TBF, Toney was shit last season. Signing a player in his late 20s, with character issues, coming off a shit season for a large fee sounds fucking ridiculous because it is ridiculous. In truth he's had 1 really good PL season in his career and 1 really good Championship season.

We need to sign a striker, 100%. But it shouldn't be Toney.

I don't have a problem with you saying he had a poor season last season but there are obvious mitigating circumstances because he hadn't trained for like 8 months or something like that, that's obviously going to affect rhythm and performances!

This is what I mean about people only really speaking about his deficiencies, yes he carries a risk factor but so does everyone else...every player on the transfer market has flaws, whether they're too young/inexperienced, whether they've never played in the Premier League, whether they've had 1 good season and nothing else to back it up with etc...

He was poor for sure, didn’t score at all from August to December

I have a feeling you are right about a #9. We will sign a versatile forward that can play all 3 positions IMO.

99.9% our starting front 3 for the start of the season will be Son, Richy, Johnson/Kulusevski

We wont buy what is required, that is for sure. It is why I'm relaxed if we get Toney. Out of all the strikers we have been linked with I think he is the most likely to bang in our team. However, we havent really been linked with any attackers by anyone reputable at all. Either they dont have a sniff of our targets or we arent that far down the line with anyone.

Johnson was always a 'work in progress', but Kulu is a real frustration. While he's not pacy, he's tricky and great with the ball at his feet. However, I've lost count of the number of times he's fucked a great counter by not getting his head up and reading the game. If we can get fix that, he's definitely good enough.

I think if we got a serious offer in for him we'd sell. That probably goes for 80% of our squad though.

Gio apparently played well for Argentina last night.

What an enigma he is. Such a strange player for us.

At least him playing well might help the fee we get

Obviously don’t agree on Toney but I’m with you on not expecting much in terms of forward signings.

Crazy to think there are so many forwards on the market and none of us have much faith that we will come out with an improved frontline by the end of the window. To the point where people have already resolved to squaring it with themselves if we sign Toney, a player not wanted by any the clubs we claim to be competing with.

We bought Sonny for 20m

VDV for 35m

Romero 40m

It can be done but it’s very hard and you also get some crud in the same price bracket.
Very difficult plucking a striker out the blue for a decent price now though. You can still do that with defenders and midfielders to a certain extent. Hojlund £70m having scored 10 goals in Serie A the season before, basically paying for potential. It looks a really slim list of potential targets if you want an out an out centre forward and if you want a good one you're looking at circa £70m.

Didn’t start playing till end of Jan. having been out for 8 months.

Most importantly, you play below your capacity and what other players have you got inside your tent as well?
Sounds like half our squad the last 6-7 years, he'll fit in nicely!
No Problem Reaction GIF

(Seriously tho, they didn't play below their capacity, they were'nt better)
