I am trying my best not to get my hopes up here, this feels like Rennes offering a 'pay up or fuck off' signal to City imo. But if we could somehow swap Ndombele for Doku that would be absolute magic.

While I'm at it, I hope the Fati stuff is at least being looked at. It also seems unrealistic and he has his own set of injury issues, but we NEED a first team quality winger. absolute must this window imo.
Lo Celso,for Fati

Fucking hell, man....... Stop it. Just accept that words have meanings:

Fab is not "officially banned from the sport".
Fab is not a "criminal"
Fab is not in prison.
He is banned from doing his job though. And FIFA and Italian FA deems him a fraudster, so he is a fraudster and a liar in my eyes.

Obviously he’s not in prison or under federal investigation so criminal is inaccurate.

All fair points and if we were in Europe I would agree with you, but the fact is we aren't and there just aren't enough games for a 3 CB rotation. I don't think that does anyone any good.

I don't view it as Eze or Maddison. I view it Maddison next to Eze. Both Maddison and Eze have experience playing a deeper role. If Emerson is going to be our RB, we need more from our CM alongside Maddison. Both Skipp and Sarr haven't shown they have the attacking capabilities yet. I think it would be unfair to think Bentancur comes back in and hits the ground running straight away and even him, outside of last year, doesn't have a history of contributing offensively.

We also don't have anyone to backup Maddison. Lo Celso had a nice preseason but certainly you can't put too much stock in him and I still think we'd sell for the right price.

Fair enough i see your point, for me it would leave our midfield too light in terms of strength and Def qualities... anyway we shall see.

It's not bogus- let me explain.

Net spend over the past 5 years as a way of comparing clubs can be flawed, because net spend in previous years could influence the value. But the extent to which it is a flaw depends on the the discrepancy in the previous years.

So for example if: Club A and Club B had similar net spend from 2018-2023, but Club A had net spend of 200m more than Club B from 2013-2018; looking at the net spend between just 2018-2023 as a comparator would be very flawed.
But if Clubs A and B had similar net spend from 2013-2018; looking at 2018-2023 in would not be as flawed.

tldr Net spend is not always a very flawed measure- our low net spend from 2013-2018 made it majorly so for the 2018-2023 comparisons. That doesn't really apply to my point here, comparing our net spend in this window to Woolwich's.

Try looking at the players brought in between 2016 - 20 and 21-now

Difference is that probably one or two players who were useful in first team for more than one season came in each season between 2016 - 20, and in last 3 seasons 2021/22, 22/23 and 23/24 (this window) we have got in 5 or 6 solid first team players.

Much better measure in practice - players good enough to play for Spurs season in and season out .......... and ignore wasters like Ndombele who figure in net spend but not on playing field

If you sign for a top club, you should always expect to be competing against other top players to keep your place in the team.

And again, I don't think 3 CBs competing for 2 spots is anything unusual. I would prefer the selection headache of keeping good players happy compared to relying on Dier/Sanchez if we have any injuries.
without european football its a big ask to have a 50m cb a 40m cb and another over 40m. we should be nailing some recruitment for the backup and doing some actual competent scouting work. to be fair if the backup is sanchez and hes used sparingly, its nt the end of the world. just dont want him having the ball at his feet much.

What it boils down to is this…..

Other clubs are spending more money than us….some of our ,only on players who were with us last season so technically don’t improve us that much now. If Levy is allocating the Kane money and nothing ,ore for the alleged 3 players Ange wants then he is skimping and we will not have a very good chance of top 6 let alone top 4/5.

So VDV is dropped?
How do you think VDV will feel about signing for a club and then get immediately dropped?
He'd probably feel upset. But it should be a meritocracy- so if Ange thinks he can do a better job than either Romero or Tapsoba, he should start.

But my main point is it's better to have selection headache and trying to keep a squad happy than having shit defenders come on when Romero does his hamstring.

Edit: VdV can also play LB, so would get game time as unlikely that Romero, Tapsoba, Udogie would all stay injury free for the season.

No, because Tosin probably does not think he can start over VdV (Tosin wasn't even a regular starter for Fulham).
Tapsoba is significantly better than Tosin, so it wouldn't take a lot to convince him that he'd play regularly for us.

Mate....... You're trading in guess-work, your wants and your feelings...... And i already answered the "yeh, but Tap is a better" player synopsis.

I gave your OG question a legitimate answer in the form of a plausible scenario...... My work here was done a few posts ago.
