Ex-Spurs Player Hugo Lloris

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I wonder if Hugo will mention the fact that Poch cried after the Semi Final, picked Kane and then sulked after the final and went home, because if we're gonna do this blame thing then let's be fair.

Hugo is addressing exactly what Conte was famously ranting about. The man in charge has a small club, loser mentality. A chairman who is truly driven to win would never hand out those fucking watches before the final has actually been played. He’s basically admitting that just being in a final is enough to satisfy him. The actual outcome of the match isn’t important.

That’s why we’ve lost 8 FA Cup semis in a row. The top man isn’t focused on winning so of course that filters down through the whole club. Losing is normalised.
They're playing it all on TalkSport now...

They fucking LOVE all this!

Imagine this constantly being thrown at Woolwich, the Friday before a game...?

I'm genuinely confused as to the massive problem here...

In the build up to ANY FINAL the fans are encouraged to buy 'CUP FINAL MERCH'
...this is celebrating the achievement of reaching the final....

I'm pretty sure all the Liverpool fans wearing "CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FINAL, MADRID 2019" Pre match wouldn't have had a problem with it...?

Why are TalkSport making SUCH a thing about it?
It probably wasn't even Levy's decision WHAT to write on the back of the watch!

It was probably the CEO of Rolex's choice (or CASIO, knowing us!)

That is the first sentence. If you read it you can notice that it is bullshit journalistic and newspaper build up. This journalist has bullshitted that stuff out about "breakfast" and "relief" to hype up the story. Hugo Lloris probably always chats up happily when he's around his kids having a breakfast. But this journalist is trying to make as big of a deal out of this story as he can so he starts it off like that with some sort of huge drama.

That's how newspaper articles and reports are written on pretty much all things. Not just about football but about everything. It is actually very, very rare to encounter a dramatic build up or hype-up that is actually justified.

The watches came from a sponsor apparently so the engraving was most likely by them as well.

And also came out with the "....If we win it; I'll leave cos it can't be topped" gem on the eve of the game.

(Similarly, Eriksen also expressed that he was 'dreaming' of "new adventures" at the time.)

TBF though, if you read the whole article for the most part he does bring a mix of positive and negative to the table; if still a little selective on what receives emphasis.... But maybe that's media spin as much as it is his personal slant on things.

What I don't really understand though is the whole "Poch doesn't get the credit he deserved" sentiment... He's broadly claimed to be our best manager of the modern era with many to this day (*) still expressing a desire for him to return; whilst the team he managed is continually reference as a benchmark for those that followed.

(* Well, perhaps until the Chelsea move.)

.......Should we revere Poch to the degree that we do Nicholson and Burkinshaw? .........A man that couldn't get us over the line in 3 finals and 2 league challeges despite (arguably) being the best club in the country for a 2 year spell? .........How is that supposed to mesh with the winning psyche that Hugo bemoans us not having?

[ For clarity; this a question mark towards Lloris, not an 'assassination' of Poch. ]

That is why I avoid reading such reports. Because there is always so much shit and bullshit to go through in order to find just couple of pieces of relevant and pertinent information. And in this case those would just be direct quotations of Hugo Lloris. Just that. All else is bullshit. And very often what is reported are not the exact words of the player. Journalists always "massage" that stuff too.

Lloris appears to have written this stuff into some sort of his upcoming book. And I don't think he should be faulted for including that sort of stuff at all. It was something that was obviously talk of the dressing room and it is clearly the case there were big problems within it and with how the club was, and potentially still is, run. I don't think Hugo Lloris has bad or ill intent towards the club. At best he thinks it's good for the club to speak openly about things that transpired. At worst he just talks openly about any and all sorts of things. Many players are such. And there is nothing necessarily wrong with that. One should, in fact, expect from players to be able to speak and not to be prohibited and not to be ordered to hide things from the supporters. Only bad clubs and bad organizations are run in such a fasion.

Yes, but I’m saying if the shirts said the same, surely he’d have as much of a public problem with that?

And whilst I get the theory here, a professional having something like this effect him seems a bit weird to me. Hopefully, our present players have more mental strength.
This has got nothing to do with mental strength and taking that cheap shot at Hugo, a club legend and born leader who's won the World Cup, that's lame.

What Levy did was outrageous but just shows once more that he & his gang don't care about winning. If you can't see that and prefer to take a dump on Hugo instead, be my guest.

Had I been in that dressing room, friggin Daniel would've had that watch round his waist. Any serious player would tell you likewise.

And it ain't just the watch thing, that's just an example Hugo is using to make his overall point. Same as Conte done, same as I hope many other Spurs players & coaches gonna dare do.

If smart, Lloris would have written out what he wanted to say on his Twitter or Instagram accounts. Or wherever else.

But he probably didn't want to say or write anything so that he was lured or set up into doing this interview so that he would not be able to avoid addressing certain topics that the journalist was armed with.

The topics which were the purpose of the interview.

He wasn't "lured" into anything..........

They're excerpts from his book, you dolt.

Might just be me, but I think Hugo comes across as an absolute fanny in this book extract. Especially the Conte part. We built the club around fragile players and won what you'd expect with such characters. Conte might be a nutter but he is also a serial winner of league titles.
Exactly. Mediocrity is rewarded at Spurs.

But so much easier to take a pop at Hugo, Conte & co for speaking the damn truth.

France won the world cup with Hugo shanking balls and conceding from a massive blunder in the final which he was very fortunate to get away with.

Great keeper on his day. Always had a big game error in him. Could never be 100% comfortable and Vicario currently is no different.

Rolex, Jaeger Le Coultre or Bvlgari?

Hugo fucked up in that final, yes. But he was still a massive part of the success France had during his tenure. Probably their best keeper ever.

All goalies have a mistake in them, even your Neuers, ter Stegens, Edersons...or Buffon, van der Sar. Strikers miss easy chances every weekend, defenders have 10s of brainfarts a season. But booboos from keeps are more noticeable cause of their direct impact on the scoreline, so they get big stick.

Hugo won us more points & games than the other way round. Had he been at a serious club, with serious owners and proper players, he'd have been a winning Spurs captain...and not just once.

Unless the engraving was:

You're all losers, you're not gonna win shit!
Love, Dan!

Let's be honest. It might just as well have been.

Why are you and others trying to dress another damning indictment of the loser mentality exhibited by Levy / ENIC. From another one of our former players.

It is what it is I'm afraid mate. Time to call a spade a spade, get your head out of the sand, smell the coffee, and wake up to reality.
