Watching Orban again, I’d love to see him try to do some build up or hold up play but he’s basically Jermain Defoe.

Just fluffed a 2v2 by just kicking it right and going for goal from an ill advised angle. He’s basic and raw. I don’t think he helps our build up whatsoever.

It's going to take time, as it well should. For all we know we may be following some really talented youngsters in the mould of Sarr or Udogie that just need one more year where they're at before we go in for them.

You don't sell a striker and fail to replace them.

That's just basic stuff.
 
Expecting 3 first team signings at this point is optimistic.

I’d prioritize a top winger and a depth CB.

We really have to chill with the striker talk… the options out there aren’t much better than richy or son and spending a massive amount for little to no upgrade is not smart.

He's not all of a sudden going to net twenty goals is he?

Another piss poor signing and another sixty million down the shitter. We wouldn't get thirty million for him when we try and sell him.

we've just signed 4 first team players in vicario, udogie, micky pond and maddison. expecting the club, any club, to sign 7 new first team players in one window might be a little bit overzealous, no?

What that means for Ndombele who has 2 years left on his contract and paid £200k pw (£10m pa) is a payout of £20m. Getting rid of 10 players might well cost the thick end of £100m.

We might be able to sell a couple for circa £20m each if we are lucky (giving a small fund) and loan out a few, but heavily subsidising their wages which might well cost us £20m/30m this season, but the rest we cannot sell or loan (plus the injured Sessegnon and Gil) we have no option other than to keep. But despite the naysayers, we are actually in a much better position than we were last season having brought in Vicario to succeed an increasingly erratic Lloris, Ven de Ven and Ugogie (loaned out last season), the creative Maddison, and a few youngsters ..... with possibly our biggest change being our new manager who is using players such as Bissouma far better than Conte ever did.

Sure, we'd be even better with a couple of extra players ...... and the same will be true next summer.

But I think we'll enjoy the football this season, much more so than the last few seasons

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't squad places only affected if these surplus players are registered with the squad? So if they're told they won't be registered, what we effectively have is an excess of players that we will be paying a wage, but they won't impact the actual squad for the season?

Essentially, we'll have players on "gardening leave" that won't get a game if they hang around?

I don't know the mechanics of this, so can anyone educate me here?

Rebuild is well underway - just look at the 20 players brought in during 2021/22, 2022/23 and this summer :

GK : Vicario, Forster
CB : Romero, Ven de Ven (Phillips)
FB : Royal, Porro, Spence, Udogie
CM : Bentancur, Sarr, Bissouma, Maddison (and Skipp after his Norwich loan)
FWD : Kukusevski, Richarlison, Perisic, Solomon, Veliz, Gil

and that's to refresh and upgrade on the squad in 21/22 and before - players such as Son, Davies, Hojbjerg

So next summer will be mostly about upgrading a limited number of positions rather than 'having to' bring in 6 players to get a decent squad.

I agree. We’ve left it too late to even bring one in now. Nobody is selling their best players with a week of the window left.
