Gallagher & Werner's pressing would be a useful string to add to our bow
Exactly. The side is starting to have some identity. Porro, Udogie, VDV, Romero, Gallagher (if we get him), Sarr, Bentancur, Richy, Werner, Son etc. are all high pressers. Unbelievable how this team completely changed the shape and style in just 6 months. Shows the good work Ange and Paratici have done.

Funny way of spelling Gallagher

Scheming Jim Carrey GIF
Probably how the chelsea bellend signs his name...

I’m not really sure about PEH leaving. He has his flaws but yesterday demonstrated he’s clearly better than Skipp.

I can’t see us agreeing anything unless it’s a hefty fee.
Problem with Hojbjerg he makes lot of mistakes and given where he plays is too risky to have him on the team. Skipp is more risk free, but offers too little in general. If Hojbjerg could improve his concentration he would be a good player to have.

TBH I'd like that type of option on either flank. What I would say though is that the way we play the left side seems to be quite settled, and maybe not as conducive to the pure winger type. Maddison often plays in the left half-space feeding passes for the runner, you have Udogie underlapping frequently to take the space, etc. Really it's to the right flank where we often switch the play and have the man left 1vs1 with the opposition. We all know Kulu has something about his game and is a talented player, but he doesn't make anywhere near enough hay from these situations and it's something a ruthless team quite possibly has to look at.
I look at it differently. I prefer Brennan off the ball on the right because he opens the pitch for Porro to execute his outrageous passing/ shooting technique.

Udogie’s style is different and he could benefit with someone attracting players towards him so he can make his underlapping burts into vacated spaces.

Maddison then has the option of playing short intricate link up with the left side, or spraying it out to the more stretched right.

I see Kulu’s future in the midfield to be honest. Dembele/Joelinton career arc.

So Romano tweets that we're actually sorting out the payment structure, but some random on an aggregator posts this.

Which of them has the more accurate track record?
Aggregators are gonna aggravate fans to increase their engagements, nothing new.

Kinda like ITK's promising people the world and then resorting to blaming the board when they predictably don't happen to keep the scam going.

No I actually considered their 36.5 million outlay to be a premium. It was still expensive and was necessary to complete the pack.

It's near impossible to fill an entire squad with low profile under the radar signings before winning a league. Which is exactly our problem, we always have gaps in the squad.

The gaps in our squad are wholly and solely because :

1 From 2016 - 20 managers were allowed too great a say in acquisitions, so with a few exceptions such as Hojbjerg, Sanchez and Moura none of the others made much impact for over a season on Spurs first team, and Hojbjerg the only one to nail down a first team position in a few seasons - personally regard them all as squad players. So when we started our rebuild in 2021 under Paratici he had a worn out ageing squad from Poch which is gradually being upgraded (squads are NOT buld in one window). Same position as ManU have got themselves into

2 After Poch sold all the academy players in first team squad (except Kane) for £100m to invest in the likes of Sissoko he failed to develop young players. Classic case was buying Foyth as a youngster for £10m, only allowing him to train with first team, no youth games or loans. Then being surprised when he gave away 2 penalties on his debut,. Played about a dozen more games before being sold to Villareal at a loss. Hence no youngsters coming through into first team.

So atm our 'gaps' are mainly players who Paratici has not upgraded - and to upgrade a full squad means getting in a lot of players who are good but not always paying top dollar.

Still another summer or two to go to replenish the squad but he's made excellent progress - and I'm sure most clubs would be delighted to have 'cheap picks' such as Sarr, Vicario, Udogie et al in the squad - its what ManU would absolutely salivate over

Werner is elite off ball at least. I mean long as he isn’t finishing he can still look like a threat to defenders, press, even dribble on the wings.

I suppose that’s valuable.

I wholeheartedly agree.

Fill most of the squad with smart finds and supplement with a few examples of recognised but elite talent. That's all I'm saying.

"FFS not Werner, another cheap buy from Levy, typical Levy not backing his manager"

:ange-bored:

"But this is very much a player who Ange wanted"

:ange-arms:

"Well then the recruitment team should be the ones making the decision, not Ange"

:levywtf:

"Well, give me a realistic alternative who we should have bought then"

:nunothumb:

"I don't know, I'm not a scout, that's what they're paid to do"

Have you watched Ekitike?

PSG is a weird af club, but the kid did get chances, especially his first season, and he was utter garbage...playing next to Messi, Neymar, Bappe.

Despite his height, he would struggle mightily in the PL cause he doesn't like to fight.

He's going to Wolfsburg anyway, where he'll probably do well and give his reputation a new lease of life. Good luck to him.

What we need is something different to what we have. We need someone who has some pace but who also has some technical ability. Someone who the ball doesn’t bounce off. Who can carry the ball past a man but also do something in a tight space.

He’s only 21. We aren’t going to pay for the perfect 25yo pro finished. Look what Utd payed for Sancho or Anthony.

Both these players have flaws (and you can throw in Cherki) especially without the ball, but all young enough to coach “effort” it’s the technique and craft we are lacking.

Look at difference Klopp has made to some of his squad.

We can’t keep watching our great approach play come to fuck all because Richarlison can’t trap a ball, Johnson can only run in one direction, Kulusevski has the pace and dribbling ability of an armchair.

And I’m suggesting 6 month punts. They don’t work, send them back. Or go and pay the fucking money for the sure thing.
