Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Arteta had a spell in his first full season where in his opening 16 games, he lost 8... Which included 7 games in a row without a win (5 losses, 2 draws)

In fact, between game week 3 and 14 of that season, they won just 2 games. Against Sheffield United who got relegated and Man Utd.

He ended up finishing 8th that year. They stuck with him. The following year he started moulding his team. Got rid of players who clearly couldn't play the way he wanted or bad influences (Luiz, William, Auba) and brought in players like White and Odegaard who could. Finished 5th that year after bottling the top four but progress was made.

Fast forward to the next season. Continued to get rid of players who didn't fit and once again built on it. Jesus, Zinchenko, Trossard all come in and it clicks.

Yes, Arteta was backed heavily in the window. Something we know is unlikely here to the same extent. But they stuck with him because they saw what he was wanting to build.

We need to do the same. We really do. We can see what he is trying to do. With players in the squad below par. We're not getting the results right now. But they'll come. That's football.

What's imperative is that we back the guy.

Meh it doesn't even need this

We are where we are now because we've been hit by a load a key injuries, Arteta's project never hit anywhere the heights that we hit in our first 3 months, we know how good we are and what we can achieve with this team.

Agree , and that’s where the supporters wrath should be aimed at or we are back to square one
Trouble is that, if levy gets stick, then he tends to react, meaning back to square one.
I think the club is fucked anyway, regardless of who is the manager.
This club has an adversion to winning/success, that has stunk this club out for some time.
Ange won't achieve much, but that's not his fault, the club acts like a big time Charlie, when in fact it shares more in common with clubs like West ham rather than the big boys.
Changing management, scout's, sporting director, will achieve little until the whole organisation is bought out and fucked off.

I told you so?

wtf you on about you babbling fanboy. I've said countless times I've been massively impressed on the whole by Ange and in no way saying be needs to be sacked.

He deserves criticism for this run though so quit acting butt hurt and allow people to express.
Go express yourself all over the walls mate and while your at it give it a taste, the what will happen if we lose the next 5 games and get knocked out of the FA cup line deserves to be written in faeces, loser

He’s not going anywhere. The club will stick with him.

As you say, it’s all down to backing. We need, at a minimum, 4 players. A wide man that can actually score and and full on 9. Then another CB and versatile 10/8.
I don't understand where this is even coming from. The club are not stupid enough to bin him, I don't care if theres a loud minority of idiots at the game calling for it, it isn't happening.

He'll get enough backing to make us a top 4 team at least, anything beyond that might be pushing it but there are managers who have made it happen with limited backing so who knows.

Serious question

Given the player crisis we have. How many losses will fans accept while we go out and "play our football no matter what" ?

4? 5? 10?

As I thought losing to West Ham is definitely a catalyst for questions to be asked.

2 or 3 first yeah starters out. Not the worst situation any clubs find themselves in.
And we started a better team than faced City away.

Big few days for Ange on the training pitch now.

So we should show patience just so we can go back to the Poch era?

Anyone questioning how things are going now are complete and utter fucking clueless idiots. Ange wasn’t happy last night including the first half where every one of us were loving it. There’s fine lines between being very good and what we saw second half even though we still dominated.
From the beginning he has said this will take time and we have probably been spoiled with the first ten games. Come the start of next season we will have a team and squad more capable of sustaining a challenge and we will be more ruthless in both boxes. This is still the beginning for us so patience is needed. The ones that can’t accept that don’t understand the game.
Imagine supporting West Ham and watching that every week?
To expect it to be perfect every week and win all the time is delusional.

in the last 5 games we have taken the lead in EVERY game and still somehow managed to lose 4 of them taking 1 point from 15.

The most alarming thing is that in those games (chavski game aside as we were down to 9) he has been tactically outwitted by David Moyes, Gary O'Neil and Unai Emery who all tweaked a few things when it wasn't looking good for them to turn it around.

Ange on the other hand rarely tweaks anything and goes like for like on substitutions (with city being an exception). Even in the very odd occasion he tries to change it in an attacking sense he counters it with a defensive minded substitution (richi coming on today to change formation but Skipp coming on with him and replacing Lo Celso who at least was passing forward).

You absolutely cannot be in a winning positions 5 games in a row and fail to win any of them. It's indefensible and even he is aware of that going by his post match interviews. The 'can't say anything negative about Ange' club need to chill out and allow people to express their feelings with Ange not having a plan B clearly evident and a fair criticism.

When does this run become an issue for people? I'm genuinely interested. If we lose the next 5 league games and get dumped out the cup then what?

You made some excellent points.

But I think in some occasions the dog is buried somewhere else.
West Ham game, I do not believe was "tactics battle" or that "Moyes outplayed him".

