There was definatly an edge going to games back in my early days of going away with my mates.
Even the london underground on a Saturday morning through to evening was like a hooligans theme park at times.
Even away from football, if a group of blokes were going to a gig or a night out and looked the part,they risked the attention of one mob or another.

Seriously mate the estates up there were 3rd world. Went with Millwall in the 80s Midweek. Couldn’t understand a fucking word anyone said. But every fucker wanted it.
Back then everyone up there was either a docker a miner or in the steelworks. No skinny fuckers like me.
That's when we used to come unstuck. Down here everyone was a 15-25 year old but up there you were up against proper men more often than not.

It’s not the same these days, I went there circa 2017, We won 2-1 with Son scoring both. I had to park miles away from the stadium and walk from some weird city centre to the ground, with my Spurs top on all inter mingled with the home fans - absolutely no trouble whatsoever, both sets of fans were getting on fine and it was the same on the walk back, not even a hint of trouble.
Some of their lot had full beards and we were still at school.
Funny enough, when i started my apprenticeship a Chelsea fella i worked with said the same.
