Yeah, there's more to it. But you win points based on scoring more goals than the other team. And when you play in a forward role 80% of your value is putting the ball in the net.Almost like it's never all about just g/a and that is hugely influenced by a shit load of context like staying fit, the team you play for, pure dumb luck...
Brennan Johnson's numbers make him look better than he was and Toney's make him look worse than he is, whereas his numbers the very season before probably made him look better than he is. Neither are bad or great footballers.
I was joking , he didn’t even play,Barely scored from Jan to May.
1449 MP
4 goals
2 assists
362 MP/G
He was shit.
Why are you pretending like the last 1449 of Toney's career didn't happen. This is the problem with most who want us to sign him - you're acting like it's June 2023 and he just came off a great season. 12 months on and he just put in a season that should leave him thankful he has a job in the PL at all.Giminez?
All the other names have never played Premier League football, all the other names have never played at a level as good as the Prem.
How many strikers have come into this league from weaker leagues and flopped, struggled or not hit the ground running from day 1
Nunez/Hoylund/Jackson/Gakpo all bought for relatively high fees in recent seasons and have all struggled to settle in.
I'm aware that there are exceptions to this rule like Isak and Haaland but then again Haaland is a complete outlier, guy's a freak of nature, Isak is a rare diamond.
I wouldn't say Toney is more than a risk than other players on that list at all, in fact what's the likelihood that Toney will regress, he has all the abilities to be a top striker in the right team, he can finish and create his own chances.
Like how many goals do you think Giminez is really scoring for that defensive Brentford team over the last few years? Do you genuinely see the likes of Gyokeres outscoring Toney if he played for Brentford over the last few years, come on be honest?
It probably won't. I really think these South Americans are way more keen to play for their country than their club and nothing will stop them trying to play. Didn't he get injured playing for Argentina and that kept him out of the WC?Always fit for Argentina. Apart from the World Cup of course. That’ll teach him

I do agree that neither are bad, nor great, footballers. But Johnson is 22 with a hell of a start to his career, he just may well end up great. Toney at 28 has authored 1 really good season. Therein lies the difference between them.
I struggled to parse it, too. I read it 5 times. I think it was the word' something':Ah ok. Read your post a few times and couldn’t get it. Either shite writing, or I may have had a stroke. Loud and clear this time.

I'd have no problem taking a bet that Gimenez and Gyokeres score more PL goals from this summer forward than Toney (assuming either of the 2 do ever land in the PL).
All the other names that have been touted. Gyokeres, Gimenez, Vlahovic, etc.
Toney was pretty good the season before his big season. Just in terms of actual footballer stuff more than numbers. And he was staggeringly good in the championship.
Johnson's numbers at Forest were so-so, as you'd expect. His numbers at Brentford would also be so-so, he didn't do anything last season for Spurs which made you think that no matter where he played, he'd be keeping this up.
Toney would score and assist plenty for us. Richarlison has an incredibly basic profile and he managed it last season after turning up for basically one good run. We funnel lots of chances to the front three and get them in lots of 1v1 situations.
Richy outperformed his xG last season and tbh he hardly missed a chance.
Toney has better link up play as a target man but there’s nothing to suggest he’d score more goals than Richy other than he’d likely be injured less.
I'd change it to that even if he doesn't have a stellar season!Tarquin Fin-tim-lin-bin-whin-bim-lim-bus-stop-F'tang-F'tang-Olé-Biscuitbarrel
It's from the Monty Python election sketch.

Sure there is. He scored 20 league goals for Brentford which is more than Richarlison has ever managed in his entire footballing career.
Toney holds the ball up better, his fundamentals are better (first touch, running with the ball etc) and he's just generally easier on the eye. Finishing wise neither are particularly good, Richarlison was decent last season in this regard but was behind xG the 3 seasons prior.
Toney would take penalties as its an asset he adds and I'd wager most would prefer to play alongside him as he can do the footballer stuff.
How many were penalties and free kicks?
Son would take penalties and Maddison or Porro on FKs
Toney is a lot better than Son at penalties. He would take them.
Dunno about free kicks but if its particularly many he'd probably take them as well.
Son is our captain only though sentiment. Should be Romero. Love son but too nice to be a captain...
