Not gonna lie, I don't know what most of those acronyms mean.
I don't know what is good or bad tbh.
Or even if any of them matter.

I won't pretend to understand the vagaries of football stats, but despite looking good, doesn't such a small number next to our name suggest that our opposition aren't even attempting to pass it around and they are looking to transition the ball into our penalty area with one or two passes.

No, the small number is good. It’s the amount of passes teams allow the opponent before disrupting them with a pressure/tackle/interception.

Sure, I understand it’s good.

But, for example, if we’re just up against a team that is attempting to play long ball football against us (for example, Joelinton’s pass through for Newcastle’s goal) and to split us with a pass from inside their own half, won’t that reflect in our stats as opposition aren’t even knocking it around for us to close them down?

Appreciate that shows our work off the ball has certainly improved, but surely some of that has to be about facing a low block and murder ball.

Improved is a massive understatement. Two years ago we were the worst team in the league for these kind of actions, work off the ball et cetera now with the best.

An efficient high press is basically designed to combat the deep block because it’s designed to win the ball back in areas high up before teams get chance to sit back into their double bank shape -

What we are seeing is most of the stuff we are doing we’re doing with and without the ball up to the final third we are doing really effectively, when we get into the final third, we’ve got a bunch of lobotomised clown shoes.

If if you watch the game back around the 25th 26 minute we do this really well twice in quick succession and both times the ball gets fed to kulusevski, having pressed it off them as they’re trying to play out from the back, both times he just pisses the ball away. Likewise, the Solanke chance which came from the press when he neither shoots nor plays in Johnson who’s clean through and we are seeing this game after game after game. It must be absolutely killing Ange.

Also, teams like Arse don’t want to play like they did Sunday for 90mins, part of that is us forcing them to adapt their game plan or ingame plan.

I have a few questions for the tactical astute fellas out there about Postecoglou system.

Who’s creating space in this system and who is attacking that space? What should happen when these patterns don’t work?

Who is going to create our chances and who is going to be at the end of it? What happens when these designated players are not on form?

Who is creating width and how are we taking advantage of that?

I’m all for attacking football but at times we have to be able to sit deep and soak up pressure. Look at Brennan’s goal on the counter last night. Given the right context I wouldn’t mind giving this a go when needed. Still attacking yet a little more pragmatic. We’re to predictable otherwise.
