Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

What’s really interesting - and dawning on me after reading through the thread here - is how it’s becoming possible to see proper tactical variation emerging for the way we set up now. Same playing approach I’m sure - speedy attacking football - but different team shapes now really an option. Three at back - Cuti, Drag, Micky - and a front 2 of Son/ Solanki with a conventional 10 in Madders or Kulu and then width from wing backs. Or four at back with attack-minded full-backs and two wingers with midfield of two 8s plus a holding 6. Or a midfield diamond.
Gradually we’re getting quality depth and new players are bringing quality in various roles - Gray and Bergvall can play several positions well etc.
Hopefully it means Ange can set up well against different opposition shapes and do what Pep has long been able to, adapt team shape without compromising quality. Don’t know enough about Leicester to accurately say how we best set to beat them, and we’ve not seen a back 3 so far at all in pre-season, but reading the thread here suggests to me plausible options are now really emerging.

Nah mate, I thought Ange was just: "Plan A or no plan!"

I couldn't agree with you more... I think the reason we appeared to only have one way of playing last season was the players we still had either weren't versatile or good enough to play another way...

Ange strikes me as someone who loves versatility, and he's now assembling a squad who can not only play in different positions, but not at the expense of quality.

Case in point, Royal and Davies (bless them) COULD play in 2 different positions... but the drop off on quality was glaringly obvious!

Then take the likes of Bergwall and Gray, two players brought in BECAUSE they're adaptable, but with the same ability to swap positions on the park... That's the difference.

In Kulu, Son, VDV, Porro, Sarr and Maddison, I'd like to think they can be fluid, and not get stuck to just one position...

Funnily enough, Solanke seems to be the one position specialist we now have (but obviously needed!)

I think we'll see Plans B & C make appearances more often next season...

If we are going off pre season performances and accepting Solanke will probably need to start you’d almost get:

Vicario
Porro Romero VDV Udogie
Gray Bentancur Bergvall
Kulusevski Solanke Moore/Werner

Bergvall must start but we all know he won’t and if Richarlison is fit he must play instead of Son and again he won’t because we are now learning that Angeball is very limited in his perception on how to set up the team.

Son - Kulusevski - Johnson

Bergvall - Bentancur - Sarr

Udogie - van de Ven - Romero - Porro

Vicario
Austin, Spence, Dragusin, Gray, Bissouma, Maddison, Moore, Werner, Solanke

Think Maddison will start because he will have something to prove against his old team.
One of Gray or Bergvall as well. More likely Gray I think. Deki in place of Johnson, who has been poor, with Solanke up front.

Yeah I think that's about right.

Madders will play well cos it's Leicester, but will get carded in the first half because he lets them get under his skin, and he'll get hooked at half time for Berg in the interests of keeping 11 on the pitch.

To be fair to Maddison he doesn't seem to be the kind of player that giver too much importance to pre-season games, so he will start and I expect him to play a lot better then he played in the friendlies. Sarr is out of his depth and I think Rodrigo is a better option by now. Udogie may not start if he's not 100% tough.
