How Dry should our Powder be?

That just tells me it's easier to score in other European leagues. Therfore, buy with caution.

Especially with strikers. It's why I've had one foot on the Toney train just to tide us over. If we can pick him up for £30/40 million then it is worth it while we wait and see what other strikers do next season. Granted it is a risk, because if Solanke goes and bangs in another 19 goals next season he will be more money. However, we will then know he is a safer bet. Plus what if he is a better being at a smaller club. Mentally that might be his level? That is the scouting we need to do as much as his on pitch performances.

What actually is ambition though?

Is it spending money? The right player? Age? All three? Reputation? What?

What's more important?

Backing a manager with a player he thinks is the perfect for for his team (regardless of money) or signing players who may be considered ambitious but not a particularly good fit overall (Ndombele)

Seems to me like no matter what, fans won't be happy regardless.

"settling for mediocrity"

He scored NINETEEN goals in the top flight of English football last season.

How many Spurs players have achieved that in the last 30 years?

I reckon if Romanos report replaced the name Solanke with Toney, the reaction would be alot different.
Trying to finish as high up the table as possible and aggressively recruiting the best players within your means to do so.

By that definition, we are unambitious.

Yes young Will could save us a bob or two. I really don’t see how he can be that much worse although maybe not quite ready than Rich and solanke. After all how difficult is it to tap in goals from within 3 yards😀
That is what everyone keeps saying is what we need bcos that is Ange’s system.
Actually it is quite difficult to be a tap in striker. Most strikers can't play high enough to be able to do it.

Ambition is subjective. You can only judge a player from what you've seen and Solanke has never stood out. A good season but as you mentioned yesterday Patrick Bamford had a good prem season, Marcus Rashord 2 years ago, Callum Wilson... going back further i remember Marcus Stewart and Michael Ricketts. For what its worth i dont think the reaction would be great amongst Tottenham fans if we were linked with 28 year old Watkins for £70m+ .

I mean when you say 'stood out' what are you exactly expecting a striker who had a 1 in 2 conversion rate at Bournemouth to actually do?

Let's hope we dont fuck up who we loan him to like we usually do with our youth loans.
Why we looking to loan him out. He great stats from last season and will be 20 next year. There are tons of players with other teams given chances in first team / squad. I’m sure Saka was young. Manure mainoo played for England in Euro final , Liverpool youngster, etc.
we have who who just want to loan our players out for “development”. No he has earned the right to be given an opportunity to be part of our first team squad otherwise what is the point. His development will be better at spurs than some champo club who may or may not play him. Love it when just want discard any of our own no wonder we bring so few through as their opportunities are always blocked by some average player we over paid for.
So we have been linked with Ramsey who is only 23 himself but has been playing for Villa for about 4/5 years. Why spend money on him rather than give donley a chance?

Where would he play though? For AM he's competing with Maddison, Kulusevski, and Bergvall. I don't think he's going to play LB in the PL.

I haven't read anywhere that Solanke is the number 1 target, just that we've looked at him. I'm sure we've looked at a handful, Solanke just the one being reported on today. Tomorrow it'll be someone else.

Perhaps it's a smokescreen to get Brentford to lower their price instead of losing him for zilch.

FWIW I don't mind Solanke, he's fast, strong and gets about. He's not world class, but the market on world class forwards is drier than a nun. Gyokeres would be my first choice, but at the rumoured £80m buy out clause, it's not likely.
