Watkins > Kane

It's truly time to bench Harry for the good of the team.
So, having been one of the early folks re-considering HK's perma-place in Spurs' XI...and then being more than happy for him to leave in 2019, I get this sentiment. Neither team is setup to service an oldschool, English target man (folks, save the "HK does more than that" nonsense) and would be better served with a more modern striker...just look at Solanke's positive effects on us.

but I 'm having a hard time reconciling this very recent sentiment...

I don't care if Kane has one leg and he's wearing an eye patch. He starts every game without fail as long as he can stand upright.
...with this previous one from the other day. I expect this level of vacillation with Deuterz Deuterz but had higher hopes with you...

That was said knowing that Watkins is never going to get a start if Kane is available. But obviously I would take Kane over any false 9. Guardiola can do something like that because he's good enough to implement it, and club managers train with these players daily. You don't have that luxury at International level, and the likes of Carsley obviously aren't Guardiola. I've been saying for a long while than Kane and Watkins could play together considering each others strengths and weaknesses.

Germany is not so sure but Netherlands and Croatia for sure.

Looking at the top 20, he’d get I to more than half of those teams.

He's better than Fülkrug, albeit he has a good record for them. And he's too different to Havertz to compare. But it it wasn't for Harry Kane, Watkins would have plenty of caps.

But bringing in his goalscoring record for England is lunacy. He's only started a handful of games and has never started two games in succession.

Going back to the game, I thought it was a pretty ordinary performance against a very limited side only looking to spoil.

Palmer was average at best but he had Walker behind him who offers absolutely nothing in a game like this. Bellingham ball hogged too much again albeit still looked a threat at times.

Thought Grealish and Gomes were the standouts, despite not being anything special.
