Should have taken a punt on him at Hull.

Easy to say now of course but the signs were clearly there.

See also: Dani Olmo when he left Dinamo Zagreb. We were haggling over small change.

:ange-facepalm:
We are terrible at valuing players.

We do not know when to pay up and sometimes we decide to overpay like we did with Sess, Lo Celso, Ndombele and Jack Clarke. We signed the four players and had to release two of them, sold Jack Clarke for a loss and Lo Celso is for sale and none have played over 100 PL games.

Those two were definitely big misses.

So we were in for Can and Bowen. We weren't in for Olmo?
They are the three that "got away" this window for me.

Skills to be a manager are DIFFERENT from the skills to be a coach.

Not hard to understand.

Admit we are all clueless when it comes to assessing his skills as a COACH.

When? I never saw him play, except for a brief cameo against Liverpool where he would have scored*, and that game where he got injured within 5 mins. I thought his movement was good, though.

* If Liverpool hadn't scored against themselves first
Just thought instantly heavy footed and cumbersome

The fact he played 75 seconds in half a season for Sevilla is a concern

Bullet dodged then on Bowen. We can use the £150m to sign Isak instead.
We could have got him for a relative song as well.

I seriously don't want to pretend to be some ITK Iberian scout - I watch MUCH less Spanish football than I did say 15 years ago - but I'm pretty sure I pointed him out two seasons before Newcastle scoooooped, certainly the season before.

We should pay good attention to the yootdem in Basque teams, they keep coming up with top quality players (on other forums I talked about Alonso and Griezmann, both of whom went fairly cheap, both of whom turned into superstars). If I can see it it it can't be too hard.

Thing is is, neither Athletic nor Real Sociedad are piss poor - both are very well run, especially the former - and desperate to sell. They know they can wait, the players do too. I get the impression sometimes that we think they're all like Sevilla, Valencia or Rayo or whoever - skint, badly run, desperate to comply with strict FFP constricts.

I dont know what that proves. I'm talking about their fans.

Read their fans opinions of him in the responses to this.

But we're not bringing him in to be a manager so who cares about a fans opinions on his managerial ability?

You understand being a coach and being a manager are two completely different job roles, yeah?

Can you name me Guardiolas assistant manager? I imagine not. But if you can, how was his managerial career by chance? Any good?
