Especially in this system.

But honestly mate we are discussing this because none of us can work out what logic (if there fucking is any) the club are following in this window.

We are all trying to work out we are suddenly linked to 8’s who have been available all summer and wtf we are going to do now that Doue and Neto are off the table despite being our most consistent links.

I’m looking for positives but it smells of shit show in relation to the plan they actually had.
It seems like Doue and Neto were Ange's 1st and 2nd choice wingers and that Gallagher or Ramsey was his preferred midfielder choice. Moving to the 3rd or 4th choice doesn't look so enticing.

No. January when the deal was agreed

Yeah, he signed after the January window.

Right lol, As we can't decide, I've checked what the internet says....

Looks like everyone is saying his transfer is part of our summer 2024 transfer window

While I'm looking, is seems there's been a lot of confusion about Porro and Kulusevski?

Technically, that is correct, because Porro was signed on loan in January with an obligation in July.

Kulusevski is definitely correct, as we had him on a loan with an option, that turned into an obligation if we qualified for the CL, which we didn't. We had the choice to take up the 35m option, which we technically didn't even activate as we negotiated a 25m deal after.

Concerns me how many people genuinely thought the club would be after a right winger.

The club has literally spent something like £90m on RW in the last 18 months on an 24 year old and a 23 year old and people think that they’re gonna go again this summer?

I said at the time Werner WAS the versatile winger. Just because people don’t like it, doesn’t mean it’s any less true.
We still have Yang to come in January.

Johnson is indeed young and has potential to improve with age.

Personally I think we were too quick to take Werner back on loan and it makes me wonder if his resigning has made us potentially have no room for a better option.

I think Werner back on loan makes sense in the context of cover until Yang arrives in January. Then we will have Yang to understudy Son, and Moore to put pressure on Johnson, with Solomon and Kulu as additional depth.

A super-dribbly winger signing would have been nice but seems unlikely now. But the question remains, how do we unpick a low block without a dribbly winger?

Been thinking about the RW sitch overnight. I still can’t see us spending money on that position after buying three other right wingers in the last 18 months, and with the likes of Moore knocking on the first team door - BUT - if we were to do any sort of business in that area, the best option I can find is Raphinha.

Would he leave Barca? Sounds like he wouldn’t be massively keen, but rumours are he’s been put up for sale and Barca REALLY need to sell and have interest in Reguilon and have even sniffed around Lo Celso in the past . . .

✅ He proved during his time at Leeds in Bielsa’s system that he is more than capable at being part of a forward line that presses aggressively.

✅ He’s left footed and likes to take on his man in 1 vs 1 situations and is lightning quick.

✅ Has Premier League experience under his belt.

✅ Scored as many goals in his last season (9) at Leeds in the EPL as Neto managed in 5 seasons combined.

✅ Has a cool name. 😂

So in conclusion, I can’t wait for another season of watching Johnson smash the ball over everyone’s heads and out for a throwing multiple times a game.

It seems like Doue and Neto were Ange's 1st and 2nd choice wingers and that Gallagher or Ramsey was his preferred midfielder choice. Moving to the 3rd or 4th choice doesn't look so enticing.

It’s been the same for every spurs manager for the last two decades though. I’ve little sympathy with them if they moan and have a strop because they should be well away of how (frustratingly) we are and have been run. Plus he’ll be told he got his first choice in Solanke so will have to suck it up.

So what does everyone think we actually need in order of importance?

After working out that we only fielded our best defence 17 times last season and that *most* of our losses actually happened WITHOUT Udogie, it stresses the need for depth at LB.

Personally I think we need:

LB
RW
C/AM
GK
LCB
LW

In that order.

LB as discussed. Whilst Spence maybe seen as an option, having someone that can do the role to a decent standard is crucial. Many times we had to field Emerson at LB...

RW although I actually think Johnson did well, I suspect he's stronger against "weaker" teams or as an impact sub. Someone to compete with him - especially since Deki has no pace and seems to be looking to play centrally.

C/AM whilst we think we need a "6", Ange seems to want a pressing monster or a box to box player. I don't get the hype with Eze but I think we will need a solution to the Maddison problem if his form doesn't upturn.

GK we could play 69 games this season if we go all the way in every competition. Fraser Forster is not the one, and I'm not sure Austin is either.

LCB Micky is absolutely crucial to how we play. Davies is obviously seen as able to play there but he's at the end of his career.

LW Sonny will likely revert there and we have Werner on loan. But this will need to be addressed sooner rather than later.

What does everyone else think?
