Transfers January Transfer Thread 2024

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

In a world where our rivals consistently buy £100m players, we're resigned to ruling out players like Olise cos he'd cost north of £80m.

I'm not even saying spend that for him, but we're so far behind our rivals in that regard that we don't even get to dream about such players.

I'd be taking him to start in the Euros this fucking summer mate.

He's already better than Maguire.

England's 4 best CB's IMO:

Stones
Tomori
Guehi
Branthwaite

Then you can take Colwill as a LB who can cover CB as well.

Brathwaite I think will be our best long term.

He has all the elements, big, very quick, aggressive, dominate, calm. The elements that make VVD so good.

At the moment Stones is our best CB then it’s who you put with him.

Would anyone take ollise or eze ahead of any of our forwards? Eze id imagine could play attacking 8 where kulu plays. I’d say both are better than most of our forwards in terms of skill level.

Eze certainly a huge upgrade on Lo Celso as a creative CM who can also play as LW - gets goals and assists as well which Lo Celso does not. I'd be overjoyed if that could happen.

Olise I think plays further forward - but he could certainly replace one or both of Gil and Solomon and improve us, again score goals and assists in far greater quantity than Gil or Solomon.

A bit of an exageration to say that our rivals are consistently buying £100m players - there's only been 2 £100m+ buys and one of those was to Chelsea!
A player doesn't need to be the most expensive but the best fit for our team at present - I'm sure Ange will be making it clear who/what he wants which may or may not include Olise. Whether the money will be made available is a discussion for another day (not one I want to join!).

I’ve seen comments about Philips and Dorrington not being ready . Our under 21 team is top of their league, won all 9 games and conceded 8 goals. I know it’s not against Premiership games but I bet if Dier and Royal were our centrebacks in thise games the stats would not be as good. Give them a chance.

Agree on all that.

But both are aged 18 - will be 19 in April or June 2024 - and most lads put on a lot of muscle between 18 and 21. Both are tall and filling out nicely, I just don't know how they look playing mens PL football - only the coaches will know.

But I'm a tad disappointed we've seen neither get minutes - Donley (same age) has had a couple of minutes at end of 2 or 3 matches and there's a great photo of him challenging Haaland (who is very powerfully bult) in his thread, and maybe that's Donley's problem too. It really is the coaches call

Players transferred for rooughly £100m.

Enzo
Grealish
Rice
Caicedo
Lukaku

There are dozens of players bought in recent years who cost far more than our record transfer Richarlison.

Again, I'm not saying we MUST spend loads on Olise, the point is that we rule ourselves out from such transfers completely. If Ange really does want Olise and Palace demand £80m, what are the chances that we still persist?

That's the thing I'm pointing out.

I'd be surprised if Brentford sell in January when they could use him for the rest of the season to boost them up the table and sell in a bidding war in the summer.

Was thinking similar too..... Their shit-ness has gone under the radar a bit this season. Just lost 4-1 to Wolves at home too.

Selling your main ST when you're 14th and struggling could be suicidal and nullify any fee windfall if it results in relegation.
