I don’t think you can really compare both situations. Nor does it really prove that Conte wasn’t doing exactly that.Maybe people can admit they were wrong when they said that Conte wasn't picking him as a way of sticking two fingers up at the board ?
For one Conte was crying out for attacking wing backs, and while very raw Spence was just that. It’s just that Conte had a bee in his bonnet and refused to give him game time.
Whereas now he’s got two players ahead of him, one who’s a better defender, and the other a better attacker. The squad is a bloated mess and we don’t really need 3 RBs

Lol...this is how Brexit happen to us. No mate everything is not binary. And two things can be true. The totally silly addition of Porro (Conte vanity) done for Spence. You have make the 45 million purchase work and cut one its pretty simple. But the Porro money could have gone on a better CB instead and this could cost us big time still....thanks Tony!!

Spence was never going to get used this season, we have 3 players who play in that position, the club invested heavily on Porro who is better and more moldable and Emerson who is probably the best option to play Ange's FB role right now.
2 things can be true here:
I actually blame the club for buying him for Conte as he was never committed to a long term vision but then you can say the same about any player we bought for him can't you? But that's what happens when you have a manager who is here for a short term, some players just aren't going to fit his plans.
I do put equal blame on Conte for not actually playing him, like not even giving him a chance in the Cup matches is now way to treat a young player. The problem was that he continued to play Emerson who was shite for most of the season which killed his confidence so I'm not surprised that he's not the same player that he was a year ago.
I feel sorry for him, club politics played a massive part in all of this - a complete shit show all round.

Were the people who said Spence was better than Porro using a crystal ball to look into the future? Because Spence was on loan in France by the time Porro came in …
I think people a lot of folks thought he was better than Matt Doherty - which may well be true since we terminated his contract and let him go to A Madrid on a free - who also decided not to keep him around this summer. Currently, Doherty is a back up at relegation fodder Wolves.
Spence got the same treatment most of our young players - non favorites got from Conte. Richy is the only player that called Conte out but alot of players were getting screwed by the miserable old bastard.
Should Spence have gotten a chance to play over Doherty? I guess we’ll see how he does at his next club … Would have been nice to see him get some real game time for us to be properly evaluated but now, he’s not as good as Emerson and Porro and we have a bloated squad so he’s off.

I could actually understand the Jose appointment but the Conte thing was desperate, he was desperate and so were we, that Summer should have just signaled the rebuild.
He was signed on the advice of the DoF/scouting department.
Conte, literally, sanctioned the deal.

Levy acted on that and completed the deal.
The bottom line is that Spence has been judged as not good enough.
Conte not playing him because of a fit of pique (allegedly) does not disprove that.
Honestly, the amount of mental gymnastics going on her by posters who are unable to accept that they were wrong in their assessment of a player is of the charts.
In hindsight it’s glaringly obvious that is what we should have done. I understood the Jose hire. I didn’t want Conte in lieu of the rebuild but I also took it possibly as a signal that Levy realized his previous mistakes and was going to unleash our budget and Conte to make a real run at winning something.
In the end both hires were arguably some of the most cynical decisions of his yet. Both were attempts at squeezing as much juice out of the lemon as possible because a rebuild is just too expensive.
He definitely could, he shut down Mbappe and Martinelli, don't think any lower table club would be turning their noses up at him.
You did it again. The only sensible thing is your use of the word allegedly. It neither (as you say) disproves nor proves anything. We brought a guy for a coach who needed development said coach wanted no part of this. Can't you see that both things can be true. For example he could have done the same to Bale it would not have proved Bale was no good just not what he wanted. Is it the internet that has caused this desperate need in posters to have such empty binary narratives. It's foolish.
