Sissoko is almost exactly like Hojberg imo.

Can't say either is a flop.

Neither of them are Spurs CMs and both weren't well scouted for this club.

But both have been effective performers. Sissoko was in a team that got to the CL final ...

I saw some statistics that really made me question my eyes. From the 2019-2020 season through last season, here are some Hojbjerg stats:

1. Most recoveries in the entire PL
2. Second most successful passes in the entire PL

In other words, he is among the best at taking the ball from the opposition and circulating the ball to his teammates.

At heart, he is a defensive midfielder that also has good passing abilities.

Some people want him to also be press resistant (of course!), but there aren’t too many players in the world that are top at recovering the ball, top at passing the ball, and top at being press resistant.

The top press resistant players that I can think of at the top of my head (Frankie de Jong, Veratti) are not as good at recovering the ball. They tend to be deep lying playmakers (#6s).

Were those per 90 stats?

Hojberg's best ability is availability. He probably played a lot more minutes than most players so if those stats are volume stats, it makes sense.

In truth, press resistance is the most important skill for #6 in the prem. You can make up the ball recoveries via a team system and pressing forwards.

I can see it now:
Lenglet
Cameron Carter Vickers
Spunk £50m of Kane money on Connor Gallagher who we don’t want or need

Airfixx Airfixx , Get in! Get in! , LeParisien LeParisien

And when that doesn’t happen you’ll be back here saying « I was a toxic, pessimistic bore and I was wrong ».

Neither were we when we were in their position.

Neither were we what?

Ask your average barcode about their Keegan years, challenging Fergie etc, and it's all gushing pride......

I'm not suggesting go full blinkered like they or Dippers are prone to doing, but like I said in my OG post "Never" remembering it "with anything but regret" is a damn shame.

You really think any arse will be satisfied if they end up empty handed from this cycle and squad?

It will be a catastrophic failure.

Satisfied? Nope.

"Never" remember it "with anything but regret" is a far more extreme take-away though.

Gotta be honest I don't see this current Arse crop as some mega, generational group. Interesting season ahead.

Not saying you’re wrong but they bought mendy and 1 he’s shit and 2 no where near the prestige of loris

(BC mentioned maybe loris has knocked an offer back already)

You have to wonder if these players are just fine seeing out their contract here or have terrible agents. Maybe both?

Players that should be moving on....
Hugo
Perisic
Sanchez
PEH
Rodon
Tanganga

Maybes
N'Dombele
Reguillon
Lo Celso
Gil

Should bes
Dier
Davies

Nothing concrete about any of them. Closest we got is Spurs accepting a bid for Sanchez from Moscow.

Perisic is still useful, we shouldn't move him on before buying another winger.
