Manager Ange Postecoglou

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

There is a trend emerging. We have won 4 of our 5 home league games, by margins of 4-1 twice, 4-0 and 3-1. Just that smash and grab Woolwich 0-1 defeat.

Away we won at Old Trafford but have picked up a miserable 1 point from 12 from trips to Leicester, Newcastle, Brighton and Crystal Palace. Those four sides are currently 8. 10, 15 and 17.

Bottom line, we are really good at home and our dreadful away form has to improve.

Think i've enjoyed the last 2 games more than any other consecutive games under Ange. City was a great game, end to end and we were great on the break and today despite a poor first half we just overun them. The best thing is the way we wrestled back control of both games and this against decent sides.

I'm loving this rollercoaster Ange has us on. We are the most volatile team in the league at the moment, you literally can't predict any of our games.

I really wanted us to be successful under Mourinho and Conte, but a small part of me always felt dirty. Ex Chelsea managers, who were coming in to show Spurs how its done. We were sell outs, but so desperate to win that we rallied it and just became a nasty team. We were aiming to win ugly. Its a bit like what Woolwich are doing now with the dark arts, all their fans are desperate to win so approve of it for now, but deep down they feel dirty. They know they are selling out.

Ange is a breath of fresh air. If we can win something playing like this then its literally a dream come true!

Got to say, I’ve been very supportive of Ange because I could see consistent methodology at work, I could see weaknesses improving and the underlying metrics support that strongly.

Last week I was just plain impressed with Palace, who according to their own fans, played their best game of the season. They were outstandingly good, and That can happen.

But this week was a really hot mess imo, that was more like the dark days of last season than anything we’ve seen this season. There was very little of the ethos or tactics that Ange has preached relentlessly, that we have mostly seen this season, and this despite Villa being fucking insipid.

I thought the team selection was inviting the kind of creatively void performance we got first half. In the first 45 minutes we’d not had a single shot on target, had an XG of 0.17, and not even dominated the ball like we usually do (53%). That’s also got to be the fewest passes we’ve completed in a game, and not just second half. In other words not the usual Ange performance markers. That’s also possibly the highest XG we’ve conceded all season. Again, against an abjectly insipid Villa.

I hope today is an outlier, I enjoyed the goals and result, but I didn’t see a coherent methodology. I saw some slightly whacky idea mud balls being flung at the wall and luckily some stuck. We allowed more chances than usual and got away with it. We’ve played much more coherently and not got a result.

I can just about understand people moaning at half time , ( I didn’t cos I was there and you need to support the team , however if I am honest if I was at home I may well have moaned a bit on here) , but we won 4-1 and there still seems people who want to moan . It’s like spending the night with Marilyn Monroe and Sophia Loren at their most beautiful and complaining that their handbags clashed.
If spanking a decent team and rival 4-1 gives no feeling of euphoria I don’t know what will from a footballing perspective.

Being down on the team after beating City and Villa in a week, scoring 6 in the process just seems weird.

Some people just enjoy misery I guess.

We are not an elite team right now , we never will be under ENIC so I am going to enjoy what 80-85% of the time is enjoyable football to watch under Ange
Am I easily pleased probably , but I remember being very unhappy with our last 3 managers style of football , I will ride the wave

Oh for fuck sake.

Mate, after a 4-1 win, you are coming across as a self parody.

I have decided to take my.coaching badges at the age of 63 . I have no interest in being a coach but I enjoyed us beating Villa 4-1 . Clearly I do not have enough football knowledge enjoying the win is not what being a fan is about , I have been missing a trick for nearly 60 years . When Hoddle, Bale , Ginola , Greaves , Gazza etc etc scored the most sublime goal I should have been looking to say , “ the actual chance of them scoring that wonder goal was pretty slim if you analyse the probability”

Never to late to learn

A really good result today and puts us in with a real shout of being in a very healthy spot in the table come the International break.

I really do think Postecoglu knows what he’s doing. I think we are improving in many aspects and there is potential for us to become a really good side with him in charge.

As ever though, I think the ball is well and truly in our owners court. Are they going to provide the quality of player to turn us from a good side into a top side?

Even this season, the ‘what ifs’ are always going to be in the back of the mind.
What if we had signed Neto instead of Odobert?
What if we had signed a first choice midfielder instead of Archie Gray?

When you look at how the likes of Woolwich and City are stuttering, these what if shouts will become even louder.

As is though, I think we’re in pretty safe hands with him, and I don’t think we will finish any lower than the quality of player we have would suggest we should be finishing.

Our stats are all title contending more or less. We cleaned up our defence to those levels too. All in the second season.

We lack consistency game to game. That's what separated the good from the great. There's another level yet, hopefully. Early days in this project.

We won’t be close to 3rd this season. *If* we win tomorrow (big if given Villa are pretty good, people seem to be counting this chicken before it hatches) then we should follow up by beating Ipswich but then it’s the Etihad trip.

I think we probably do win tomorrow (our home record is good at the moment) but it won’t change my overall view of where we are at. We are volatile and struggle to chain wins together in this league.

So two points of 4th, 3 off third and every other team above us bar Liverpool and Forest dropping points this weekend.

My point stands. We ain't the only volatile team in the league and we are in a race with all of them to be the most consistent
