Competition Carabao Cup

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

This started back in the days of Wenger and Fergie: both head-coaches not bothering much about this competition by fielding their reserves and only fielding a stronger team if the went all the way to the semis.
Man Utd were even exempted from this cup due a Club world cup.
And later on Mourinho and Klopp also followed up on this "trend".
I have heard players say, "I want to play in the EPL so I joined this club" but I have never heard a player say "I want to join this EPL club because it won the Carabao cup so I can play in the Europa League."
Solanke said he joined us because he wanted to play in Europe. As we are in the Europa league it must be assumed he wanted to play in the Europa league. That assumes he is not rested like Kane used to be.

Still today, when they are not winning titles and trophies all over none of the "big" clubs care much about the Carabo cup.
They care less about it than the league. Great. We're a million miles off winning the league.

Even if the club doesn't care (which I doubt), I as a fan am bored shitless at pretending Top 4 is a trophy. It's not a trophy. Top 4 gets you to qualify for another trophy, which we are also a million miles away from winning.

Look at the last 30 years and tell me who we are as a club to look down on this cup? Why are we above it? If we want to get a winners mentality into us we need to, you know, start winning.

Really not getting the defeatist attitude here, they fucking hate playing us, we’ve done them so many times. We’ve done them home and away, CL and Prem, Nuno, Poch, Conte, Jose, with or without Kane.

It took them 5 years to score at our gaff let alone win a game.

Out of all of the games against the other members of the top 6 - this is the one I always fancy us in. I was bricking playing them last season at home due to our record - fortunately Son fucked that chance up.

If he goes B team and we go A team we will win, I’m sure of it, it’s not just personnel but mentality as well - are those players going to fight or are they going to look like our mob against Coventry.

Remember their B team scraped past Watford 2-1 at home. Would take this draw over having to play Liverpool/Chelsea - home or away or play Woolwich/United/Newcastle away

I often see this claim, but I don't buy into it.

Far better to avoid City (and any other strong Premiership side) and hope someone else gets lucky against them. I'm all for us having the easiest possible path through any knock-out competition.

ps Matt - I know you said 'probably'.

You can hope that.
But they won it in 18, 19, 20 and 21.
They oddly lost to Southampton in the 1/4 final last season, having knocked Chelsea and Liverpool out (both teams were in the final the year before)
Lost on penalties to Spam the year before.

I think they are taking it less seriously now. But that doesn't mean we should make wholesale changes. Getting City out of the way is 1 step closer to winning a cup.

We beat them with coaches who have a clue how to defend.
1 draw and 2 losses in the current circus style defending regime.

I'm not convinced that Carabo Caraboa Carabao are getting value for their sponsorship money out of this competition. I don't think I've ever been aware of their products in any shop, let alone bought a Cariboah, many people have no idea who they are and even fewer can spell their bloody stupid name.

Anybody ever had one?

I'd just prefer it if someone else did the job of beating City and we got drawn against Sheffield Weds.

Just nu-RedBull innit?

I won't drink that shite.

Yep that’s why the last 11 winners have been

City x 6
United x2
Liverpool x2
Chelsea x1

It’s absolute bollox they don’t care about it - Woolwich maybe, but not the rest. I remember Jose talking about winning the league cup in feb to give his then Chelsea side the confidence to go on and win the league. He took Chelsea, United and us to finals.

Fergie went strong in 2009 when United beat us in the final.

Wenger and Woolwich are the only ones who have consistently belittled this trophy, Pep, Klopp, Fergie - all took it seriously.

2 narrow losses - 1 of which was a game that very few at the club wanted to win/draw - lots of CL text needs to be applied.

We drew at their place with half our team missing.

They beat us in the FA cup with an 88th minute goal that wouldn’t have stood this season.

we’ve every chance

The Woolwich route - yet they’ve not won it since 1993 and have a history of embarrassing losses in the final - Swindon, Luton and Birmingham - never seen a pub empty so quickly as when Obafemi Martins capitalised on their fuck up at the back, I remember dancing joyfully with the only Birmingham fan in the pub (and probably world)

We'd need to avoid City, Liverpool, Woolwich, Chelsea, maybe even other London teams at the moment.
The odds of getting all the way to the final without playing anyone good or capable of turning us over is slim.
Unless you're Gareth Southgates England.

wonder if there's enough space to fully open that cupboard door
