    Get involved!

Player Brennan Johnson

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

A lot of embarrassed fools. This guy could get 20+ goal involvements this season and there’ll still be people upset he doesn’t throw hips.
Didn't he get near that goal involvement last season?

It doesn't stop him being a player not good enough to play for a team that wants to challenge at the top but I guess for some, who were very quiet in August, goals against Coventry, Brentford and Qarabag gives them the balls to start calling people fools.

I didn't realise being able to control the ball reliably under pressure meant you needed to "throw hips", being able to play progressive passes under pressure, "throw hips" as well eh mon pote?

He got 15 goal involvements last season

So an increase of 33% to 20 goal involvements will be good news

Only 13 players in the league got 20 goal involvements last year. That would make him one of the most productive forwards in the division.

And I’ve been Johnson’s biggest defender on here for months.

You pick out the teams to say it’s “only” these teams and yet each time it was the winning goal when we were under pressure.

Scoring in 3 games in a row? Pretty darn impressive.

Now please-please-please, make it 4 on Sunday :)

Hope that with run of goals he gets more confident and starts converting bigger share of chances. Like the potential 2nd goal for Brendford that he did not take.

I am starting to believe it is all in his head. Cause he mostly play kind of fearfully and looks unsure. Sometimes does not commit enough on defensive side. But I remember from tail end of last season - one game he started quite aggressively. Shoving opposition players, giving them shoulder and so on. So like with finishing - I like to believe it is in him! Just has to show it on consistent basis!

I remember he had a good game against Kyle Walker last season. At one stage he went round him using speed/agility, so he's clearly got the tools, for whatever reason he just struggled for consistency.

I do think he's at his best playing into space so I'm not sure how we set up will suit him in most games, but I'd like to be proven wrong.

I could see him growing into a second striker type player. Running off of a more "proper" 9 and poaching goals. Like Son off of Kane.

But yeah, his future probably isn't as a out and out winger.

"goals against Coventry, Brentford and Qarabag" like we don't have a history of losing against teams of that level, like he didn't win us the game vs Coventry.

He saved our arse a few times last season and, after a wonky start, is looking lively right now. 23 years old and likely not near his peak. I don't get the hate. I do get that some - and I'd probably include myself amongst them - would prefer him as an impact sub in big games at this stage in his development; another winger to challenge him would be greatly appreciated. But I like him. The boy's acceleration off the block is magnificent.

He’s just scored 3 goals from high turnovers because he’s perfectly suited to regular sprints in the press but still having a burst left when we knick it and then an instinctive finish.

That is looking more and more like our bread and butter, system goal.

He’s also great at one or two touch low crosses off either foot and having the pace and discipline to get on the end of low crosses.

The kid gets himself in situations to score or assist every game. People saying he doesn’t suit the system likely mean he doesn’t suit what THEY want the system to be.

I wonder if the people saying « it was only Coventry Brentford and Qarabag » will move the goalposts some more.

It’s only Old Trafford - come back when it’s a hat trick at the étihad!
