This will get many disagrees but I’m not at all convinced Julian Alvarez is a better striker than Dominic Solanke in 2024. Obviously has great potential but I haven’t loved what I’ve seen from him. He's on astronomical wages as well and imo wouldn’t want to come here but that’s not even the point.

His physical presence is really poor, he don’t hold up the ball well, he can’t lead the line and also doesn’t play on the wing properly. His strengths align with a rich man’s Jermain Defoe
you must really rate solanke then if your name is jdefoe and alvarez is a rich mans defoe....

Fully agree

Tbh I’d have trusted Defoe to finish chances more than I trust Alvarez.

If we signed Alvarez he’d have gone the way of Sergei Rebrov. Sexy name but not really up to much

My worthless take on Solanke…. He’s a bit old for 65m, but if Lankshear is the future, I think we should sign Solanke play him for a couple years and then see if we can get 30m for him. Lankshear costs nothing so that leaves a net spend around 35m for Solanke. If we sell Richy this window or the next it’s even better business

Tough read last few pages with all the cunt offs and all the debate about “ambition”, who’s good and who’s shit.

I’ve deliberately refrained from posting over the last month or so because you can only really judge a window when it’s closed (or when the season starts at a push).

There’s still time to go, but I think whether you’re Shadydan Shadydan or Tottenham Massive Tottenham Massive , we can all agree that 2 quality attacking players is a minimum requirement , and 3 should be what we want as fans.

All season, every cunt from ENIC in to ENIC out has astutely observed our lack of attacking quality and how it’s impacted our overall performance. To buy any less than 2 first teamers than can challenge in that area would be mismanagement.

Hopefully we all agree on that….

It’s been frustratingly slow thus far but let’s hope the next couple of weeks have more positivity in store for us. It’s too early to start throwing toys out the pram.

If we don’t make substantial improvements to the front line it’s going to be a rally really frustrating season though, the window is clearly not good enough thus far.

NB - for me Eze, a winger who can fucking beat a man and a CF would have me very very positive going into the season. It’ll be costly but it’s not beyond reality if we do want to be ambitious.
Great post.

Not too impressed with being bracketed alongside Shadydan Shadydan but other than that refreshing to read a good, honest appraisal from a bona-fide, well respected middle grounder when it comes to Levy / ENIC on our transfer window thus far

If signing someone for a few seasons until Lankshear is ready is the plan, then I think Toney is the better option. Cheaper and more short term upside.

Tottenham Massive Tottenham Massive for the 4th time.... why do you agree with this statement?

What is about Solankes ability that you don't think is up to snuff? What could he improve on?

Which games outside of playing Spurs, did you see him play and could you give us a tactical analysis?
Ok Wise Guy. What about buying Solanke for 65 million do you rate as a good buy.

Roma bought Artem Dovbyk for +-38 million Euro. (One of the top goal scorers in La Liga)

Same as the Johnson Buy. We spent 50 million on him when Woolwich spent R25 million on Trossard.

Sorry but buying Solanke will not take us to league winning form. I suppose some drool at every player we linked with.

Yeah mate I know, I meant to clarify in my post.

My bad
Pichichi is the one who scored the most goals, it don't matter how many were pens.
But my point still stands.. the next top scorer was Bellingham.... Not a traditional no. 9

After that Lewendowski(elite, but past his prime) you get my point, there's a growing pattern

Budimir after them.( No one knows who he is)

It's like this across the top 5 leagues.

Experience forwards have a place in the game

Solanke is a lot younger than these guys and playing in the prem and doing well

It seems at least everyone (fans to the club) is aware that the team can't afford to go into the season with the same forwards as the last. Solanke and a proper upgrade on either wing is a decent start, if they can get it done. I'd expect by this time next season they'll be needing to move on at least two or three of these guys, unless there's a huge increase in form.
