So you want Kane to stay so we can qualify for the Europa (~£25M) and win a LC (<£1M).

You're turning down £100M so you can make less than £26M and have to compete with Kane playing for a direct competitor, that he joined for free, from 2024/25 on.

:mourshock:
How much money do you think Harry makes us in a season? Shirt sales, sponsors, tickets, goodwill?

I bet you we get that £100m back in like 2 seasons with Harry in the team.

I think don't that comes into it.... We already showed we could do that vs City 2 years ago.

We also didn't budge when the rest of the world was trying to sell Poch's team (and Poch) himself every trf window.

As has been said before; EPL teams can afford to say "no" these days if they want to.

Risk is everywhere.... Ndombele was a risk......... Meanwhile Richarlison wasn't percieved to be particularly risky 12 months ago (hence we paid a high evaluation)............ Players (in this context; assets) risk career ending injury every time they put their boots on.
The €100m was a certainty. That’s the point.

But Kane scoring goals is about as certain as gets

I don't think like that, at all. A LC doesn't prove we're "on the rise", wouldn't give anyone a reason to believe we're closer to overturning the growing City monopoly.

No but a trophy and a return to the CL would suggest we're back on track.

It probably makes Harry feel even more comfortable leaving - he did it, he won us a "trophy", likely the only "trophy" we can realistically expect to compete for. Why the fuck would he sign on just to fall back to earth? Especially when the Saudis are offering him a different Rolls for each day of the week and enough money to go full Scrooge McDuck.

Wait.... We're talking about Saudis all of a sudden????

The LC is piss, but the Saudi league is worth winning?

.......Surely you acknowledge a potential move for Kane would be about silverwear; not early retirement in a poxy desert????

I guess I was wrong, I have no clue how the CL works anymore now that UEFA have truly fucked it up.

I don't consider the LC an actual trophy, it shouldn't exist.

Yes, a boost from the PL money is nice.

Harry isn't signing a new deal. Even if he thinks he might consider it right now, it's because he hasn't had the chance to see the river of gold the Saudis will slap down in front of him come January when they can start negotiations. Which will become a massive distraction in the 2nd half of the season and probably end up torpedoing any CL qualification.

I don't think its a given H won't sign a new deal.

If I were Levy I'd encourage him to sign a new one year deal - add 100% to his wages for 23/24 and a buy out clause for say £80m to be exercised from 15 May 2024 to 15 July 2024.

That ensures Harry gets an extra £10m for next season (more than his current contract pays) but we get a buy out at the end so we can plan for 25/26

That does NOT stop him from negotiating in January - but tbh, he'd be a fool to sign a contract than. Plenty of time to do it next summer. Also allows him a year to see if Ange football is for him or not and allows us to buy a couple more players this summer to help.

If he stays and we get in an extra CB after Van der Ven plus maybe one other player I'd fancy our chances to get 3rd through to 5th place in PL. Sure its a gamble, but its a sensible gamble

The €100m was a certainty. That’s the point.

And indeed it is our stake in this gamble........... I understand how this all works mate.

The fact that I've consistently used the word "gamble" acknowledges as much.

But Kane scoring goals is about as certain as gets

Goals, fun, increased chance of CL, more chance of domestic cup success, higher league finish, more eyes on the club., a bit more dosh via sponsorships etc.

Only to happy to see us roll that dice if that's what comes to pass.

stolen from sc...

From Prof on COYS about 15 minutes before the bid being rejected hitting the news. The shorter contract is what I reckon will happen and suggested it a few weeks ago as the best move for everyone.

A mixture of info from Gawain and a new source.

We have put two contract options in front of Harry and his reps.
A long term incentive laden contract to remove the uncertainty for us and for him. Barring significant injury he’d break Shearer’s record and pretty much retire as a Spurs player.
A mid-range contract with buyout clause that would put us in a similar position next summer as we are this summer. This option would give us at least another year of Harry, and give him time to decide whether he’s buying in to our future under Ange, as well as setting a minimum sale price.

No idea if he’ll negotiate a bit and then sign one of them, sign neither and leave on a free next summer, or be sold before this window closes. DL wants a decision asap so Spurs know how much they’ll have to spend and which positions they’ll need to focus on for the remainder of the window.

This week provides much for both HK and DL to ponder.

The mid-range contract makes zero sense though, at least for Kane. He would basically eliminate any leverage he currently has. Sure he'd get a bump in pay but enough to offset a potential huge signing on bonus as a free agent and the excessive wages that other clubs would offer to bring him on board? He can evaluate Ange and the club with or without a new contract with the club. The greatest leverage that he has is that the sand is running out, and he's not going to spoil that so the club can recoup something for him even if its a minimal amount.

There are only two realistic options if we don't sell him by the Brentford game; he leaves on a free next year or he signs a massive new contract.

I'm just citing the guaranteed income, that's all.... Of course additional income furthers my point though.

All good. :)

But all the additional income shows the gamble is :

1 Take circa £90m now (that's all BM are offering) probably paid over 5 years

or

2 Try to get Harry to commit to a higher wages new one year contract next season (last year of his current contract) but a buy out of say £80m (ie a little less than BM offer) which gives us a boost next summer if Kane goes then

That new one year contract, plus one or two extra players this summer gives us a decent chance of getting CL next summer (paying say £60m/£70m in 24/25) plus getting a buy out on Kane's contract and a better squad to go forward.

Win win, not to sell, very little risk for Harry or us

The TV is part of the CL payment and is dependent upon the club's UEFA coefficient (ours will be shit in 24/25 because the CL final year has rolled off).

We'll definitely make money on the CL I we qualified, but it'll be closer to the £50-60M range including matchday receipts (net from each match after factoring in costs isn't as high as you think).

Especially so because we'd be replacing Kane not with £100M fee, but with whatever transfer funds ENIC provide (which we already know won't be £100M). We'll not be getting beyond the group stage, in all likelihood.
Ok cool. It’s a 60M gamble worth taking then. How many games are played in next season bigger league format? We must net £3M per addtl CL game (ST’s need to pay) after expenses

The Brennan Jonhson stuff us weird!

We already have Kane, Son, Richrlison, Soloman, Kulusevski, Veliz AND Perisic for those front 3 positions.

one game a week.

Honestly, there's no room for him - all for offloading Rodon and Spence to Forest.

That's not the gamble....... That's you proposing a resolution.

However, I'm happy to take the "gamble" as it already stands so you've no need to sell it to me on fresh terms. :)
