2 weeks to the Leicester game. Even though I expected a shit window, even I thought we’d have at least one new starter in the side but now I’ll be astounded if we do. It’s so quiet and has been for weeks.
If we have no player join for starting 11 and that first game goes a bit petevting the away fans will be giving it to levy big time. Although I still maintain surely Munn is also culpable as he is head football ops. He knows what Ange wanted and hasn’t delivered as far as we know for the club to sign off on.

The club has been monitoring Johnson for a couple of years, Paratici apparently watched him on numerous occasions, all before Ange arrived. Yes Ange said he chose to approve Johnson, but he didn't negotiate the fee with Forest and we dint know what alternatives he was presented with. Johnson may have been the best of a bad bunch

Maddison was the same. The club have been after him for years since his Norwich days, but last season it seems Levy got lucky with Maddison having one year left in his contract and Leicester were relegated so had no choice to sell for a reasonable fee.

We are not a club where the manager demands and then gets who he wants. He sets out the type of profile he wants and then the club searches and scouts potential options.
But we got MADDs in well early. Johnson was last day job at inflated price. So someone at the club must have pushed for it. To me that must have been Ange otherwise he could have said let’s leave it for now.

But last year Maddison was the Eriksen replacement we've desperately needed for years!

He was incredible before the injury and pedestrian after. Like basically our entire squad, it was a tale of 2 halves last season.

Worryingly, if you had to place a bet I'd wager that has more to do with the common denominator - Ange.
Unfortunately the whole season hinged on Maddison, when he was good we were good and when he was bad we were pretty bad too. We definitely need another player that can pass like him as cover. Maybe Bergvall can be that player.

Ok Wise Guy. What about buying Solanke for 65 million do you rate as a good buy.

Roma bought Artem Dovbyk for +-38 million Euro. (One of the top goal scorers in La Liga)

Same as the Johnson Buy. We spent 50 million on him when Woolwich spent R25 million on Trossard.

Sorry but buying Solanke will not take us to league winning form. I suppose some drool at every player we linked with.

Honestly, I don't obsess about the fee like some.

Most of the best players we have seen play in the last 15/20 years have not been expensive and a lot of the expensive ones have been shite.

For me it is all about fit for the system and can they cut it in the prem.

Solanke ticks both of those boxes.... I don't particularly want to spend time for a striker to adjust to the pace and physicality of the league and whilst Dovbyk had a great season, who knows how long it will take him to get going here.

Genuine question would you rather pay 65m on Solanke.

Or 80m on Gyokeres

I’d prefer neither but if it had to be one it would be Solanke. Although he could be one of those players that does batter at a smaller club given he sunk under the enormity of going to Liverpool. Where it was another data bod in Michael Edwards etc who picked him up. Does he show well in the metrics over what’s on the pitch. I probably need to watch his goals again to see. I do remember one game where we beat Bournemouth where he was really good and should have scored against us. He looks dangerous in the box and of course has had a good upbringing in the chavs academy. He should be good.

Although all summer (and even last) I wanted Toney in to replace Kane. I just think he does all kinds of finishes when you watch his goals and he’s very clinical.

I just don’t trust buying goals from the Portuguese league. Midfielders fine, but not strikers. It’s a bit like how I am unsure of buying attackers from France, the defending looks so bad.

We seem to have the same problems we had at the end of the season. No back up to VDV unless you count Davies, no back up to Udogie, although Ange tried several options during preseason. Maybe we have sorted the back up to Maddison. I cannot see these problems will be dealt with as we need all our resources to sort the lack of fire power up front.
I have seen more hopeful reports that we will get someone in but with no pre season with Ange will it be after the International break in September that we start to see him functioning as Ange wants.

Sometimes when we play a bottom half PL team we come up against a good striker and I wonder how they got him, ( afforded him). VDV was unknown to me and has turned out a very good buy. Our Scouts should be able to find someone that fits the bill and he should be here now.

Solanke and Abraham are tremendously similar in terms of record , Solanke with some 270 games with 85 goals Abraham with 320 games and 127 goals.

Abraham is better aerially and a very good poacher , Solanke is better technically and a harder worker.
There is little between them ability wise but Abraham has just returned from an ACL injury. I would buy Abraham at £20m and spend the other £45m elsewhere.

Abraham is a poacher, when I’ve watched him he’s nowhere near as well rounded for touch, hold up play, passing or link up with teammates

Still suspect it will be Ramsey. Part ex for GLC

Need convincing of him, been injured quite a bit and wasn’t always that impressive when I watched him but don’t know enough. Didn’t stand out like how Ugarte or Ederson did but again just the eye test.

I get Onana is divisive but he is hyper energy, if we are looking to hold a press, win a battle and cover ground he would have been decent. That was a good signing by Villa.
