Yeah options are thin on the ground for sure but we need a solid rotation option for Richy. Go into the season without one and I bet we are all cursing it come Christmas.

Son is a famously streaky player with a sometimes terrible touch. When Son isnt scoring, there’s not much point to him. Same with Johnson.

Pretty mainstream view in the media.

Do you know any other 22 year olds with 13 goals and 13 assists?

If you need explaining what Son brings to the game over Brennen, frankly you're a lost cause.

For starters you should stop looking at G/A stats as if they're the be all. Take most of those Johnson goals - they're tap ins from two yards. Valuable, yes, but indicative of genuine ability, world class attributes, skills you can develop? No.

Go take a look at Son's first goal for Spurs. Age roughly 23, against Palace, takes the ball on the left, beats a man with a brilliant shimmy then smashes it low past the keeper. From that moment it was abundantly clear we had a real player on our hands.

How many times has Brennan done anything like that that? What did he do last year that made you think, wow this guy has some real ability?

How many of his assists last season were brilliant slide rule passes like Son made time and again, as opposed to low crosses into the box any two bit winger from the Championship can deliver?

Sometimes the game needs to be seen with your eyes and brain. Not behind spreadsheets and stats.

Son at 22 had 14 goals and assists for Leverkusan.
Next year for us he had 13 goals and assists.
Year after that he had 28 goals and assists.

Difference is Son is older and has had an explosion. I think it would be reasonable to give Johnson the time and admit that he can improve.

And for the final time - what does son offer when he’s not delivering end product?

It took Son until he was 25 to have a season as productive as Johnson has just had.

I also remember how there were question marks over whether Son would stay at the end of his first season.

So apart from goals and assist, you have given me nothing that Son really offers. I personally don’t care how people get their goals and assist. Give me ugly goals and assists if there are consistently more of them. You don’t get extra points for a shimmy

I also laugh a little at the idea only the English press and fans are hard on their players. Was at 'home' with the Mrs in Milan as the Italians went out to the Swiss.....Lol even the broadsheets went for them, it got very heated. Italians don't like losing at Uno to the Swiss.
