I know I’m stating the obvious but it makes sense that the club is working hard to get the best offers possible for our outgoing / surplus players. I expect that the last few days of the window will be very busy and loan heavy.

“Lazio are close to signing Hugo Lloris, Inter Milan are pursuing Japhet Tanganga, Rennes are working on a deal to sign Tanguy Ndombele and Real Sociedad are negotiating the capture of Sergio Reguilon.

‘The senior quartet have all been told they are free to go by the 1 September cut-off by chairman Daniel Levy after talks with Ange Postecoglou.

‘Tottenham are working to reshape their squad following the club-record sale of Harry Kane. The prolific striker won’t be the last of the big names to go, with deals advancing for those not key to Postecoglou’s plans.”

be forewarned, this is some of the most nothing ITK i've seen in a while, but at least it's something to read on another slow transfer day.

From a rushed conversation with Gawain.

We are pushing hard to get 5 or 6 out, but as expected it isn’t easy. There is solid interest in 2 and medium interest in 2. A couple more we would like to leave but no tangible interest yet. Would like to bring in 2 or 3 before the window closes, but not completely confident we’ll get them over the line in time. One CB, one winger and ….. I don’t remember the position of the other one. Sorry.

Think Kane, shouldn’t be too difficult.😂

Blue & Yellow was PoTL
PotL actually seemed to get some scoops previously which was why that particular one got so much traction iirc. I do genuinely believe there was real ITK from 2005-2013 or so, because Paul Kelmsley would divulge secrets about Spurs to a fucking telephone pole for hours if it meant someone would listen to him talk, and because of the likes of gabbers Redknapp and Poyet having higher up positions in the club.

After ’Arry left it became total utter bullshit.

The longer this window goes, the luckier I feel that we signed Maddison so early in the window for just 40m. After the Mount, Tonali, Lavia, Rice, Havertz, Pacqueta (attempted deal), Caicedo, and Szoboslai deals, it's obvious that Maddison is at least a 60m player even with his expiring contract and Leicester's relegation. City would be all over him, if he had still been on the market in August.

Also, we probably should've taken further advantage of Leicester willingness to do early business and grabbed Barnes for the 38m that Newcastle paid.

A new owner???

The same was said under Conte who preached about patience but I said from the start our fans are and it would be him who would need to find the patience.

Levy’s worst mistake is that he never learns from them.

..........Any new manager deserves patience.

I don't want Levy to "learn" from the Sanchez-booing, Richarlison-trolling, Vicario-agendering corner of our fanbase.

Expecting Ange to turn he whole club around in one season and remodel the entire squad in his image in one window isn't realistic...... It never was..........

Exactly. Exactly.

Peak Poch success was buoyed by the fact that in the mid 2010s football management was nowhere near as advanced as it is even 8 years later, and Poch’s high pressing system was a rarity and a black swan in England (yes seriously). We got first mover advantage in a way before the Klopps Peps De Zerbis etc showed up.

But importantly, our success also relied upon ludicrous outperformance of transfer fees by literally every single one of the starting XI:

Lloris - £12m (considering he was an established international keeper and only 25, a literal steal that could never happen today)
Walker - £2m from Sheffield
Vertonghen - £15m from Ajax
Toby - £12m from Atletico (dodgy Southampton deal iirc)
Rose - £1m from Leeds
Dembele - £15m from Fulham
Dier - £3m from Sporting
Dele - £5m from MK Dons
Eriksen - £13m from Ajax
Son - £23m from Leverkusen
Kane - free.99

Again, every single player outperformed their fee by astounding amounts. I’d estimate that every single player I just listed was performing like a £40-50m player at bare minimum by 2016-17.

The thing is that this just isn’t possible anymore. Orban would be the most expensive player on this list and he’s a 21 year old with 30 matches of European football. Veliz cost as much as Eriksen and Dembele did.

It just isn’t at all feasible or financially realistic to build a title contender that way anymore. The only way to do so would be with a world class academy but when you look at the allocation of resources at Spurs Academy and the state of the coaching it’s obviously miles and miles off.

Prices of players are higher today - lets say 3 fold, maybe more.

Good example being Van de Ven bought for £30m plus add ons - lets say taking that to £40m.

Compare that to the slightly more experienced Vertonghen or Alderweireld who cost £12m or £15m.

and Maddison was a bargain versus some other top creative players, and same is true of a few of our main players like Bissouma, Bentancur etc

Level of expectation will be the same. And they will be competing with some sides who paid closer to £100m for each player, but not the majority of PL sides.

So Ange will have a challenge to get close to expectations with our squad of players who were bought for far less than some top 4 clubs and paid less wages. But Ange said when he joined that he wanted to be challenged and thought Spurs/PL was the place to do it

Madders Bissouma and Bentancur for less than 90M combined is completely insane in this market.

And getting a discount off market value is one thing, but that trio being fit for purpose playing in the same midfield under your manager's tactics is the real trick of squad building.

Ange on transfers just now:

That's the reality of it. We can't just keep aquiring players. That affects training and it affects the players. Our focus right now is to try to trim the squad down and see where that takes us. There's still a couple of weeks left of the window and I'm sure we'll see movement.

He was being pretty mischievous with his comments and follows those ones up saying ins aren’t dependant on outs.

Im hoping that there will be a flurry of sales and a couple more signings over the next couple of weeks.

hopefully its going to be a case of better late than never but we will have to wait and see.

The incomings arent going to be great though are they?

No team sells their best players at this point in the window because they cant get adequate replacements in time. It's the "we tried" time of the window once again. We've seen it for decades now.
