What do you believe will happen?
I think maybe they get a young kid in like VDV or a cheaper option like Tosin.
I think most of rate Tosin as a depth choice.
Likewise most rate VDV as a project.
Neither of them are top CB targets. Tapsoba at 24 is closer to fitting that bill but Base wanted Levy to drop the budget on Maddison, so he did.

I do like that Levy hasn’t even attempted to hide his true colors from Ange this summer and has already put him thru the ringer of Spurs manager pains immediately.
Since the Maddison feel-good signing Levy has
-shifted exactly one piece of deadwood
-haggled needlessly and fruitlessly scuppering two potential outs
-signed Solomon for “free” that required a last minute friendly to pull off is still unresolved with a possible tribunal or court case over a fee
-has made zero announcement or clarification on who is selecting transfer targets, with no new DOF (is Paratici involved, is he not, how involved can he be, and if he is. why the fuck is a man literally banned from the sport advising us, etc)
-has directly ignored Ange’s request of a CB before the preseason Tour, again dilly-dallying on VdV/Tapsoba/Tosin and looking a jumbled mess in terms of prioritizing targets
-and then finally the Kane thing. Which tbf isn’t all on Levy, but is a massive distraction and show-stopping domino in the first summer.
Levy has shown the worst of his management this summer and has basically ruined any good faith hope Ange may have had in him already.
While it’s pathetic behavior as usual from him, it’s oddly respectable - like pulling your cock out on the first date - as if to say, there’s no sleight of hand or hiding true colors here, I won’t put up any pretenses, here I am in all of my disgusting glory.

Maybe 50-60m
Anything up to 70m is very normal for top CB targets.
Clubs were paying that before we had the highest rise in inflation in our lifetimes.
If we are saying transfer fee increases are loosely correlated with increased in broadcast rights and ticket prices, 60-70m is absolutely going rate for a top CB target.

I think that's alot of money for Tapsoba, who's no where near being elite right now.
55m would probably be the max I'd be offering. With a load of add ons dependent on European football, Champions League qualifications etc.
I would still personally be happy with Tosin and Van de Ven. But I do also believe that Tapsoba is further along in his development than VDV is.
Then again, I think the Bayer director is saying what a director would. If we offered the 55m, they'd accept it. We know they would.

I don't disagree with how you break those 3 down; but who are your 2 "top" CB targets then?

If a prem club that wants elite talent IDs a player as elite talent then they can expect to pay elite prices.
Was the same thing that made Levy piss his pants on Bastoni and Skriniar. If you need an elite CB, identify one and go get them.
Why does it matter what my top CB targets are?
PEH, for one. Davinson (although there may be movement on that now). Perisic. Reguilon. Ndombele. I don’t know if you actually follow the club but we have the most bloated fucking squad in club history it’s absolutely ridiculous.

And it isn’t a negative, it’s a good signing, but my point is that even a success like this still feels quite dodgy and is still tinged in uncertainty and questioning in true Levy fashion.
It is on Levy that he wants to leave though, the situation with Kane is fractured going back to 2021 because of DL’s incompetence. And as we all know it’s going to drag on and on.

Obviously I don't follow other clubs transfers as closely as I do for Spurs, but it does seem that every in or out is incredibly hard work.
