I don’t believe for a second that a) Jota is actually available and b) that the Saudis would rubberstamp a buyout of his contract and turn their £25m investment into an immediate £30m loss. Even for them it sounds dodgy as all get out and the sort of thing that wouldn’t be clean and easy in the slightest.

You do realize he came on as a substitute on Thursday, he actively plays for them.

Martinez stinks of another expensive flop, if he's so amazing why is he playing for Inter? Players in Italy are very attainable for the right price, most of the teams are fucking skint, not one of the oil clubs or the old elite like United, Liverpool, Barca, RM come sniffing for him, spent a fortune more on players in his position who are less of a "guarantee". Looks to me like a reasonably reliable 1 in 2 type of striker, but for like £80-100m that Inter will want no thank you. He's not anything special to warrant that kind of money.
Why’s he playing for the champions league finalists ?

I’m picturing some goofball on an inter forum in 2019 asking why, if he’s so good, Kane is playing for Tottenham.

He has 55 minuted played between 3 games. Not much from a big signing. Talks are they have him for sale but who knows.

Great pod of Gold and Guest on Friday about transfers. We really can't do anything until players are sold. Nothing to do with finances, we just need squad openings.

If we got a better player in then we absolutely could and should drop him.

That’s why we need to continue with these Udogie Sarr style punts every year. Just set aside £30-40m each summer for potential players who maybe are a season away from contributing and let him cook. That’s what we quit doing under Poch and Mou and it burnt us. You need to keep the conveyor belt of new blood going.

Do you know much about Andreas Skov Olsen at Club Brugge? He has started this season very well, if he continues like this then a lot of clubs will become interested imo

He really seems to have everything a wide attacker needs. Goals, assists, can cross, is primarily left footed but his right is effective too. Plays mostly as a RWF so would provide real competition for Kulusevski. Good height, physique and .

I guess the only issue with him had been consistency and despite being highly rated as a kid somehow hasn't pushed on but who knows maybe he is a late bloomer. Iirc still only 23 or 24 yo though

I wonder if the data guys and Ange have looked at him and something doesn't add up because we are not linked to him despite the fact he has the potential to be just what we are looking for and won't be expensive.

It seems we are after Johnson for the Rwf role but imo Olsen would be an excellent option and at less than half the price that Johnson would cost

Why don’t we offer them a share of the gate receipts for a behind closed door friendly as a gesture of good will?

:levywhoa:

Football is a results business for the first teams. So the further up the pyramid, and particularly the further up the league that you are the bigger the expectation is on those results. And 99% of managers aren't going to lean on youth players to achieve that. Same for those teams fighting off relegation. The only clubs that can comfortable sneak youth players in every year are the ones that are content sitting around 10th and know that they can achieve that every year.

Poch stopped leaning on the academy core that he inherited the more success he had with Spurs.

There are obviously teams that are complete outliers from this principle, like Athletic Bilbao. But that is because they refuse to sign a player that lacks a connection to the Basque region. Which limits their recruitment pool.
i agree 100% with everything you say
but top clubs still spent millions on youth
i just always like when teams dont have all foreign players playing, but have a good mix with english and foreign players and a core of youth players like barca back in 2005
(probably i played to much football manager games and pro evo to have this mind-set)

but yeh you right

Another one on the list with Eze and Olise of hugely promising Championship players we showed massive interest in, could have signed and didn't.
£18M I think spam paid for him. We were interested but never pulled the trigger. If we had him on the right just imagine. Has pace, control and great goal scoring record. We have kulu who cost twice as much and doesn’t offer anywhere near as much!

After watching yesterday's match, our top priority should be a fast, right-footed RW imo. I've defended Deki earlier on in this thread and I still like him, but his lack of acceleration is a bigger problem than I thought. This comes to show when Porro doesn't overlap but goes into the midfield to support - then Deki's technique just doesn't seem to be enough to beat his opponent 1-on-1. I know Deki scored but this wasn't so much because of his skills than it was because of Bournemouth's lacking defense.

Next should be a new CB. Davidson Sanchez just can't be our back-up CB.

And finally, if the money is there, a striker could be a possibility. However, I have faith in Richarlison. He works like hell and I'm confident when he gets his first goal this season everything will come easier to him.

Needs to happen soon, he had a torrid second half, fell over the ball, needless frustrating yellow card, the miss in the box etc. He currently looks devoid of any confidence, plus what if he gets a long term injury?

We need another forward, maybe the competition of another forward will boost Richy into picking his game back up

I reckon we’re probably done for the transfer season for incomings and I’m ok with that. In terms of starting 11, I think we’re looking reasonably good. Striker is probably the one key position we lack someone with quality but every other position, I think we’re ok. We have 35 players in the first team and 5 of them are looking like they’re going to go out on loan so there’s 5 others that need to be offloaded before Friday. That will be the priority. Get to January and we’ll see how we’re doing. We’ll have made a lot of changes this summer regardless, let’s bed them in
