Management Ange Postecoglou

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I think Ange is being goaded by the Woolwich-loving media into claiming the team and the fans 100% want to win this match. He is easy to manipulate and doesn't see the media having evil intent.

They will even "con" him into trying harder than they tried against Woolwich last week and he might be dumb enough to do his most motivational pre-match dressing room team talk.

I would say it's 90% Spurs fans want to lose this match and then save it for the Sheffield Utd game to ensure Europa League status from Saudi Arabia FC or Chavski.
They can con any manager if they want. They’ll just take bits of quotes and interviews and put it out there and let the fans go to town with it as you’ve seen on here.

Just listened to the entire presser and some of those comments are just really poor.

All he had to say was we will try to win as we do every match, there was no need for all the extras. Came across arrogant and like he doesn’t have a real understanding of the clubs rivalry. It’s alright saying he’s managed in the old firm so he gets it, but smashing rangers every year and winning the league over them
Is a whole different dynamic to the rivalry we have with Woolwich.

Just some poorly judged comments in there, there’s no correlation with our hatred with Woolwich and our lack of on field success , giving opposition fans an opportunity to laugh at your own team is never going to go down well.

The counselling comment is nothing!! He was joking with a reporter he knows. How that can offend anybody is embarrassing.

He never spoke disrespectfully about the fans🤷‍♂️
How on earth can you be disrespected with what he said?

I don’t see things in black and white and i certainly don’t get offended by what the manager has ever said.

People just want to be offended nowadays. The crazy thing about it is that it’s not just young people. It’s people who got brought up in tougher times but have got the soft as fuck bug!
He literally said he didn't care what the fans think and wasn't fussed by their opinions, how is that not disrespectful to the fans?

He could have quite easily said "Well, I understand they have a bitter rivalry so they are allowed to feel how they wish to about it but my only focus as a manager is to win every game, that's what I am employed to do"

And nobody would have batted an eyelid.

Instead, he went on a rant about how the journalist needed counselling because he dared to suggest some Spurs supporters online wanted us to lose the game, went on a ramble about how 100% of Spurs supporters would be happy for us to win this game because it would get us closer to a title in the future (absolute nonsense btw) and then downplayed supporters feelings when he said he didn't care and wasn't fussed by people who want us to lose the match, you can spin that how you want but it was disrespectful imo.

You are seeing things in black and white because you can't acknowledge that he could have handled the situation better, instead you have gone on a personal rant about how easily people are offended today (I agree btw, they are, we live in incredibly soft times with people wearing the badge of victimhood at every opportunity) but this isn't about being personally offended, this is about the way our PAID manager talks about the football club and the supporters who pay his wage.

Like I said before, it is a privilege for him to manage this club.

I just don’t understand how some fans are more concerned with Woolwich winning a title (which they have done many times since 1961) than about us achieving CL football this season. That CL qualification and the money that comes with it could be crucial for our future if it means we can get a player we wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford.

Playing in the CL brings not only prestige but important experience for our players. I see some fans saying “we aren’t ready for CL anyway” but that the fuck does that mean? We weren’t “ready” for the CL the first time we got there with Poch and we embarrassed ourselves in a weak group, but one year later we did much better and then a year after that we were in the final. It’s always better to be in it.

I understand that we all hate Woolwich but some on here seem to hate Woolwich more than they love Tottenham. Chelsea won 2 CLs and we are still here, the world didn’t end. Why are some people so bothered by some banter from Woolwich fans that they would prefer to jeopardise our season? The best thing for Tottenham is to finish 4th. I don’t give a fuck what’s best for Woolwich.

tbh I don't think we'll do much in the CL anyway. Yes, I'd take it over Europa, but it's unlikely we'll get there, and do much if we do. Europa we potentially could have a good run in, even fucking win something for once - if we have a good window.

I expect us to lose tonight, but I'm genuinely concerned we will also lose to Sheff United and be caught. Appreciate it is unlikely, but we can be so shite you never know. The hope is the window and more time for Ange can get us into a stronger place next season, in which Europa could potentially be great for the club .

