I'll clarify by what I meant as the "next Danny Ings" is that at 28 he's approximately the same place Danny Ings was.

At the age of 27, Danny Ings scored 22 with 2 assists in 2804 PL minutes with Southampton for a goal involvement every 117 minutes.

At the age of 26, Ivan Toney scored 20 with 4 assists in 2951 PL minutes with Brentford for a goal involvement every 123 minutes.

Richarlison's Shots on Target % and Shots on Target/90 are all significantly higher than any mark Toney has ever made in the PL. Richie's G/shot figure is also significantly better. And he's a year younger. Not that I think Richie is great - but why would we want a slightly older, slightly poorer model.

We need to sign someone younger and better than Toney. Toney will be playing for Boro in 3 years.

Danny Ings did his cruciate twice though and he was injury prone, he was always going to slow down, how does that even compare to Toney's injury history - missed a handful of games in his entire career.

Ings generally has been declining and Toney on the whole has been improving (last season was mitigating)

I take your point about Richy's shot conversion rate though, in fact Richy's first time shooting is really good but Toney's all round game is just better, holding up the ball, bringing others into play, creating his own chances, ariel dueling, through passing is just levels about what Richy can do as a footballer.

I did say Toney's age works against him though, hence why people don't want to sign him and that's cool, I just find the other disingenuous stuff people go at lengths to bring up about his ability and the cringey childish stuff about "non penalty goals" a bit silly.

Ings was an injury plagued pace merchant, there is context why he fell off a cliff.

You are wrong.

He made at least 232 bets he shouldn’t have - over one illegal bet a week. He bet on his own club 126 times and tried to conceal the bets he made. He lied about his betting when questioned.

During his ban, instead of taking full responsibility, he said that by stopping him from training, the FA did not care about his mental health.

Toney isn’t alone though; gambling is a problem in football.
I know he was prolific, and I know he didn’t take responsibility - my point is whether he was gambling big

Guy is a 6 I think. Meant to be very good.

That’s the 4th Stuttgart player we have been linked with now. Law of averages has to mean we are at least interested in one of them.

Spanish press is writing that Flick want him to Barca (Barca also needs a solid DM). As former Bayern head-coach, Flick will have first-hand info about him since Still was a Bayern player when Flick was there.

On Toney:

He’s not a prolific goal scorer and he’s not getting us anywhere near challenging for the title
I’m even thinking about taking a punt on someone like Kolo Muani who had a bad year at basket case PSG but has everything we need.

27 goals in 105 appearances in the Uber eats ya na 🤦‍♂️

Woolwich want to sign Marcus Edwards

A story from O Jogo in Portugal now reveals that Woolwich want to sign Sporting CP No.10 Marcus Edwards.

Tottenham allowed the man from Enfield to join Vitoria de Guimaraes on a free transfer back in September 2019 in exchange for 50% of any future sale, as detailed by the Telegraph.

Now – according to O Jogo – Sporting CP could sell Edwards after he fell out of favour under Ruben Amorim, with the Portuguese tactician not as trusting of the winger as he previously was, while Francisco Trincao has moved ahead in the pecking order.

Absolutely many are not in form. I just am not sure why anyone would advocate to get Toney in based on the last 12 months of his career.

I don’t want us to sign Toney. I think there are better options than him and that his age + price tag isn’t that attractive.

I do think he’s a good striker, better than Richarlison, and would probably do alright here. His form is likely due to a hugely disrupted season as a result of a ban. Playing CF at Brentford is a fucking hard job as well.
