the same as the Athletic guys that beat write on Spurs.

They aren’t club mouthpieces but they are absolutely useful outlets for the club to get information out.

It’s not a conspiracy theory, it’s the way things work.

Fair enough.

What have we done to correct that exception though? Is our defence any better?
Maybe not, but our midfield is playing more to their potential, which could lead to defensive improvements, albeit not the breakthrough ones we would want. And a number of players who underperformed the past few seasons seem to have picked up their game. That may result in 10 fewer goals allowed and 10 more scored, which in itself would be an improvement. Not title challenging stuff, but not midtable either.

That's my gut feeling, anyway, for what it's worth.

It's not worth anything.

i feel incredibly comforted

Blackburn fans are still ventilating on their fans forums over Ashley Phillips.

In essence when Phillips signed his first pro contract 12 months ago, his agent insisted that there was a 'release' clause inserted in the player contract. Spurs have activated the release clause with their bid and Blackburn owners are angry claiming he 'release' clause is confidential so Spurs shouldn't have known about it and want more money.

If true, this deal will get done as once they calm down the Blackburn owners will find they don't have much of a leg to stand on.

Player is keen on the move, as demonstrated by his agreeing to do a medical. The leaked fee of £3m for a player who has made 8 Championship appearances playing 449 mins isn't unreasonable - although I suspect Blackburn would want some 'add ons' triggered by future performances, but I doubt the release clause will be very generous on these.

He plays for E u19's - a year up, so could be a very good long term acquisition - but obviously he's not going to start at Spurs and likely he'd be loaned out ?

Aha, so you think we've been waiting all this time for Tosin and now it will happen because Fulham now have their replacements. Interesting.

Not sure tbh. The Tosin talk has gone very quiet, just like for Tapsoba and VdV. Now we are being linked with Bremer and Anderson instead.

It's all a bit messy.
Only if you assume that every report and tweet is on the money.

Do you know when the squad are back from the tour? I fully expect to see at least one announcement within a week of them returning.

Anything else is asking for trouble.

If Bissouma stays fit and returns to the form he was in at Brighton, he might make a big difference to our midfield shielding our centre backs (whoever they are) ..... and that might mean we concede maybe 10 less goals next season.

We played low-block football with 3 centre backs and 2 more defensively inclined midfielders all of last season but now we're going all out attack with 2 centre backs we will concede 10 less goals because of Bissouma?

I mean, maybe. But it doesn't sound all that convincing.

How do you stop Sanchez from just falling over for no reason or Dier refusing to fucking tackle?

Is everyone so thoroughly mindfucked by the state of our transfer business over the years that they now try to talk themselves into accepting this bullshit?

Tbh it looks like the tour and Kane deal have paused all transfer activity.

Poor Daniel keeps getting cut off whilst trying to buy a centre back, the woman wearing glasses is a closet Gooner clearly. It’s like the Fax machine with Moutinho , if technology ever improves there will be no stopping Danny boy

I think the main difference will be that we will have more of the ball and should be winning it higher up the pitch. In theory, it should reduce the amount of pressure on the defence and expose them less to the individual mistakes we saw when we invited pressure on.

Ultimately though, the current players we have aren't really suited to high line play, as they don't have the required recovery pace.

Which is why at least 2 pacey CB's are a necessity rather than a 'nice to have.'

Romero is quick for a CB.

He's the only one that could play a high line

It's very odd. I've even seen people suggest we won't really miss Kane because we'll play such dazzling attacking football that we will score goals for fun.

Quite how we do that in a single season and also concede less goals I don't know. I get that people think Ange is good, but they appear to be building him up as some sort of magician. Very good football managers still need the right players, even Pep had a wobbly first season at City with a much better squad.