Another spurs “fan” who doesn’t understand our rivalry with Woolwich

Which to me is why it would actually be understandable to rotate a bit today. CL is a stretch, and we need a result in one of our games for Europa. Rest a few players against a team that'll likely beat us anyway to ensure a top performance against Sheffield.

Pep said if you ask Ange this he will be offended and as usual Pep was right.

what he said was he basically wants to win every game no matter what anybody thinks. He’s a professional and I’m glad he has that mentality.

That’s the mentality we all want at the club. Well some say they want that but can’t handle what comes with that.

He’s been nothing but respectful to this club since the minute he walked through the door. You can aim other things at him in terms of how we play, tactics and anything football related but not that.

What I will say is maybe we shouldn’t hang onto every word a manager says in a press conference. They might not word things right when they look back at it and these imbeciles asking the questions are trying to get managers to say something they can use.

I’m bet if you say with Ange he’d tell you that he understands the rivalry and what it means to supported but he’s there to win games against everyone Tottenham come up against regardless of the circumstances.

another good post from you (you're on a roll).

Ange clearly doesn't get it and he's proven it.

* Comments prior to gooner scum game was that its just another game.

* Ange message to spurs fans on eve of the NLD that the club actually decided to tweet out:
"Setbacks are part of our growth as a team. Sometimes that growth can be painful and you have to embrace it and prepare for the next challenge".

* him laughing when a journalist says 50% of spurs fans want us to lose.

* him talking about not lying down and red carpet which he should have said prior to Woolwich...but nah 'mate' he doesn't.

* him telling the other reporter 'charlie' that he needs counselling because he mentioned social media when his own player not even a month or so back came out publically stating counselling saved his life.
ALL my posts are good, wtf!

Great post mate.

I understand that we all hate Woolwich but some on here seem to hate Woolwich more than they love Tottenham.

That paragraph above should make people think.

But its such a small chance at CL qualification. Again, we only have ourselves to blame, if we had won one more game and controlled our destiny I think it'd be more like 80/20 we want to win. But because we don't, its probably the other way around.

What are you saying?

do you even know?

This is all I said:

I didn't think he'd win a trophy, tbh I expected us to finish about 7th/8th so season has been a success in my eyes. Not sold on his tactics, don't think they'll work long term in the PL and he'll end up sacked and the rebuild starts again - which is on levy, not Ange.

I just think he's a pretty unlikeable bloke. He's very arrogant for someone who hasn't won anything in a big league (Neil Lennon won the same as him with Celtic) and think it's a bit rich for him digging out Spurs lack of silverware before he has even got to a 1/4 final.

Nobody said Ange had to come out and say we should lose, the majority of the criticism I am seeing towards him is how he spoke disrespectfully about the fans, the arrogance he was showing and his comments about counselling, all of which was unnecessary and showed a lack of understanding.
The Aussie part of him spoke in that interview, he needs think of this rivalry from the Greek perspective

A Chelsea fan just remarked to me: "That's the essential reason why Spurs don't win anything now - you just don't care enough about winning 'cos there always seems to be another priority for you as a club - and the fans exemplify this right now. Why don't you stop giving a fuck about other teams, and start caring more about winning something properly for the promising team and massive club that you are?"

Isn't this what Ange is actually saying? And isn't it how all the other big clubs that do win things actually think? Utd, L'pool, Chelski, Citeh, and those lot down the road....

Do you really define being a Spurs fan as sharing your view on the rivalry?

I can't decide whether Ange was just being clumsy (probably) or whether he actually wants to challenge a certain mentality in the fanbase.
Yes I do. The two go hand in hand , I wouldn’t entertain a conversation in real life with a spurs fan who doesn’t understand our rivalry with that lot.

You don’t feel it the same as us who get it, this is just a sports team you follow to those who don’t understand it, its more to us who do…
