So I take it you agree and believe the calibre of signings 10 years ago was better than it is now?

Climb out of JTs bum. I know he is one of the only people who gives you positive ratings on here but you don't have to defend everything he says - its creepy.
Ok so let’s agree 10 years ago it was not very good , ENIC had been in charge for 15 years by then . It might be better now or it might not depending on personal opinion , the bar is extremely low either way .

EDIT : They had been owning clubs for quite a few years prior to Spurs , so in effect had in excess of 20 years experience of running a football team prior to the 10 years ago scenario you mention.

There really is no defence on the football side of things in their stewardship of Spurs IMHO

Meh, I kinda disagree - they haven't pushed us as hard and as far as I wish they did/had but they still put us in a better position than we were in when they took over and for sure, the expectation of the fanbase has changed in that time because of the work they have done.

Either way, I'm not here to defend them, and i don't think pointing out things that are factually incorrect is defending anything other than the facts,

But better than when they took over is another very low bar , otherwise we are in defending Sugar territory. I think every Spurs fan thinks he was terrible , so beating that is very meh .

Why do people act like the club was founded in 1991. Like our history is Alan Sugar and Daniel Levy. Both of them look shit compare to prior decades of the clubs history.

There’s been a theme of really strange behaviour from the ENIC Out mob for years now. So many things that are actual poor decisions or outright fuckups that they would have a very good case if they pointed those out. However, they choose to make shit up instead.

Does nothing but make them look deceitful or just downright simple. Very weird behaviour.

10 years ago we bought

Fazio
Stambouli
Vorm
DeAndre Yedlin
Deir
Davies
Alli

The most expensive of the lot was 8m for Fazio.
Taking one window in isolation is deliberately distorting the point. (You’re a smart guy, I’ve no doubt you know this)

I mean two can play at that game and say in 2018/19 we signed no one, so in the 14/15 window you refer to above, we obviously signed higher calibre players than 4/5 years later?

The salient point is despite our shiny new stadium and higher revenue, we have not altered the quality of player we target to match.

People talk about the money we spend. Every single PL club is spending more money now that they were 10 years ago. There’s more money in the game in general, average players are far more expensive.

People talk about the money we have spent recently in particular , but when you actually crunch the numbers, spending nearly 200 million(!) on Solanke, Johnson and Richarlison seriously distorts the numbers… I mean can you really say with a straight face they are players of a higher quality than we were signing 10 plus years ago under ENIC?

Probably as that’s all they know from their own lifetime of following Spurs? I remember Scholar, but was only a kid back then.

No real point in harking back ten years ago, as so much has changed, let alone going back to the sixties.

I can’t be arsed to research it but let’s say they have been owning or part owning football clubs for about 30 years , I think it’s 6 in total .
I have read on here some time ago they have never won anything at their previous clubs, ( no idea if 100% correct but I doubt it’s miles out)
So if that is correct 30 years 6 clubs and 1 Carabao Cup , are we really still supposed to think they are the answer ?

EDIT: Happy to hold my hands up if someone rattles of a load of trophies at previous clubs

But then why care about Sugar. Surely the last 5 years or 10 years is the reference point.
I don’t. It’s weird. Was so long ago, it’s not worth throwing into any argument.

As I said, even going back ten years is futile to make any kind of point. We won trophies under Scholar! So what? We are spending more money than Sugar did! So what?

The last few years and the next few years are the important stuff.

Well if the argument made , as it was , is its better than when they took over who has brought Sugar into it .

But we didn't just beat that - we have sustained our most consecutive top 10 league finishes ever under them - the previous was 10 back in the 50's and since then we managed 7 consecutive seasons at the start of the 80's but that included at least 2 10th place finishes. We are currently on a stretch of 15.

We also had a stretch of 13 consecutive seasons playing in Europe under them - we have had nowhere near that in our entire history.

Yes, winning trophies has been illusive under them and they have failed us all in that respect - no one can deny that, but the next people who come in will have a high bar in terms of where fans expect us to regularly finish above in the league and how often we should be playing in Europe than at any other time in our history.

Im pretty sure that I read that AEK Athens are not fans

It doesn’t really matter , we’ll just plod along , replacing aging players with potential & mostly bargains & winning bugger all sitting somewhere between 4th and 8th because “ winning is hard”

I'd say the signings we have targeted the last 3-4 seasons have been of a consistently higher calibre than those we were targeting 10 years ago.

There is enough shit to talk about - no idea why people have to make more things up to make a point

Now we are not using winning trophies or top 4 or 6 as a metric but top 10 . For some that is clearly enough , if that is what makes you at least content then fine . I can accept they have moved things on , it is also pretty clear imho they are now reversing those gains . I remain hopeful with Ange but he will have to do it despite ENIC not because of them , I believe Poch did the same .

Edit: Time for me to drop this for a while , I’m boring myself now so apologies to those who have had to read it

He fucked up at Spurs, called Vertonghen out as not being able to sort his feet out and didn’t pick him . Then got the tin tack from Villa , was even worse at Swindon .He then became a pundit and managed to call a penalty instead of a free kick because he mixed up which team was attacking which goal.

He seemed to dislike foreign players with the exception of Adebayor IMHO , it was like having Farage as manager , I think he was a total plank . Clearly trying to shift the blame in my view.

Talk about people trying to rewrite history with this guy

Decent leader as a Captain if I am trying to be fair
Isn't he the pundit who called Van de Ven "wooden" on the turn after his first game for us?
