Transfers January Transfer Thread 2024

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Not sure if he'll have a say on the matter tbh.
If they want him gone (fatty Boehly and his head chopping Saudi paymasters), then he’s gone

I agree with you, but I don't think we go for player who is pushed out instead of wanting to join.

That does not seem to be our operating model, and I find it reasonable.
Would be pretty sad to have player in the side who still has hard-on for absolute vomit-inducing pile of shit that is Chelsea.

Quick English grammatical study sidenote:

The preposition used with 'day' is 'on'. On holiday, on my birthday, on transfer deadline day, on Friday. The exception being time modifying markers such as 'this, that, next, last'. Last Friday, next Sunday, that holiday, this transfer deadline day denoting tense, and possessives, my, your, his, her, our, their. Our transfer deadline day, their holiday etc....

Just to be clear. I was guilty of thinking Sessegnon had shown potential and might be worth a (HG) punt. Hands up to that mistake, absolutely. But I was never “all in at 40m” for him. I stated at the time I wouldn’t have paid what we did for him.
Fair, it was Hercules I clearly recall giving it the “I know Youth Staff personally, and, he will be worth every penny at £50m, trust me”.

Must admit, I still see attributes in Sessegnon, if he can shed his injury woes and build self confidence, his touch and interplay is not bad (just likely always way short of what we paid), his finishing is/was very good for a non-striker.

If you expect anything else you haven't watched how we operate in the TW..
Bro was expecting us to drop £200m in Jan
Try with £20m if we're lucky.

I know you guys are trying to be cynical and "cool" and all.
But maybe give it a rest of trying so hard?

Circumstances change. Lot has changed in and around of our club.
1) We sold a star-player in august for 100 mil.
2) Our few recent transfer-windows have been utterly successful, with us getting in VDV, Madders, Vicario, Udogie, Kulusevski, Bentancur for an example. OBVIOUSLY such track record impacts transfer decisions. Everyone would more logically invest after such run of decisions compared to Ndombele, Lo Celso, Sessegnon, Clarke, Sissoko etc signings.
3) We are in best position we've been in ages, as we are just 1 point from CL places in January after having HALF of the starting XI injured or suspended.
4) Our transfer outlay in recent windows has been significantly larger than same windows few years ago.
Jan 23 - 45 mil for Porro
Jan 22 - 59 mil for Benta+Kulu
Jan 21 - 0
Jan 20 -30 mil for Bergwijn
Jan 19 - 0
Jan 18 - 25 mil for Moura
So to generalize - with 4 previous Jan windows we invested/committed 55 mil; with past 2 same figure is 104 mil.

So, maybe try bit harder than "ah, we never spend", "oh, we are always like X or Y". I know it takes effort, but still.

That's not good enough cover, GLC has a had a few good cameo moments, Biss is always getting suspended, Skipp is a jack of all trades and master of none
Agree.

Ideally Skipp should not play for Tottenham. Having PEH here at least limits his minutes.

I don't accept we lose £10m-£15m of value by waiting till summer to offload PEH. it's 18 vs 12 ish months to run. There will be many more buyers in summer. Marginal fall in value if that.

Keep PEH till the summer. Learn from the first half of the season.

All I'm litterally doing is trying to set people expectations, who will get dissapointed if we don't sign 4 first teamers.

So no i'm not trying to be "cool". So don't @me.

We have trouble offloading PEH at all. PEH, Lo Celso would have gone in the summer if they had buyers.
Skipp would probably be easier to sell than them but again, he has to be replaced.

There is clearly a bunch of clubs looking at PEH

With GLC able to play or come on and help us change/control games and Bentancur finally back, there’s really no issue flipping PEH by the end of January
90% he goes by end of the month
Looking but not doing anything.
who is going to buy him?
Italian clubs, Spanish clubs, Prem clubs.

I’m not his agent but he was linked heavily in the summer and he’s just changed agent to make sure he gets a move.

That is an interesting discussion...

PEH situation is interesting indeed. Now it seems that Juve in fact does not want to get in Phillips, so that can give us a chance.
Question is - do they REALLY-REALLY want him (meaning are they willing to cash in on someone else to get him).

If they do not, its gonna be difficult and I doubt he will move in January.

I agree - he himself wants out. And from club perspective, it would be optimal time to sell. The discount for short contract increases very rapidly at this stage. But it all boils down to interest and ability to really ship out some money from buying club. Right now I do not see any other realistic buyer. Maybe - again Fulham if they sell Palinha. Just saying "italian clubs, spanish clubs, prem clubs" is empty words. Few clubs in Spain and Italy are able and willing to pay 20+ million euros for 28 yo player in my view.

My gut feeling - if we receive offer of 20 mil or above - he goes. If we don't he stays because 10-15 million we can get in summer as well, and then we still have him as insurance policy for 2nd half of the season.
My ideal scenario - we sell both, PEH and GLC, pool the money and add some more and buy a really good midfielder that would push strongly for starting spots.
