Rules Referees & Impartiality: Can this be delivered on a consistent basis?

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Maybe people can share their thoughts but I honestly think the European games are “reffed” so much better than EPL.. I feel like there is less acting and the refs don’t seem to fall for as much shit as they do in the league? Or is it that there is more knockout vibes to these comps so players aren’t conning as much? I dunno, I feel European refs are waaaay better
It does differ from country to country. And an important difference is how each country trains/educates their referees.

Let's compare England and Germany for example. England's refereeing course is 5 90 minute online lessons and 11 hours total of physical lessons. That evens out to around 20 ish hours of training max before you start reffing.

Germany's version has that as the minimum time of required training/lessons. But it can go up to 50 hours. And they also require you to take part in further training every year. England may also require that but it is not listed on their website what I can see.

So I do think that it is as simple as some countries taking it more seriously than others.

Lots of dodgy European refs, remember that Turkish prick from the Euros?

I do feel for Coote, just goes to show that in his line of work you can't trust anybody.

Klopp was often a right cunt towards officials, shame people aren't talking about that and respect to refs in general.

To be honest, I'd have to be on coke to do that job.
I qualified when I was 17 reffed only reffed a couple of games under 14 one at Enfield playing field back when all the pitches were filled all weekend and one on Hackney marshes. That was my refing career done. Dogs abuse mainly from grown parents. Very intimidating out there on your own.

I'm sad to read this but no surprise at all. I still find it absolutely incredible we have so many refs/assistants turning up every midweek and weekend, all over the country, just for adults games alone, then so many levels of junior football.

Obviously I've seen some bad decisions in my time, and let my opinions known from the stands but now I do hold back, especially in the lower leagues and non-leagues.

At every level we just expect officials to be there without really thinking but without them there is no game. Those doing it for a few quid without the assitance of VAR. Thankless job, credit to them all.

It’s a Thankless task for these refs isn’t it.Its
Not like they can say anything back, imagine that gurning prick calling you every name under the sun shouting and screaming in your face, you’d want to chin the fucker for it,but they just take it it’s totally wrong.

Yeah, they're only human so mistakes will be made and everyone needs to grow up about it.

It's only football, some people need to stop treating a win or loss as if it's a matter of life or death.

You see in a lot of other sports they get controversial decisions and its Not good obviously but it’s accepted and they move on.With football these days it’s as if it’s the end of the world.

I don’t think the media help either, they will go on about it for days on end, magnifying every bit castigating the poor fucker who’s officiated that game.

So he doesn’t like Klopp. I doubt many of them do when you see him screaming at assistant refs.
He’s been stitched up by the other dipstick who sounds drunk. Coote looks like he’s had something, eyes staring out.
Cannot wait for the away fans chant at Anfield. We love you Cooty, we do.
When it came out I said he was clearly on something and not just booze...at least the ol white pony but could be a level above. That new video the FA's received proves the guy has substance issues. That vibe he had with that lad and looks like there were other young men in the room...that felt downright off.

Timing is well weird, though. Why release it so many years later?

Liverpool loving this, perfect fit for their narrative as the most unjustly persecuted club in the history of pro sports. Cunts. The FA & PL will throw the book at him cause it's them but they'd do dick if he'd said that about Palace, Brentford...

A lot of great comments in this thread. Refs do an impossible job. Fans get to see replays 10 times and slowed down and we still disagree on the right call. Referees need to get most decisions right seeing it once at full speed with 50,000 fans, two managers, 22 players and all of social media ready to jump down their throat if they get it wrong.

It’s part of the job but let’s not pretend it’s easy or that there is always a clear cut correct decision. Whatever you do someone’s going to call you a cunt.

I do think that there should be a structured way for managers to challenge refereeing decisions during a game. As long as it is regulated.

Like suggested earlier. Something like each team's coach/manager and captain get one challenge each per game. No more. And maybe make it so you can challenge during extra time in either half to prevent using it as time wasting.

Long as it is a VaR challenge I don’t have an issue.

There seems to be a system like that in the works at Fifa that has been/is about to be trialled at the u17 women's world cup.

Coaches get two challenges per game that sends the ref to the video screen to review a decision.

If it also comes with the referee reading out the new decision on a microphone I could be content with something like that. Basketball and hockey have similar systems that work well enough.

The one thing that they can do I guess is to send the manager to the stands if they don't stop. Spanish and Italian refs are seemingly far more willing to send a manager packing based on what I have seen.

It wouldn't remove the problem completely. But maybe curb some of the worst behaviour.

Maybe he was being blackmailed and didn't agree to it.
Yeah course it's to do with money. Them lads he had a bender with could well have planned it all from the off...get him here, get him doped up (obviously he was already on drugs before), get him talking on film, get him to pay up for the rest of his life...easy gig ain't it. Or they sold that video to someone who did the blackmailing. Conte at some point stopped obeying and bam, the footage found its way to the Sun & other rats. And I bet there's plenty more where that came from.

I don't really have sympathy for him. Obviously we don't know what goes on in people's lives and he's free to take drugs and do whatever shit he wanna, and blackmailing is a cunts' game, but if you're stupid enough to get caught on cam pulling them stunts, then don't go cry your eyes out your life is being turned upside down, your career fucked and all. He brought that on himself.

To be honest, now I just wanna see him take some names with him on the way down, starting with that thundercunt Howard Webb. I'd love to hear him say what really goes on behind closed doors with the PL and PGMOL, including taking it easy on Liverpool, so that shuts them dippers up for good. Would be insane if he too had some material on them.

It’s like arteta constantly on the line during a game, just book him,no wonder he constantly does it our refs are way to lenient.
It would definitely make certain players/managers think twice about doing it again.

Doubt it's a blackmailing thing. Looks like him and a mate talking shite to send in a What's App group, cos the follow-up video is him addressing the viewers that the first one doesn't see the light of day or something.
Maybe one of the lads in the group chat released it after a fallout.
