Oh come off it, we’ve talked about this before multiple times haven’t we?

That goal right there is emblematic of his flaws as a defender. It’s not a mistake it’s a trend, a defining characteristic. He stands off and stands off. I’ve written at length about this.

Right here I have 5 glaring, undeniably poor errors directly leading to a goal. Even as bad as Dier was this year, you’d be hard pressed to find 5 mistakes of his that look as bad as this
Transfers - Summer Transfer Thread 2023!

I bloody know he has a lot of potential but when you’re spunking £40m you aren’t just buying potential. He is not good enough at the moment.
isnt he meant to be absolutely rapid? if we are playing high up that pace will be extremely important.

but yea defenders that are trigger shy at engaging is not ideal. maybe ange can stick a firework up his arse and coach it into him?

Exactly.......

We should have done the same with Spence too.

Buying young and letting them stay at their former club to grow further until they're seemed a bit more prepared isn't like dragging some teenager from Argentina and farming them out to stockport for a year and being shy of 'taking a chance on youth'.

The' no other clubs use the loan system' sentiment is just an extra layer of BS attempting to prop up an already weak argument.

Veliz could very easily end up going on loan to a European club in January and even another club next season but still end up an unbelievable signing for 15m

Saying that, by the looks of the kids passion and aggression, he's expecting to be our starting #9 tomorrow...

I'll be honest, I don't really get the thinking behind Veliz if he's going on loan because it means we need to sign another forward for this season if Kane goes.

Well why not put him out on loan and get Veliz in on the bench and actually use him as a substitute? If Scarlett is better than Veliz then why are we buying him?
I'd love to have Velliz in on day one. But if Rosario want him until January, I don't see that as a huge issue, which is why we are having this discussion to begin with.

The way our current squad will be improved is by playing players like Udogie and Sarr; not by trying to sign someone older and more established to play their position(s).
They will improve the squad this year, but not last year when we signed them. That's my point, we need to sign younger players that can play NOW and not in two years.

I have no problems buying young talent to develop as long as we are also buying talent to play now.

It was still the more logical deal to do than Rodon?

Not especially......

Tried and tested at Championship (a higher level of football) & international level

vs

China and being a hulk of an individual surrounded by diminiatively statured men.

Even from Levy’s MO? Since when would anyone’s comments trouble Daniel? The club really exploited the vast Welsh market with Joe Rodon. I imagine outside of his family and friends, the club shop probably sold under a thousand shirts and less tickets to games to watch him play (when he’s played)
Commercially KMJ was always the better option than Joe Rodon. At the time, Skriniar would have been a starter rather than a punt.

TBH people making arguments against Levy on a commerical level is the hight of hypocricy given that he's typically criticised for being too commercially minded.

Shirt sales FC
NFL stadium
Beyonce FC
......And all that wank.

1. When he was initially linked he was roundly ridiculed as being a merch-signing cheapo punt...... Unspurprisingly; by at least one hypocrite that is now liking all your posts on the subject.

2. Dembele barely kicked a ball for 6 months after leaving.

These are 2 very gratuitous complaints.
Disagree.
He was very much a punt who should have been brought in alongside someone like Skriniar. Not instead of. He was better all round proposition than Joe Rodon - even down to his marketing potential.
I think you’re a little too protective over club decisions. They are and have been rank for too long.

As for Dembele, I’d have wheeled out a half fit Dembele for a CL final over a half fit Kane or a fully fit Sissoko.

Edit- I don’t post for likes. I post what I think when I have time & inclination.

So as I understand it from the consensus on here, £40 milion was way, way too much for Raya so we bought Vicario for less. Based on two halves of pre-season friendlies, we shouldn't have bought Vicario but rather forked out on Raya. Then we were in for Van der Ven. As we didn't conclude that deal in a day or so, we weren't showing any ambition. Now it looks like we're increasing our offer it suddenly becomes way, way too much.

We also got what looks like a promising winger on a free, more or less. This shows that we're cheapskates.

Then we went in for a young CB promise. Our bid to pay his buy out clause was rejected and it now seems that we'll get him for less. Again, we're cheapskates.

We never, ever plan for the future. And yet when we move swiftly for an exciting 19-year-old striker it's still shit because Rosario may get to keep him till January.

Is that about right?
