Player Alejo Veliz

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Good luck to him.

Given the absolute state of Spurs’ striking options it’s actually brave of the club to move him on, stupid of the club to move him on or there is another option coming in soon for the first team.

Probably the second option.

Agree. good luck to him.

Based upon the last year or so Lankshear has looked better as a striker than Veliz both in the preseason games (a total of 4 goals scored versus one by Veliz and one by Scarlett), and Lankshear scored 34 goals last season as top u21 scorer in England as well as PL2 player of the year - couldn't have done better in youth football,

So not that brave to move Veliz out on loan when we seem to have a more inform young striker available who will not take up a UEFA squad place.

With respect; you replied by my OG 1 liner with 3 paragraphs.

I just maintain that dangling players like carrots is not a good idea. It can blow up in our face for more than one reason; whilst conversely, it is a low % chance of working in the manner you suggest.

The archetypal good loan that everyone cites here is Skipp/Norwich >>>>> No option to buy required.
My 3 paragraph response was an honest, good faith effort to further explain my original post that you seemingly misunderstood with your 1 line.

The bolded is a understandable rebuttal to my original post, the rest of the nonsense I omitted is unnecessary, wind up material.

I think the fact we’ve just sent the same player to the same league and to a team with a similar goal for the season doesn’t exactly bode well for the player personally. I hope to be proved wrong but I have my doubts.

I was really hoping he’d find a loan within England.

Surprised we couldn't get him a Championship loan. He was never going to play in the PL.

The main thing is that he can get 20-25 starts in La Liga and make a strong impact to up his value.

I always thought he looked a real handful in the few minutes he had for us. Not very technical and a bit on the slow side but he is a unit.

Let's see how it goes.

But looking at the past track record, I am extremely sceptical. I believe that such loans to foreign league are total fuckups. Yea, I agree that he does not seem physically weak and thus would need English-league-system-toughening-up, but there is so much more to leagues. Like getting better sense of how football is played. To feel comfortable when people around you speak in English... and so on and so on.

Right now he is just shipped to foreign league that has fuck all to do with the league where we play and wish for him to have a breakthrough.

I see on plan and logic and long-term view with him. And cannot repeat enough - last year he was shipped out when we had massive issue with striker position.. could have played much more staying with us.

Hopefully this loan goes better for him, there's a few things off the bat that will make it much easier for him than it was at Sevilla; he's not joining injured, he's in the door before the season starts and he's joining a club that came up from the Segunda, as opposed to Sevilla who, though finishing 12th the season prior had also won the Europa league, so much higher expectations for the season. If he can play most games and bag 10-12 goals he might get brought back into the fold and used as a rotation striker, especially if Richy does move on in the next 12 months.

It was a domino effect.......... The cock-up was playing Scarlett in that one Lg Cup game.

Think he gets good minutes for them this season Martin Braithwaite was the main no.9 last season and has since left the club.

If he doesn't cement himself as a starter atleast for an extended period, I think it might be a cause for concern

Tottenham’s Alejo Véliz has suggested he pushed to leave the club this summer and secure a loan move to Espanyol.

The striker has been speaking at a press conference alongside fellow summer signings Alex Král and Irvin Cardona, with his comments relayed by Mundo Deportivo.

The youngster has joined the Spanish side on loan until the end of the season after something of a frustrated time at Tottenham so far.

He joined Spurs in a €15m deal from Rosario Central in August 2023 but has only made eight appearances for Tottenham so far and 45 minutes in total.

That saw him head out to Sevilla on loan in the January transfer window, but that loan deal also failed to see him takeover, with him managing just six appearances and 31 minutes in total.

He’s now headed to Espanyol in the hope of establishing himself as their first-choice striker and getting the minutes he’s been craving for the last year.

The deal does not include an option to make it permanent, but Véliz is determined to ensure he leaves a good impression nonetheless, after pushing his agents to make the move happen.

“Wearing the number ‘9’ doesn’t put pressure on me. It’s a very important number for everything it entails, but I feel ready and eager to get started now,” he said.

“Since my agents told me that this possibility existed, I told them to push hard because I wanted to come here.

“The first thing Manolo told me was that he saw me as a reference striker, hungry and willing to fight, which is what he wants in the team. From where I’ve been placed, I’ll try to give it the best of myself.”
