Re Doue - I asked my French pals (mostly PSG, Lyon or Monaco fans) to speak to their own entourage, see if there was any Stade Rennais afficionados in there.

A few have come back to me. Overall consensus is:

- kid is bloody exciting to watch...he picks up the ball, you feel something's gonna happen that lifts you off your seat
- he's got mad tekkers, speed, can play all kinds of passes, knows where the goal is...can play LW, RW, AM or even as an 8
- plenty upside and if he keeps developing the way he's been since making the 1st team, he could end up as Rennes' best ever export...and almost as big a star as Mbappe for the NT (unless he opts to play for Ivory Coast)

But they also said that:

- it'd be mad for any top club to spend any more than 25 mil on a kid who to date hasn't even started 30 league games and who's averaged about 50 ish min pg...knowing he's got next to no squat European experience
- he's not that great a crosser and doesn't get that many touches, gives the ball away a lot...but I guess all dribbling machines do
- he looks far from being physical enough for the PL

So my view is, if we can't get a Nico Williams or someone else who's already elite and PL-ready, yeah by all means give that kid a shot cause the balance is positive. But no way we should pay a penny over 30 mil incl bonuses.

I agree with this. Plus some of the defending I have seen up against him doesnt look great. Not saying the PL is amazing defensively. BUT, I love a get us off our seats type of player. We deserve a couple of those after having a few years of utter boredom.

I’ve been wondering in the last few days whether Eze was a smokescreen for Doue?

Doue is the profile they seem to want. Profile seems to be the most talented teenagers in Europe that aren't already at a mega club.

Part of me think Daniel Levy would have always been up for this kind of policy but never had a manager that would indulge it to this extent by signing off on so many youngsters...

Will it work? Fuck knows

Do we need more established players? Almost certainly yes

Will we enjoy watching them not give a fuck whilst they dribble round anyone and everyone? fuck yes

I wonder if we are happy with our defensive cover now that Gray is in the door or if the rumoured LB/LCB is still on the cards.

After Ange finally relented and played VDV at LB we do have a really good option if Udogie is out. Also, given how technically sound he is, I don't see why Gray couldn't provide cover at LB as well as RB.

The inverted role is really just about taking care of the ball in tight spaces, having a good engine and driving forward. It's not like Udogie is whipping in balls from the left constantly.

LCB is a bit of concern as Dragusin looked good out of position with VDV at left back for cover but not sure it would work as well with Udogie next to him.

Exactly! I'm here for it.

As that article about watching England said: "We know how it ends, we just want to feel something in the meantime".

Weird, because Starks said Doue is world class and basically a Bale regen.

If you had to pick between Doue for £35m and Eze for £65m this summer, which would you pick? Assume we'd invest that spare £30m on other signings.
Eze for me. Just think we need a few to hit the ground running, we have plenty of talented youngsters. Keep banging the drum but we need first team players for first game onwards. Eze only 25, so its hardly signing Perisic.

I'm all for trying to build a winning metality, and I even appreciate a business having a vision and values but signing first team players based on this is too far Ange.

Destiny, Desire, who's next? Any up and coming players called Passion?

He already has faded into the background the whole of last season. Anybody who thinks Skipp is better than Hojbjerg is sniffing glue.
I know of a number of people who think that. Trying to avoid sounding like a broken record but it’s really a case of them not being utilised to their respective strengths. The one game I recall Skipp playing at the base was Everton at home and I thought he was solid and his passing was more conducive to the way we play compared most of Hojbjerg’s starts there
