Manager Ange Postecoglou

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

So if Ange never is responsible when the team fail to win (some people in this thread seem to have this opinion) i guess he isn't responsible when the team win either?

He’s responsible for everything which includes a really fantastic start, genuinely changing us in to an offensive team, but also the fact that for a good while our performances have been pretty poor despite only being in one competition. Results catching up now.

I wish this could be as simple as praise when things are going well and criticism/reflection when not. Clearly at the start we were brilliant to watch and he deserved the praise. But then it got to cult like levels. Time to reverse, he isn’t god, he’s not beyond question, he’s just a charismatic bloke who likes to play offensive footie.

Earlier this morning people were calling me every name under the sun for questioning Anges comments regarding his “links” to Liverpool. Some were even saying that WE should be honoured to have him, that I’m not Spurs fan and that it is normal for managers to waggle their arses at other clubs with a twinkle in their eye at pressers.

No, he should be honoured to be at Spurs. We took the chance on him. He was a wild card.

And this is why you never take sides against the family. Tottenham Hotspur comes before anyone else at the club. Ange is a stranger at this club. Hes a stranger at top level football, and yet he talks as if he’s won it all. Hell he even says that.

He needs to lower the arrogance and humble himself in this league. Because we are making rookie mistakes and this gung ho schoolyard football only works sometimes and it seems we’ve already been figured out.

I posted a few weeks ago about how entertaining we are and neutrals love watching us. The attacking football is great, but we are entertaining as we allow chances galore against us. Therefore our matches are like basketball matches, end to end stuff, so of course neutrals would prefer to watch us.

If Ange is to take us from top 4 contenders to rolling with the top 3 and competing or the title, then we need to adopt a more tactical approach less rooted in a 'belief how football should be played'.

That being said, I do think Woolwich, Liverpool, Man City have more quality than us; in depth and in the first 11, so as far as resources at his disposal, he is 2nd only to Villa. Ill be disappointed if we dont finish 4th. I think we will though, but in the long run we need to be more tactical and concede less goals. We shipped 63 league goals last year and are on track to concede 57 this year. We need to get it down to around 45 if we are to become an 80 points team to start with

It’s why we always have to do well in the cups because the main course is always beyond us for a myriad of factors, which we all know and have been extensively covered. Unfortunately we haven’t given those the respect they deserve for as long as I can remember, domestic and European
Because our owners are only interested in using our football club to make money. We are their cash cow. Nothing more, nothing less. I don't know how many more years, managers and so called projects it's gonna take for our fans to get their heads out of Levy's arse and realise this when it's staring them point blank in the face

If anything, we seem to be right on track.

Now let's hope that we can build the squad suited to Ange and his style. Like those above.
Assuming that's all correct (no reson to think it isn't) it's a very interesting post/set of stats. Only Pep @ City who were already about a decade into their current sportswashing project when he turmed up has done better than Ange in their first season.

I personally think he's already got credit in the bank. Yes today was disappointing, and no, we're not going to win the league this year. But last year was disastrous. We have demonstrably improved. We're on the right path. If he gets backing with players to suit his system I think we're going places.

Are we allowed to be sceptical? We haven’t played well for a long time and todays result has been coming for some time.

NO!!!. .You must be a gooner

Am I doing this right, guys 💪

We are clearly better than last year and Ange will get plenty of time, but it has to be a concern we haven't played well in a long long time. Even the first halves against villa and west ham, I could forgive the results as you could see something really positive. I'm struggling to see anything positive post the middle of December except a few results we didn't deserve and utd away.

Conceding far too many goals to be a top side and not controlling the game enough.

Our lack of width I also find concerning. Its too easy for teams to defend the width if the penalty box without us getting in behind and cutting back dangerous balls

Same amount of points as Conte after 25 games.

Conte had a much weaker squad too.

But Conte was universally praised by Spurs fans after his first 25 games?

He literally saw us overtake our rivals, play some good stuff and qualify for CL...

So not really sure the point your making here.

If Postecoglous next 25 games then become what Contes did, feel free to bring it up again.

Lol, some of the posts here are getting embarrassing. Get a gripe ffs. Less than 30 games he had with us and not like some fans are blind to not see what the team can play in the first one third of those games. Missing out Udogie and Porro was a cause yesterday and no that's not an excuse, because in games they were present, we had other players out. It has been a makeshift team all along since the chelscum game in fucking November.

Of course Ange should not be omitted for questioning, but for some fans being disgusted by his stance of remaining neutral, or arrogant or not humble (like wtf, go watch lego head or Klopp smirking then) in answering to questions, i.e linking him to other jobs, are honestly incredible. Even if he's not the elite coach some here deemed him to be, let's not disrespect the big man with a big heart in all of his actions, footballing or non-footballing wise.

I bet some here can't wait to say 'I told you so' at the earliest instance after Ange appointment. But I'm sorry, with the great business we have done in the last 2 windows, you probably gotta wait a little bit longer. Because what these matches showed they only further strengthen the fact that those unsuitable players are slowly filtering out to be the weak links in the squad and waiting to be sold.

And if by the wish of some, he's really gone sooner than later, I'll still be so much at peace with him being our ex-manager than Mourinho or Conte. Because, yeah, these two are truly the cunts who should lower their arrogance instead.

I'm Lovin Big Ange Instead

Lets see if it works out. We played well at the start of this season, however I always thought that even then when we were playing well, the praise was just a bit over the top.

A few things in my opinion:

- Not such a big fan of Ange the person, have to be honest. Still happy that he is positively viewed upon by the majority of the fanbase though. However, that is less important if the football is good. And on the other hand the league is full with weird people on the sidelines anyway nowadays.

