Then why help the pile on to make Ange the next scapegoat when he had a very promising start to life here until things like the 3rd CB he asked for left him drastically short and stretching his squad into burnout?

People are positioning themselves to cope, seen is all over social media as well, a number of our fans are expecting him to be sacked and are just waiting for the outcome, makes them feel better and more acceptance if it does actually happen I guess.

That said if he doesn't fix our glaring weakness which is set pieces and we keep conceding from them then he's going to come under a lot of pressure which could lead to his downfall, we can't ignore it now he has to fix them otherwise we will be going nowhere.

I personally think he will eventually fix them but what I saw against Bayern was pretty concerning.

Ange gets a free pass from me unless the football is turgid week after week and we are getting fisted.
I saw enough green shoots early doors last year when we were playing some good stuff and getting results. Then the wheel fell off and we couldn’t manage injuries/suspensions and players struggling for form after injuries/suspensions.
The alternative is to call for Ange’s head, Levy duly obliges and installs the next one who probably won’t have the players he needs for his own style.
Before and since Poch (Redknapp years aside) it was a never ending conveyor belt of managers and an unfunny joke. We need to strap in with Ange and see if Levy gives him the tools to do the job.

Free pass is a bit strong for me but he's got my full support an patience. I'd give him as much patience as Klopp got for Liverpool. I don't think it will take him that long to show he's worth the support though.

It's not that i don't think Ange needs us to improve at set pieces or concede less. It's that I don't want our OWN FANS fixated on our weaknesses. Every team has weaknesses they need to improve on but not to the point of losing sight of what your project is all about. We wanted, no we demanded, front foot attacking football and that is what Ange's whole project is about delivering. Now there are fans complaining we aren't conservative enough. There are different ways to win. We just need to stick with the way WE have chosen and have the belief and backbone to stick to it, even if it has a couple of weaknesses to address.

Of course you can when Stellini was mainly picking the same 11 and playing the exact same tactics. It was Conte's project continued by his assistant. Tbh the way the squad turned on Conte, the results probably would have been worse.
Not at all. The squad was mainly shit, Conte had done well to get us 4th in his first part season and then again BEFORE he left.

Are you going to blame any poor results Conte had in his first season onto Nuno?

EXACTLY my point.

It's so obvious that the more support for Ange and the squad, the more pressure there is on Levy and the board to back him with the quality of players he needs. It's basic leverage.
Personally I think all of the pressure you want exerted on the board for Ange would have been better utilised when Conte was in charge.
After all, unlike Ange, he was a proven winner at the very highest level. Why couldn’t he have gone on to also win with us with the right backing?
Of course I want Ange to be backed. 100% I do. But I'm also pretty sure if or when results go down the toilet it'll be him the vast majority of fans turn against and it'll be him that pays the price.

Why not keep the pressure on the board for both?

My opinion is that Ange is way more likely to succeed here than Conte ever was and is much less limited tactically but I’d want the board pressured to give them both what they need if they decide to appoint them .

Conte needed 3 top class CBs and back ups to play his system, they gave him Lenglet on loan.

Fine but fans will be fans, when there's a narrative that's been set because of our own ineptitude in defending set pieces and let's be honest it's a fair one then people will always focus on it.

You remember any Liverpool fans fixated on Klopps weak points? They were there but that fan base is more fanatical.

I was no fan of Conte ball but I still remember it starting his first full season picking up results and then all of a sudden this “unsustainable” narrative formed and it was Spurs fans doing more to push it than any of our rivals. These things seap into the cracks of projects.

Fortunately I think Ange is string enough to stick to his philosophy above the noise and I think he has the players bought in as well. But it will be shit to be a Spurs fan if the doom melts can manage to keep it about the negative narratives in every single fucking conversation

What's the matter with you, she's doing sexy poses.

They fixed it by buying players like Allison and Van dijk, like at the same time people will point to the board if we're still having issues up front, that's normal.

We can only fix our set piece issue on the training pitch which is on the coach hence why people will ask questions of him, the narrative only goes away once we stop conceding from them.

We missed Kanes defensive more than his goals last season. Hugely underrated part of his game, same thing happened when Carrick went. Not his primary skillset but massively important nonetheless

Not sure “we can only fix our set piece issue on the training pitch”.

Actually I think recruitment does much more to fix it. In most of our lineups last season Romero was the only player we had who was aggressive attacking defensive set pieces. Richy helped. Solanke will REALLY help as will having taller players like Gray, Bergvall and maybe even Spence out there.

We fixated on the teams putting a player on Vicario to obstruct him and that can be fixed on the training ground. I actually think we already solved that mostly last season so it should be less of an issue. It happened v Everton, City (FA Cup) and the Gooners twice. Several of those were fouls but whatever. we started putting a player there to protect Vicario and it was better.

The 2 vs Bayern were nothing like any set piece goals we conceded last season but that not even coming into the minds of the fans already fixated on it after pre season.

Have a look at our 3rd goal concede against Bayern again, that is not personal that's 100% coaching

It was a lapse in concentration from what I remember. But the point I’m making is that it was a completely different goal to the ones we had issues with last season. There wasn’t a player obstructing the GK. but the narrative just sees set piece goal.

Now maybe we do have an issue with back post goals from set pieces this season and that needs to be fixed but it’s not the same unaddressed issue from last year.

Yeah that's it, it was the same thing against Chelsea last season, we let players in at our back post unmarked, this is clearly coaching not personal.

For example Dragusin was in the wall, he's our tallest and most physical player - why is he not in the centre to head the ball away, just stupid basic shit like that which shouldn't be happening really.
