6/10
Was this a top-notch transfer window? No.
But we can't expect a rebuild to be done in one transfer window alone.
Of course, it sucks we didn't get an extra CB. That is what takes this window down to a 6 (from an 7/8) for me. However, there are a lot of positives to take from this window:
- Madders provides desperately needed offensive skills in midfield
- We got a challenger for Deki with Brennan coming in. (It might even be a possibility to play Deki in Madders' position if Lo Celso isn't up for the task)
- VDV seems like a great fit - though the transfer took way too long and seems to be somewhat expensive
- We got two new exciting prospects in Veliz and Phillips
- A new goalkeeper that won't be having the mental breakdowns that Lloris have been executing the last three seasons
Of course, we didn't off-load players like Dier, Sanchez and Ndombele, but if they won't take the bait we can't force them to leave.
Also, I don't understand why people so desperately wanted us to sign a new midfielder. We are stacked in midfield with Bissouma, Sarr, Bentancur, Skipp and PEH. And the people complaining about the latter need to take it down a notch. PEH is probably the one player giving his everything in every match, so if there's anyone who is able to adapt to a new system, it's him.
On a final note, I know we all hate that a lot of the deals are done at the end of the window. It doesn't help the squad. However, we know this is how Levy works and this is not going to change.
For me, this window is approved. It could have been better but a rebuild takes at least three windows, so we're off to an acceptable start.