- We are not able to hold the ball and control the game in decisive periods. This is expected with new and young players as well as a new coach in a first season, but Ange needs to realise that there are moments in which you just really need to slow the fuck down. Not park the bus, but keep possession of the ball if there are signs of fatigue or positioning errors.

- Conceding small amounts of high quality chances. Holy shit. This was already the case to some extent in the first few gameweeks. The last few games, the opposition, even if in slight offside positions, gained top quality chances. There is no way we can sustain this and no team ever plays this way. So many goal scoring chances by running down the flanks and just putting in a bouncing cross because effectively we have no one closing down these kind of plays. VDV does his very best to deny this. So either 1) the fullbacks only join in attacking in certain scenarios or 2) the fullbacks are not sacrificed all the time and can support the two centerbacks.

I believe in the long run we will be just fine, however one style of play is not going to be enough. We have a well talented squad now without the deadwood of the seasons before. So there is an option to implement something new. Hopefully Ange sees this as well.

Quite simply, if Bissouma hadn't been lazy and actually tracked his man for the 2nd goal, we'd likely go on and won the game.

We are almost exclusively let down by individuals rather than tactics.

Bissouma doesn't have the workrate required for a high risk style game and he doesn't think quickly enough.

Any more performances like this and I can see the dressing you finger pointing picking up.

Quite simply if Wolves took all their chances --they could have been 4 zip up at HT,
we don't look like sc0ring - let alone winning.

we had 3 sh0ts?
* Royal on target
* Maddison of ttarget just above the bar
* Kulu toe poke

Almost every match in the recents weeks after Chelsea was a CLIFF HANGER.
Even Bournemouth or Brighton or Everton ..we might win 2-1 but could go either way,

//////We are almost exclusively let down by individuals rather than tactics.

what tactics are these?
-slow ball movement /- very short slow passing e.g Son
- lateral passing with no end product
-ultra high line against speedy merchants -it's not like we have the best hamstrings in the EPL

ANGEBALL & The Ultra High Line with "Inverted" FBs

Being a crossover fan from Celtic - We have all heard how successful this had been in the SPL for 2 seasons.. and we are talking about the likes of Ross Counties and St Johnston's. We have also been blessed with very good flank players and a super quick striker(s).

BUT dont forget we crashed out of the CL when angeball was found out when playing in Europe. If you rewind the reels where we were soundly beaten - you will see the no. of times the backs were caught out upfield when opponents mounted counter attacks. Eaxmple - Juranovic (RB)- he was caught out multiple times which led to us conceding goals & crashing out of the CL in 2 successive years.

This bring us to Angeball/High-Line at Spurs - does the gaffer persist and if so - would he be buying new Usain Bolts ? We already have one of the FASTEST CB - do we need another 3?
Or does he play the goalies way out of his box ? because not doing anything (different) is not an option. Where would he find the solution.. because it looks like he is persisting and not adapting since it had worked a treat in SPL.

71% possession.

4 shots on target.

That's the problem. We are totally ineffective in the final third and defences find it all too easy to sit back against us, knowing that we're not going to create shit.

Edit:

All that possession. 4 shots on target. Comprehensive overhaul of our attack needed in the summer if this is going to work, if not, no point even turning up next year because nothing will change.

I'm not Ange out at all. I was annoyed yesterday but not because of a one-off game, these signs have been in plain sight for weeks and arguably the whole season.

Yes, objectively it's the building phase, he's only had two windows and we are ahead of where almost all of us thought we would be. And yes, we've been hit with injuries. So have City. So have Liverpool. So have Woolwich. So have Villa. And they are all above us. Villa more irksome because their manager has only had one window and six months more than ours. The others have had untold riches and time.

However. Tactically we have both been found out AND seemingly don't know what to do. Teams just camp on their 18 yard line and we can't get through. Deki (goals notwithstanding) does little else and constantly checks back. He's slow and if he's not killing any momentum on the right is just coming centrally. Madders looks way off his early season self; like he's not actually fit. Biss is just a shadow, this is Conte Biss not Ange Biss.

And expecting Micky to clean up every punt over the top when he's facing four or five a game now is ludicrous. The worse thing is for the second Wolves goal they actually all busted their arses to get back but nobody thought to mark the goal scorer.

Things a young team but it's the same mistakes constantly. There are going to be bumps on the road and mistakes will be made, and I can deal with that. But making the same mistakes over and over and over? It's unforgivable and incredibly naive.

I don't care what the form table says, and I don't care how many wins and points we have currently. My eyes are the gauge. And if you were all honest, if results were all that mattered, you wouldn't all have kicked off when we were doing well with shit football under Jose and Conte. Disjointed by injuries perhaps and again we have a lack of depth which will only be addressed through time, but we are playing fucking shit. If you don't have the players for your system, you have to be pragmatic. And in this league you can't afford to be this naive. I want Ange to succeed, I want success for this club and for the first ten game we played some incredible stuff. We aren't even close to that right now, even with almost everyone available. What has gone wrong?

Were always going to be caught out due to the system, that's just the nature of it.

Rather than worrying about going the other way we need to focus on improving our forward play, if you sustain attacks better the more chance of you scoring heaps and putting the opposition to bed so much so you don't need to worry about the defence.

So the next step is to get in these 1v1 specialist wingers because 2 things will happen...1) They be able to beat their full back 1 on 1 and beat them for easy cut backs or 2) They will end up getting the opposition to double up on them meaning there is more space for our other players to cause damage.

So I'm not worried about the tactics, it was always going to get sussed out at some point, it's the personnel we need to upgrade on.
