No, it was me, having a sarcastic dig at him

Son always struggle against deep blocks - even in 21/22 season when he was at his best I remember games like watford away where he was completely useless (except that delivery from free kick for a goal). So i give him benefit of doubt today - but i hope that he either improves or Ange drops him without hesistation. We cannot drag him through The games like Conte did last year.
im afraid that him being made captain will make dropping him much more difficult.

Yeah, thats my slight concern as well - but based on everything it would be harsh on him to give armband to someone else… on the other hand - one of Romero and Madders should be always on the pitch which is good, you hook Son - but other leaders are still there. Imagine having Dier and Davies as VC…

This game didn't fill me with confidence that he can play as a winger in this system, but I would imagine that he was appointed as captain because Ange saw a role for him in the team.

Also it is Brentford, the best deep block/counter-attacking team in the league. Most teams will struggle against them.

agree cant judge our attack too much based on yesterday. Majority of the league is going to struggle there.
However boring, their deep block defence of 6, and the organization that went with it to cut off all space out wide and be compact in the middle is what Conte dreamed of

Long term I think he needs to play as the CF. He doesn’t have the lightening pace anymore to be a winger in this system I fear.

Obviously that would mean we need another attacker who can play wide.

Yeah, a lot of people have been bitching about Conte since yesterday because of how well Bissouma was, but seeing Brentford's performance has actually made me respect him a bit more.

I do think he's a good manager still, the problems last season were mainly due to external factors. Also the fact that he's emotionally unstable which is the main reason why no one has hired him.

Didn't fit in Conte's system and now Ange's system. Maybe its because he doesn't know how to take on defenders and opts for the backpass 99% of the time. Don't know what system you'd be any good for as a winger if you can't dribble past your defender on the wings.

he can only play as a CF if the play is going through the middle. cant be a striker in a system that likes to use width as the opposition box is naturally going to get congested due to us going wide a lot. hes ducking out of headers so him being striker for us is going to be absolutely useless when a winger has the ball, he might as well not be there.

Don’t need to be good at headers in Ange’s system - Kyogo, who’s 5 ft 7, won the SPFL golden boot last season as Ange’s No 9. Kyogo has very limited jumping reach/heading ability. Not a physical player.

Otherwise, not sure how similar the two players are - both seem quick (though Son is clearly starting to lose his pace) and clinical- so may be worth giving Son a chance at CF. If not, time to put Son on the transfer list cause he can’t play as a winger in Ange’s system.

what use would son of been yesterday when the majority of the time he would of been in the box surrounded by defenders waiting for the ball to come in from wide? does this kyogo also bottle challenges and duck out of the way of the ball if its coming for his head?

At 5’7 with no jumping reach most aerial crosses go over Kyogo’s head without having to duck.

You’re probably right that Son wouldn’t have done better than Richy - who also looked pretty useless yesterday.

We need to use the Kane money to get a new CF as our current options don’t appear to be good enough - Son is past it and Richy has never had it.

Well the main use is that he wouldn't be on the left wing, allowing Perisic to start and actually create something.

never even seen kyogo but i bet he doesnt avoid 50-50s. you cant have a striker in this system whos a wuss. it aint going to work at all hes going to be in 50-50s whether he likes it or not. and son will actively try and avoid it. it wont work and will end up being toxic

but perisic creates something for the striker, usually with a ball floated in perfect for them to attack with their head. son aint doing that is he lol. so it will be useless having perisic out there if son is the striker hes aiming for.

sons not even going to want cutbacks if he knows hes going to get clattered in the process.

So did a little digging.

Kyogo is less than 140 pounds - He’s not getting stuck into anything. Guy is getting bullied by skinny ass Neymar - who at 150 pounds is a relative physical beast.

Based on second half of video below, Kyogo’s job was sit on the shoulder of central defenders and try to make runs in behind. Something Son was able to do a couple years ago - whether he can do it now? Probably not - and not Richy’s strength either. We need reinforcements. Orban sounds like he could be a good fit.
