It's almost as if many of us knew we were spending ahead of Kane leaving, even as far back as last summer.
Nobody spends £60,000,000 on a forward to sit on the bench every week. We bought Richarlison for  when Kane left.
Now it's time to batten down the hatches un cease any spending until further funds are raised.

Maybe, but he was also bought because we had no natural backup either in the event that Kane got injured and for rotation for up to a couple of years. Son could fill in when needed and was successful at times but not a more natural 9. We all complained on here for quite a while about not having a backup striker, and Richarlison fit the role and could also play out wider.

I think there may have been a part of it being contingency planning, but another striker was definitely needed anyways.

Problem is Richarlison's maximum goal return is 13 and is not a very good finisher. If we bought Richarlison as a replacement it is a dereliction of duty by the board.
You can’t just replace a player like Kane because so few of them actually exist, especially with his particular skill set. You just hope you can bring in a player that can make up some of the goals and helps the team improve overall.

Ange on transfers just now:

That's the reality of it. We can't just keep aquiring players. That affects training and it affects the players. Our focus right now is to try to trim the squad down and see where that takes us. There's still a couple of weeks left of the window and I'm sure we'll see movement.

I never wanted them but can see why Levy would hire them, being told it wasn't the quality of the squad it was mentality of the club. He would have told them the budget which wasn't that small and they seemed to have bought in to it, end of last season Conte looked like a good bet

For me it was always going to end the way it did, I never agreed with hiring them (bad fit for the club) but can see why he did

When they weren't allowed to spend their way out of their difficulties; things turned shitty..............

As if that's never been seen at their prior clubs. 🙄

If it's "huge" then Spence will have become one hell of a player.

I don't see how what I've said is a stretch.......

If we sell Spence to CP for 15m there's now way they agree to a buy-back clause under 30m....... That IS a stretch as it would put them firmly in the trap of developing our player for them for fuck all.... ALL their risk, none for us.

LOL...... Would be nice, eh. :)
I don't think anyone is going anywhere near £15m for him, that's half the reason we're discussing sell on %'s for him, as a way to make up the shortfall in what we can actually get for him.

The reason I say it is a stretch to claim it being like a buyback is that in the case of a sell on %, we have no real control over the future transfer, the other club can demand as high a fee as they like, they can simply ignore our offers altogether, or they can even negotiate a sneaky deal with another club to screw us out of the % (as we did with GLC).

The buyback fee gives us a level of control over any promising youngsters we sell, and that's the key part for me, things being in our hands. If they won't agree to a fee that we want to include, then they don't get the player, simple as. As much as we dislike the way City manipulate the market, their sales of young players ALWAYS have a buyback, we should be copying their approach on this front.

It would help if we had a better conveyor belt coming out of the academy tbf.

Also to note, there is nothing prohibiting us from including both a buyback clause and a sell on fee as far as I am aware, would be most prudent to take this approach for the sale of any youngster.

So in answer to the criticism of Levy outers not attending protests , in all seriousness this is my own perspective

Rational people know that hate and physical threats etc are not acceptable , I would never be part of or approve of such behaviour . There is no excuse pure and simple .

I also know that Levy is not going to be swayed by peaceful protest , if Gold and Sullivan faced down aggressive vitriol from West Ham far in excess of anything Spurs fans might care to do , ENIC will not cave in to few Levy out chants , no matter how many sing it .

So the ENIC defenders will call out quite rightly people who advocate violence and threats , then also try and ridicule those who know that chanting outside the stadium is a waste of time so don’t bother .

So actually venting on the forums is our only release in reality, why would I waste 2 hours before a game on something I know that will be as effective as a chocolate fire guard

EDIT : So there is your Catch 22
One is totally unacceptable with an alternative that is totally ineffectual

When he was hired, Ange was renowned for his time in Japan giving him a keen knowledge of the Asian market.

That will come in handy as after selling Kane it appears Spurs are set to sign his replacement, Fu Kin No Wan!

Club needs to trim players in order to bring vital replacements in.

Club with 2 weeks to go after having some of these players for years and multiple managers wanting them gone:

Romero is 25, VdV is 22 and Tabsoba is 24.

Seeing as we're only likely to be playing two of them, and haven't got CL rotation needs, I'm not sure why we'd spend another £60-80m on a centreback. We've seen in the past that young players signed for potential who don't play, quickly lose a ton of value. Far better to sign a solid experienced defender as cover for one of the main pairing and to assist with their development. I've said it before but signing Naybet made Ledley a better defender.
Where’s Sergio Ramos these days…

So after selling our best player for 100 mil we still need to sell to buy. What is this club man. Our focus should be outgoings AND incomings why do we need to put priority on trimming the squad over improving it.

Would actually ship Dier Tanganga AND Sanchez have Davies/Paskoti/Dorrington/Phillips competing for 4th choice, providing we sign another CB who’s genuine competition for Romero/VdV.

The 4th choice is unlikely to get many minutes with no Europe.