West Ham game we lost totally on our own. The issue yesterday was that we did not had what it takes to kill the game off.
We attacked and played with high intensivity, had territorial advantage but the game was simply being decided on goalscoring.

With game staying 0:1, West Ham players ALWAYS had that belief, that just one single moment is needed to get something out of it.
If we actually would have rattled them with all the possession and territorial advantage, their mentality would have been broken.
Goals change games, if first half ends 3:0, it's done. They would know that they are on mission to save their faces and nothing more.

But we... just pushed ball upfield and controlled it (and did it well), but never went for the kill.
And that has to change.

I agree, but we can't continue to not pick up points, it's demoarlising and is unsustainable.
Yes we have had injuries, but that can't keep being used as an excuse.
Last night injuries was not the issue, everybody needs to sort themselves out including the manager.
Have you seen the state of some of the teams around us? City are only 3 points above us, Newcastle have an injury crisis and just lost 3-0, Man Utd are in complete disarray and are level with us and Brighton went winless for 2 months and are 2 points behind us. The only team we're competing with who are doing well is Villa, we'll see how long that will last.

I'm not worried at all.

The same west ham that, has beaten us and won a European trophy just a few months ago 😁

I mean, you could definitely argue injuries definitely contributes to last night.

Van de Ven instantly makes us better defensively and Maddison unlocks tight defences.

Perisic/Solomon are better subs than what we could bring on and Bentancur is lightyears ahead of Skipp as a sub too.

Ange said from day one we would have to suffer for periods to get where we want to be

This is one of those periods

Hold strong and support him and this man can take us to the places we want to be

Deki played midfield the last two games where he had his best performances, unfortunately we were a bit unbalanced there with Bissouma being isolated so he put in Hojbjerg to give us some control like it did in the second half against city.

I actually thought Son was alright last night, just no one being able to find his runs. He's the best finisher in the league so it isn't surprising he'll start most games but unfortunately he struggles against low blocks which is probably why he was moved to the left later on in the second half. I actually think Richy is better suited against those teams, he can use his movement to create space for everyone else which is one of the ways you break down a low block but he's being eased back in currently.

First of all - against West Ham Deki was absolutely on the right. Just look at all those moments where he... did nothing with the ball in promising position, or failed to go past West Ham player.

Second of all - WHAT RUNS? If side defends like West Ham did, YOU HAVE NO RUNNING ROOM. That is the whole point. Son to CF was successful experiment born from idealistic play from Burnley and cemented by our good wing-play against Woolwich and Liverpool where we played in early balls and Son got to receiving end. But if we play against low block (so no runs) and we never play in early balls (so no chance to beat your marker close to goal) then he is ineffective. It blows my mind how Ange does not see that.

So my 12 hours later post loss analysis here on how we lost the game.

If you were watching on TV, you'd have picked up on the idiot commentator repeatedly pointing out that West Ham kept clearing the ball long and how it was futile, because it would just come back at them, and it did.
To the layman, this was a fairly simple action ocuring over and over.
But what he failed to pick up on, was that at no point did West Ham allow themselves to be pressed by our front 3 in their own 3rd. This was very deliberate and the reason why they never kept the ball long in that zone. By the time one of our defenders or the keeper gathered the long balls they played, they managed to get back into a tight defensive shape.
Further to this, we over passed the ball over and over, meaning to the layman we dominated possession and played pretty football.
But in reality, what we did, was have 75% of the ball exclusively in front of West Ham. We rarely if ever got in behind because we constantly, infuriatingly refused to go long and try to get in behind on the rare occasions they opened up and entered our half.
Realistically though, with those 2 game plans we still should have won 1-0 because we got a lucky goal from a corner.
Simply put - you cannot account for the cosmic levels of luck they got with their 2 goal. I can't help but feel every one of their squad has sold their souls to the devil in exchange for those 2 chances, as they did nothing whatsoever to deserve goals, let alone sitters.

Ange needs to work on our counter attack. We shouldn't only play this passpasspasspass football, it doesn't work against unadventurous teams who are happy to sit in deep. Especially when Kulu flat out refused to go outside and did absolutely nothing coming inside, nobody gave Son or Johnson a through ball they could run onto and all our chances came from outside the box.

This game had massive flashbacks to Newcastle at home in 2019

The stats are shockingly similar.

fukn cracks me up reading through some of the shit that some of you plebs write TBH. yes the team is going through a little rough patch, mainly due to the massive injuries happening to an already thin squad. baring the wolves game and some of the city game spurs absolutely dominated nearly every game they have played, last night was just bloody unlucky. Ange always said it was going to take time, wait until he gets a couple of windows to see how they go. NO MANAGER HAS EVER DONE WHAT HE HAS DONE IN PREM HISTORY WITH THE TOTAL CHANGE OF PHILOSOPY in such a small time frame, anyone who disagrees is a dip shit.
