I’ll have a bet with anyone right now that he’ll score more than Richarlison come the end of the season.
Including the 6 Richy already has? Can't see it. We're not gonna play a loan player over a 60m signing when our first team is fully fit, whether we are selling him in summer or pinning our hopes on him we need to give him maximum game time between now and the end of the season. Can see Werner starting till Sonny is back then mostly being the first guy off the bench after that.

Werner is just a pair of legs to cover for Veliz's injury, it's fine. He is quick and has PL experience, his goal record is dreadful but he is only here to help us through an injury crisis.
To date, the lad has played just over 400 games and scored more than 150 goals. In the Bundesliga, Prem and for Die Mannschaft.

Is he the German version of Il Fenomeno, Drogba, Aguero, Henry or Kane? No.

But you don't play that many pro games in top quality leagues and for such a major NT if you're a shit forward with a dreadful record.

Come on now.

I sort of get this move for the type of player. Centre forward in Ange's team isn't expected to be heavily involved in the play, and is to concentrate on making short sharp bursts in and around the box and in behind to be on the end of stuff.

That is Werner, his game is mostly about movement and he has pace. If you look at the couple of chances Richarlison fluffed last night for instance, half the problem was that he couldn't run away from the defenders which made things much tougher. TW might be no more reliable a finisher, but I'd expect that if he is given a pass in behind they're not getting back at him.

On the flip side though, this is yet another "off the ball runner" type. Like Son. Like Johnson. Would be nice at some point to get a forward/winger who likes and can do something with the ball at his feet, with a game primarily about being able to dribble or go past somebody. And no, I don't count Gil or Solomon.
A player of this profile coming from the left will be a game changer for us. I expect us to go for this profile in the summer. Werner is just a stopgap, I’m sure of it.

I don't love Werner, but come on he's better than Scarlett, and it's just a 6 months loan.

He will probably replace Bryan Gil anyway on the left and he is a far better player than Gil.

This is the thing sometimes fans don’t get when we are linked with Werner or Gallagher, nobody is saying they are Messi but they are significant improvements over Bryan Gil and Hojbjerg/Skipp so when it comes time to sub or we have injuries the standard doesn’t drop massively.

Yes, what you're saying makes sense, sure it does.

But is it the sort of gamble we should be making now, all things considered?...like our league position, opp to bag a trophy (at friggin last), the fact we're a very wealthy entity that could easily afford a 'surer' signing. I think that's what our friend Tottenham Massive Tottenham Massive was saying, but so much easier to shoot him down for his previous anti-Levy posts (not saying you did).

Do I like the Timo thing? Yes, could do far worse - especially in Jan - and if lady luck is on our side, bet he could prove a pretty shrewd move. But are there big questions marks due to failure at Chelsea & recent injury records? You bet. Would I have liked to see our great club, being mega wealthy and in a great position in the league, go bigger and bolder? Sure...and I ain't one to think that the price tag determines how good a player actually is (see Vicario vs Raya).

The loan simply says we get the player now - and I think we need an extra forward, especially with Son away, but long term as well. Werner has at least scored and assisted in PL before (stats for his 2 years at Chelsea showed 44 goal involvements at an average of 1.5 per game) so he passes all the 'sniff' tests. Ange has shown he's a man who knows what he wants and the recruitment team over last 2 years have had an excellent hit rate over that time (nobody gets every player right - and in corporate world less than 50% of acquisitions meet pre-acquisition expectations), so I think its good news.

The option in the loan tells us what the price is - bit if we can sign better in the summer then we can do that too.

So I'm firmly on board
