Transfers January Transfer Thread 2024

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

The Barca thing I just understood what Richard was saying.

But in general I think we're not taking opportunities to build a side for a future in this window and it will be to difficult to fix everything in the summer.
What would've been a positive window to you, one you'd have had no complaint about?

I too would've liked more, but in the end, bringing in an exciting CB in Dragusin and a forward with pedigree like Werner, I don't think that's too shabby. Plus, we've also managed to get rid of Hugo's & Eric's big salaries, as well as sending our most promising younguns on some decent Champo loans.

Yes, would've been awesome to get a CM prospect + top quality ST and also cover at LWB, and for some of them newbies to be HG...but gotta be realistic. January is always a tricky window. AFCON & Asian Cup made it even more challenging. You can only buy if the other club is selling (at your price point) & player wants to join. Even though we aren't strapped for cash, we know how Levy operates...and what do you do when your injured players return and you got a squad of 30+ players?

I understand it can be frustrating. We all want the very best for Spurs. But the new structure - incl Ange - has been in place for just months. Give it time. Surely they'll look to address the remaining gaps in the summer...if not, yeah sure then have a moan. I will too.

And we don't wanna do a Chelsea...

How different is this window with Johan Lange in place?

Yeah, it has been a little bit different and I've been less involved than I was in summer it is fair to say. It's good and obviously this window is a little bit trickier because I had games, in the summer there are no games so if I needed to put more energy into that side of things I could.

Obviously we've had games and with Johan there and his group of people working alongside him, it has just meant I have had less involvement in a lot of the ordinary stuff and my role stays specific now to what it should be around the final decision (on transfers).

How does this recruitment system compare to your time at other clubs?

Everyone works differently. Johan works differently to others and I've always found that as long as you are working with good people who are all aligned, irrespective of the set-up you can usually get good outcomes.

The one non-negotiable for me is I need final say.
That's the one thing I insist on and only because the responsibility should lie with me as to that decision because I am the one who will put the final decision into the place he needs to be.

Aside from that, they all work differently, but I've enjoyed working with Johan and his team. I am sure going into the summer we'll be in a good place to make sure we again try to take advantage of the fact we can make our squad and team stronger for what is ahead.

Add it to the long list of champo talents we've dropped the ball on.
We can't sign everyone! And most of these players will not sign for us to sit on the bench when they have the opportunity to play regularly somewhere else. I mean just think about it, which champo talent that has been brought up in the past few years in this forum actually signed for a big 6 team? Most of them sign for teams like Palace, Spam, Bournemouth, and you can't blame them for that.

Current fit and available forwards;

Werner
Richy
Johnson
Deki
Gil
Donley
Scarlett

Only 5 of those likely to play until Son is back.

Not sure it’s a good idea to move Gil until the summer. We could but he’s one injury away from a start

But maybe Brighton actually want to buy him off us and we don’t want to miss the opportunity as it might not be there in the summer. Let’s be fair he’s not in our plans.

Buying Solanke for 60M will be a big mistake- hope its just a rumour

I am gonna put my neck on the board to say Werner will be a flop this remaining season.
He will have < 5 goals

The window in June is short and if something happens to Gallagher say an injury they can’t sell or sell for much. They need the money for June 30th for FFP and having a two week summer window is a massive gamble. The media is constantly reporting Gallagher to us, Broja for sale, this is Chelsea shitting their pants and getting the word out they need sales now.
I’m all for putting in a cheeky 20/25M quid bid on Gallagher on the second to last day of this window. Be shocked if Boehley accepted.

Agree it will a gamble for Chavs to wait until the summer - But his 1 billion quid transfer spend in 3 windows indicates that Boehley is go big or go home - gambler type of guy. Don’t think he’s bringing down his valuation right now - He’ll roll the dice betting that he can get things done this summer.

Hopefully it all ends in tears and a big points deduction for Blue Scum.

Sign up at least two prospects now ready for summer, Bardghji and Wharton for example. that seems realistic no?
