Which is precisely why he is not really captain material where strength of character is needed to influence the team

Make it or military: Incredible reason star couldn't watch this penalty

Tottenham Hotspur star Son Heung-Min is currently in Indonesia playing to save his footballing career.

The Premier League star is facing an extended period of mandatory military service if South Korea fail to do anything but win the Asian Games.

That’s why the 26-year-old couldn’t even watch as his teammate stepped up to convert a penalty in extra-time, which would ultimately send his nation through to the semi-finals.

One step closer to the ultimate goal.

Does the reason why change anything. ? I thought players should be alert to a rebound save from a pen and follow up. Unless its a pen shoot out ?
Didn't Son end up doing his military service anyway ?

Yeah, context.

Son was going to take the pen. He didn't shirk his job.

Son helped South Korea reach the Asian Games semi-finals as the defending champions beat Uzbekistan 4-3 in an extra-time cliffhanger on Monday.

The World Cup star, produced a pair of smart assists for hat-trick hero Hwang Ui-jo before a late Hwang Hee-chan penalty sent the Koreans through.

While Spurs prepared to visit Manchester United in the Premier League some 7,000 miles away, Son was the driving force as the Koreans advanced to face Vietnam in the last four.

The Korea captain revealed that he was supposed to take the penalty kick but that substitute Hwang Hee-chan had demanded to take it — and Son couldn’t bear to watch.

“Hee-chan said he wanted it and was confident,” he told reporters. “I told him to take the kick. I didn’t see where he put the penalty but I’m proud of him.”

are you meant to have proved him wrong here? so son couldnt watch because the stakes are high?? if the stakes wasnt so high he would have strong leadership qualities, but turn them up a bit and he cant bare to watch! lets just hope the stakes are never too high to melt him then hey?

the irony is hes melted at the thought of doing military service. that armband is meant to be on the man leading his team mates into war every week!

i wouldnt expect any different from someone who ducks out the way of headers and bottles any physical duals

He had taken a risk in giving his team mate the pen. He was the Captain. The call ended up being the correct one. A snap shot taken at that moment shows his emotion, not that he he didnt want to take the pen as was suggested.

Brentford away is a hard game and the kind of game we struggle all along the last season. I see an improvement in general gameplay, but our strikes failed again in a game that's hard to score goals, so no big deal. Let's wait to see how we perform against more open teams like United and hope for improvementes to break team that park the bus like Brentford.
