For all you Neto obsessives:

For the record I do think he's a good player. But they really aren't great stats - 3 goals in 3 years? For a guy whose hamstrings are made of paper and who Wolves want £60m for?

Of course football isn't all about G/A but that really is a worryingly low output.

NO SAVES?????

Also, whenever I’ve seen Neto for Wolves, he’s benefitted from their style which is to sit deep but break quickly with a lot of runners. This means he often has space to run into and can often just run past players. He does look great for them.

At Spurs, he’ll play against a lot more low blocks so will have much less space and he’ll have to do his stuff in tighter spaces.

For Portugal he has struggled to get minutes and make an impact against teams that (I assume) play more defensively and give less space than he is accustomed to at Wolves.

Not saying he can’t adapt, but for the fee we’ll have to pay for him, we need to be sure he’ll still be a stand-out player against more defensive teams.

This whole thing of one more forward or two is pretty much an identical reporting pattern to the CB search last summer.

Think we have all known since early on that one forward is the most likely outcome and up front is where Ange gets left short.

Of course. It’s the one area where he’s repeatedly said we need to be better. Too much desire and ambition for us that though.

And this makes total sense, really. How dare Bayern & PSG unsettle L & L's plans by untimely coming with bids when Spurs are not ready yet even though they've been linked to Doue for more than a season now.
For example, it's holiday season now so Spurs may be short of staff , and L & L also wanna save money by doing just 1 deal at a time, so both Bayern & PSG should play it fair and wait for the right time for Spurs also to muster a bid - even if it takes a few seasons...

I did say we haven’t moved on this yet ! Been focusing elsewhere as timing was key with another deal we are working on currently

Him playing in tight spaces is exactly why we'd buy him because he fits the profile. He's absolutely elite 1v1 as well as being brilliant technically. Something we don't have and have needed for years. Even more so under Ange.

It's why we've been linked with Eze, Neto and Doue. Because of their ability to keep hold of the ball well, but also their ability to beat a man with ease, open the game up and move it forward.

He has struggled for minutes for Portugal the exact same reason the likes of Eze and Cole Palmer have struggled to game time for their countries. And it's got nothing to do with opposition set ups.

It doesn't even have to be Neto we sign, but it's promising that we're starting to look at players who fit. Wouldn't mind actually bidding and trying to bring those sort of players in

The wingers in our system get an incredible amount of space because our full backs are tucked in so it's not so much breaking down low blocks for the wingers, it's more about their 1v1 skills as they are always often isolated 94th percentile for progressive take ons.

Neto is actually a good example of a player we should be targeting it's just that his injury history is so poor, it puts me off especially at that price.

Would be worth the risk if we could do it for £25m + another £25m add ons (appearances and trophies) but I doubt Wolves would accept
