Ex-Spurs Player Érik Lamela

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

As I said in my original post, I'm not necessarily arguing with you guys, I just don't think pointing out what Lamela did in one season at Roma against what Lennon's done in his time at Spurs is a fair comparison. I'll certainly admit to some bias, as I felt pretty strongly in the summer that Lamela was not a prudent purchase. Regardless, he bears the shirt, and so I hope he comes around. If he's fit, I'd love to see him start this weekend. A perfect opportunity for him if you ask me. Weaker team and at home.

But, we, paid, THIRTY, MILLION!!!!
He's either gotta come good, or our club's hierarchy are one wasteful bunch of twats!

We do ourselves no favours. As soon as the price tag was mentioned he was almost destined to be a flop. We need patience with this one to make it come good or he'll forever be labelled as a Rasiak, Bentley or Rebrov (among our fans anyway).

I agree but I dont think this boy is in the same class as Rasiak and Rebrov and I do believe he will be a great player. He hasn't shown it yet and I cant prove anything but he will. He just needs time.

Lamella ... I have faith he will come good, fuck what the stats say ... mind you my predictions are usually way off so I have probably just ended his career prospects :-/

This is a player who scored 15 last year in seria A, who has played for argentina, who we payed 30 million for and is only 21!

So do you think his performances thus far for us has earned him the nod over our other wide players as a first team regular?

I like all our players, some more than others and I'm not saying Lamela is shit but what I am saying is he isn't mentally or physically capable of handling this league yet and it seems like he's acknowledged that through the quotes from his dad.

Bottom line is we've already been through the faze of buying young talent, developing them and continue to do so.

Lamela should have been a first team starter but he hasn't proved or displayed enough to justify a first team position for us in the league and you don't spend £30mill on potential.

Bale, bought for £5mill sold for £85mill, Carrick, Huddlestone, Lennon, Rose, Walker, Naughton etc these are all examples of players purchased from other clubs, developed into first team regular, premier league players. That's what we did, when we brought Arneson in and what we had Alex Inglethorpe for between 2006-2012.

We are now trying to reap the rewards of that by using the fruits of this labour ie Townsend, Rose, Bentelab, Kane, Walker, Naughton into the first team fused with top top talent for us to compete at the top table which needs resources, big wages and the rest. Lamela's supposed to be one of the world class talent players yet our youth players seem more prepared for this league.

:adelol:
... I'll just say one thing ....

In sum: A player who doesn't rely on crossing has more or less the same accuracy as someone who specifically is a crosser type player.

So yeah, I think you immensely exaggerated your statement.
And this is just one aspect where I disagree with you.

Sorry but you don't really have a point because as a wide player Lennon is far superior to Lamela, in fact if you ask all 20 of the Premier League managers which WIDE PLAYER they would prefer Lennon or Lamela, all of them would pick Lennon.

Again, I'm not saying Lamela is crap but he's not even in the same league as a wide player like Lennon or any other of our wide players. It's laughable really that you fanboys who obviously know fuck all about the real game of football, think you have more insight than coaches and managers who see the players on a daily basis and are best qualified to make decisions.

Why do you think Lamela hasn't started or played ahead of Lennon, Townsend, Chadli, Erikson or even Sigurdsonn under both AVB & Sherwood? All those players have played in wide positions for us this season but besides the City game which we lost 6-nill Lamela hasn't been a preferred starter in the league because he isn't ready physically or mentally for this league.

You people are seriously delusional!!

I think in a 4-4-2 Lennon prob needs to start simply because he tracks back better than lamela. My ideal formation lineup going forward is 4-3-3
Lloris
Walker vlad verts rose
Paulinho sandro dembele
Lamela ade eriksen

Sorry again Oz but who gives a fuck what you're preferred lineup is, we play the way any given manager who is in charge at Spurs wants to play and under two managers Lamela hasn't been picked over Lennon, Townsend, Chadli, Sigurdson or Erikson in the wide positions, doesn't it tell u something about Lamela right now?

You mean the same AVB that blocked out Ade and allowed BAE to go out on loan when we had no decent cover for left back. Let's not pretend that coaches always know what's best.

And what do you think makes someone ready? Sitting on the bench or getting some solid playing time?

You and AVB know best.

I actually like Lennon, great servant to the club and proves a reasonable level of consistency but like I said in my previous post. Yes lennon can run, Yes lennon can back tract, Yes Lennon can stretch defences but can he actually take the football in any shape or form transfer it to the striker in a goal scoring position or score himself?. This is the bread and butter of any attacking midfield player , Lamela's decision making is intelligent, given the right run of games instead of just throwing him off the deep end at manchester city he will show why is worth £30m. Glass ceiling under lennon, a good deal of potential with Lamela.

@ cahspur cahspur
Dnt sell yourself short mate, Timmy's only there because levy couldn't find anyone better...
I feel 4-4-2 is more to get soldado in the team as opposed to ade..
4-3-3 is the way forward...

Isn't 443 just 442 with say eriksen moving into the inside left position when attacking. Lots of 443 setups play with 2 out and out strikers. You could argued that 442...4331...433 are all the same at some point in the game.

The key thing is playing to your strengths, something avb was too stubborn to do.

I'm not an AVB fan, never was but on matters of football they know a shit load more than the likes of u or I.

He's been given opportunities and has come up short everytime in the EPL and what makes them ready is the mental fortitude to fight for their spot in the first team, a shit load of PED's like we gave Bale and certainly not crying home to Daddy about wanting to fuck off back to Italy!

You and AVB know best.

Go aks yo Momma, I love you wrinkle pussy but I can't be your loverrrrrrr!

I think he will play this weekend...
...and I think he will score!
(or at least set one up for Adefoeldado.... covering all bases!)

Just sayin'

Sure, but the point is that it doesn't suddenly mean that they always make the right decisions. Let's face it, nobody looked really strong in AVB's system, and for a player that needed to adapt to the game, was playing with a whole team of players who had hardly had any experience together, and may have been playing in a slightly unfamiliar role, the added factor of not enough playing time has no doubt had a factor.

Again, everyone was coming up short most of the time early on. For the most part, we put in really pretty poor team performances for all the reasons I listed above. The fact is that we ran Bale on the field even when everyone thought he was a jinx. He continued to get playing time and it allowed him the time to find his place and adapt to the team. Lamela has never had that continued opportunity to adapt and shine.
