Match Brighton & Hove Albion vs Tottenham Hotspur - Sunday 6th October - 16:30KO

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I thought Ange had turned a corner and moved away from his rigid pursuit of his intended system as we have seen some small examples of it.

However, today is just further proof for me that on the days this system works it is glorious but more often than not, it costs us massively.

I don't see how this will ever lead to sustained success tbh, you cannot play like this every single game and expect to be anything more than a midtable side in a league like the PL unless you are scoring 3+ goals a game, which is unrealistic.

Ange either needs to adapt and understand when to be more defensive and pragmatic or it will just end in disaster.

We don’t need to be “more defensive” to stop those Brighton goals. We need to defend better. First goal was a total fuckup from Udogie and the other two were collectively feeble despite everyone being in a position to defend.

Again the main concern with Ange succeeding here shown up today.

Pre match he said to the reporter, oh we will just play our game regardless. When we needed to show some variety to our play. Some pragmatism and steeliness. Sorry Ange but in the prem, you attack we attack just doesn’t cut it. Seriously concerning that he won’t learn or change. This game is the perfect example of what some of us say with Ange.

Naive. Pretty at times, but in the PL it won’t bring success.

Anyone remember Bielsa at Leeds?

Thing is, we suck at defending. Shutting up shop only works if you can shut up shop. I see nothing about our defensive game that makes me think being more pragmatic would make much difference.

Why is it so hard to find a manager that can coach attack and defence?
On an individual level the issue that I see is that both Romero and Udogie are too reactive. They stand still and watch the ball for periods of the game and that's when we more often than not concede.

Romero is the one that's meant to keep the other defenders on their toes. But there's no one that's doing the same for him.
