Couple of those threads should probably die permanently, especially Wold Politics and Broken Britain.
Just a thought but a solution could be to remove any offense thread and keep the good stuff. Then remove the ability to create a new off topic thread to the users.

I don't know how difficult or time-consuming that would be for the Admins.

Then we could keep the movie, music, made me laugh and NSFW (asking for a friend) threads and the like.

Edit: Then if a new thread should arise worth adding the user could ask admin to add it to the list

Yeah I don't really visit the contentious ones but by the sounds of it, some have gotten way out of hand.

Lots of 'brave' big men hiding behind their keyboard it seems.

#prayforwoodyspur though
You're hardly blameless for Off Topic being removed last night. 👍🏻

Hopefully it returns soon as there's a lot more good than bad located within it.

Anyway, thankfully the return of the season isn't far away.

A real shame regarding Off Topic. I learn a lot from our American friends in the American politics thread and trust what they say a hell of a lot more than what I read in the media. I will miss the movie and gaming threads too:adesalute:

I'm not entirely surprised. Broken Britain got shut down so the racism just shuffled over to the politics thread, if that was shut down then it would have been the woke thread (if that's still a thing).

Some genuinely horrible stuff being posted this last week and that's coming from someone who got kinda used to being abused on the world politics thread.

Hopefully it's temporary but I get it.

I logged off when we got to the point where some people were damn close to calling for an all-out race war/civil war (something along the lines of "you'll be up against 45 million angry white people").

I was thinking of jacking the whole thing in, it was profoundly depressing.

As others have said, it's a shame to lose the US thread, which was hugely informative, the TV and film stuff, even the World Politics, which despite very different views being expressed was by and large pretty civil most of the time.

Plenty of other stuff, as others have mentioned.

Like you say, it's perfectly understandable and hopefully temporary.

It will be back, I'd just reached breaking point.

The vast majority of the time I spend moderating the site stems from social/political threads, and I'm sick of it. There are little groups within the forum who are constantly arguing, and it spills into other areas of the site. These people will probably never discuss Spurs with each other (you know, the whole purpose of this site) because they know each other's political leanings.

A decent member has already left this week (Tottenham Sean). Others have emailed expressing that they are close to doing the same, and I expect we've lost a few others who have left without mentioning it. I'm struggling to see the benefit of allowing that kind of discussion here.

I don't know what the solution is. It feels like you either allow it or you don't. At the moment, I'm definitely on the side of not allowing any sort of political discussion. I'm sure it would still crop up, which brings its own moderating headaches, but at least having a clear stance on it lets people know it will either be shut down or they will be booted. As is always the case with these sorts of things, it's a shame for those who can engage in balanced discourse, but I'm not here to cherry-pick who should or shouldn't be allowed to express their views on these topics.

Thank you

I suppose it’s a good opportunity for some slates to be wiped clean and for us all to move on as a fan base!

I’m willing

Admin Admin - has the main Olympics thread gone too? I can’t find it in search though I can see the (almost-redundant) Olympics Football thread).

Thanks.
